If they do work for me, I probably should have had them back when I was in school as my hands were always cold - air conditioning only seems to work in winter.

All of my fingerless gloves have the mitten cover. Great for quickly moving my hair without making it super staticy - often after putting on a seatbelt, but keeping my hands warm. I wouldn't want a fingerless pair, I have hoodies that accomplish the same thing with being warmer.

Ah yes - the "hand panties" at the end of sleeves of some garments - with a thumb hole? Made me laugh when I first heard that descriptor! I have no idea if its common, or something just one person decreed!!

haha never heard them called that!

I've thought of knitting some to use over my leather gloves when walking the dog in the winter.

I am using my secret Santa gift of stitch markers today. They are great. Thanks @ChemGal

I like those little stitch markers - looks like they open? I have some plastic ones that are little triangular rings which are great, but occasionally one has gotten knitted into something & I have to cut it to remove it! Then I have one less. Often I just use a loop of diff coloured yarn - which is no loss if I have to snip!!

I was totally lost as to why some opened and some did not. I figured the ones that could open would serve the purposes of ones that don't as well. When I finally made the purchase it was explained something about knitting vs. crocheting. I don't really remember, sounds like either works for knitting though.

These stitch markers do open. They're made of silicone or something so are soft. I have found them helpful for this lace project because I have to shift the markers a couple of times. I can open them and move them that way. I also made a mistake so when I was fixing It, I could put a marker in the spot without moving all the stitches.

I've had a bit of a couple of weeks, both workload (church, mainly) and energy wise, low. I cancelled my planned Family Day Dinner, and instead, on the spur of the moment, this morning, decided to go up to my sister's for a knitting afternoon with an early dinner (so that I could get home driving in the light; she's well out in the country, and we're having some days of rain, some temps near zero, etc.).

I came home with a pair of loaner 9" circulars and advice to take the 11" I'd accidentally bought back to the store, recommendations of a better local knitting resource for needles/accessories (Lens Mills still best place to get good prices on standard brands), a beautiful homemade beaded stitch marker (different on each side for marking "odd/even" rows), two "needle ends" to keep my stitches slipping off, made by her in fimo, a hand written reminder on how to distinguish between m1R and m1L. And dinner. Beloved sister.

Back to "Hand panties" nope never heard that either. We say "cuffs for hands" or "those things with thumb holes" or even handwarmer sleeves.

Ok I googled it. Hand panties -when naked covering your pubic area with your hand-often worn with arm bra-shielding your breasts with an arm-when naked. Not what your friend meant I think.

So I am having a problem, I know what I want to make but don’t know how. I have a design in my head of a long sleeve bolero/shrug with ribbed edging in green, the main part will be brown and I have a lacy leaf looking design I want to put down the middle of the back and up the sleeves. I just have no idea how to do this...
I though about you this evening when I stumbled across this shawl pattern ... not quite as you describe, but kinda sorta along that line... take a peek - Trailing Ivy

Thanks @Carolla! That’s very close to what I had in mind.

I haven’t done any knitting lately, haven’t been in the mood. Yesterday I pulled out some leftover sock yarn I was given a while ago but haven’t gotten any further than casting on.

Finished my "Olympic Shawl" - mostly knit while watching the 2018 winter games :-) This is a view of the back. It's a pattern from Ravelry called Passe-Partout - very simple to knit. I didn't want anything too fussy because of the colour & texture in the yarn. My son & his gf gifted me the yarn at Xmas - it's Noro Tenen - wool, silk & alpaca - so light and warm with lots of texture. I was a bit short (wanted to make sure I could cast off!) so I skipped a few last rows of garter stitch on the border, but that's fine.
