In a congregation of 30 - 60 (depending on who you count) we were lucky to get 6 - 12 at a study session.
Still need to discuss to a certain extent to live it - we discuss all other aspects of our lives as we live them, yet people don't want to discuss faith. This is consistent with what I have seen in a few different congregations.
I have heard the argument from some that they don't want to talk about their faith, they want to live it out. I can respect this point of view but I still see both aspects of faith as very important.
I have found that a lot of what passes for 'Bible Study' has very little in the way of 'study' going on. Often there's a 'study book' or leader who served as something like 'the Shell Answer Man' (anyone else care to admit to being old enough to remember this?) It seems to always become a feel-good, confirm-my-opinion fest.As I was told once, why sit around discussing what we believe when we all believe the same thing. When I pointed out that I didn't believe exactly the same thing as them, they shut down.
Agreed. There is no need to make this into an "either/ or" situation.Still need to discuss to a certain extent to live it - we discuss all other aspects of our lives as we live them, yet people don't want to discuss faith.
Church study groups (bible study and other types) might make a good topic for a thread in Church Life.
Wow, your tenure in LAST is impressive, BethAnne.
