@Kimmio -- decided to book the Wickaninnish Inn. Also decided to just go there and settle in rather than trying to hit multiple spots such as time in Vancouver, time in Victoria, and so on.Wickaninnish Beach, Tofino BC. I think it's the nicest place in Canada that I've ever been to. It's definately my favourite scenery in BC. Very mystical scenery. There's a gorgeous resort there that I have never stayed at but had a friend who worked a summer there many many years ago, and I stayed in the staff accomodations (big tents with compartments behind the resort - she snuck me into hers) and went to the lounge once - and know a couple who went there for an anniversary spa weekend just a couple of years ago. It sounded fabulous but way out of reach for me. February might be pretty wet though. You never know.

Decided to drive. Told to get gas in Port Alberni, and plan to stop in Cathedral Groves. Also to ensure the rental has snow tires. The drive across the island to Tofino is an interesting one - a couple of hours across from Parksville to the west coast, winding road up the mountains then down the other side. Somehow I was surprised it wasn't flat the first time we drove it! Duh! Then you'll see the Tsunami Evacuation Route signs when you get to Tofino - LOL! Ucluelet has some nice waterside accommodations too (possibly slightly less expensive) - I imagine similar to Tofino for storm watching - it is a rocky coast there, rather than sandy beach. You'd need to ask.

Woohoo - Wickaninnish Inn - you go girl!! It will be amazing. Yes - just take it slowly on the drive - it will be great. My dtr is planning to go over to Ucluelet in a couple of weeks for her birthday - & so partner might go surfing! It's surely not quite the same as surfing Australia or Nicaragua ... but he'll dress warmly!
Where are you flying to? Nanaimo would be closest for the drive.
You're welcome. It's really gorgeous. I've only walked through (and looked at it from the beach), never stayed there - maybe one day. Enjoy your trip!@Kimmio -- decided to book the Wickaninnish Inn. Thank-you for your suggestion.
Pinga, do what you can to keep your feet dry. I found that, by far, my largest challenge on the west coast.
lolIt snowed in Vancouver the day we arrived. Lots of snow. Shutdown the airport type of snow (My sister was waiting to get to her gate for almost 2 hours from when she landed -- not fun). The thing is, it turned to slush everywhere, roads were full of guck.
i bought cute little boots to wear, perfect for slush, and easy for little walks. They have lots of great "wet wear" clothes here.
My feet were wet. Also bought socks at the store. Slipped into new boots and socks, and toes felt wonderful!
