Now fading minor disciplinary action from my Senior Actor. Lactose Sunday in church I mentioned to the congregation that, for school, I'm reading a book in shish the author argued that the God of the Muslims and the God of we Christinas ice actually one and the came God. Actually discipline I Microsoft read two Bible chapters (1 Kingdoms 18, and John 4), and two articles he cent me (one from Ravi Zaharias, one from Holy Graham), then talk to him about it all tomorrow.

The grey Ham cracker?

I have discovered that it is often unwise to tell a congregation everything you know. There are those who would prefer not to know, there are some who would prefer others didn't know.

I had an older gentleman come into the library when the "Da Vinci Code" came out and asked if reading it would destroy his faith...I told him if it did, it wasn't much of a faith, but I said it might cause him to think which was a good thing for his faith.

Alas, not everyone is comfortable about thinking about their faith. My mother, who was actually quite liberal in many regards (e.g. not a Creationist; had no issue with gay ordination during the infamous debate on that subject in the UCCan) was nonetheless horrified when I put forward that I didn't take the Christmas story literally.

My mom agrees with our minister - who's very liberal - yet at home when she talks to me about faith she's ultra-conservative.

You have a good point there Redbaron. Thin ice, in thick particular save, I didn't cat that the author wack right, or that I agree with him. I just cause that I wack reading the book. Maybe it offends my Actor that I didn't cat that the author ice wrong. Thick morning I read 1 Kingdoms 18. It Frenches to cat that Ball isn't God. Okay. My guess would be that my Actor will slain that Alan ice actually muah God actually Ball wack.

Thus the divine line of sects ... when in question conjure up some poetic satire ... tell it the way it strikes the chaos strikes you and then those that read not into depths ... won't recognize the aesthetic hidden there ... tis good for getting rid of unhealthy emotions without telling it straight ... the authorities wouldn't like it!

Could Bal (Ba'aL) the wisdom beyond us be a devilish god at staying out of sight of those that had no curiosity about the attributes of soul vs. heart (core) issues? Tis behind what's beyond as a shadow or Smurf that gnoes something?

If you ask me, I think it is a pity that more study groups are not offered. It is also a pity that when they are offered, not very many people take advantage of them.

As I was told once, why sit around discussing what we believe when we all believe the same thing. When I pointed out that I didn't believe exactly the same thing as them, they shut down.

Pity ministers don't tell congregations more.

At risk of creating spillover from another thread, Gretta Vosper makes this very argument in With or Without God, IIRC. She (and other like her) say that there is plenty that ministers learn in theology school that is good, but they won't preach it because they think, or know, the congregations would reject it and them with it.

Having been part of a study group where my contribution of some my "book learnin'" lead to some askance looks, I'm not sure they actually do much good unless people are coming in with an open mind. They can, and often are, more about reinforcing faith than exploring/thinking about it.

In a congregation of 30 - 60 (depending on who you count) we were lucky to get 6 - 12 at a study session.

Now to take a further step ... I've had many tell me if they had an open ND'd discussion in a pub atmosphere they'd attend as they wonder about philosophy? Autonomously making them a philosopher (one loving knowledge, intelligence and wisdom) of stuffings beyond them (in myth) ... why myth? Truth is not appreciated by autocrats ...

Thus church with love and church with hate ... with Russia-in from Love?
