When we popped into the William Watson Lodge they implied that we would be able to stay there even if we weren't Albertans. Need to do more checking if we get serious about heading that way.
 
Do check Kay. On the website you have linked to there are 2 propirity groups
1. those Abertans with severe disabilities
2. Those Albertans with less severe disabilities and
3. Albertans over 65.
Now each can bring a certian number of family/friends/caregivers with them.

It could be they are open to walk in customers if they have room.
It is a lovely space and I have stayed there as an OT student.
 
There are some sandy spots by Uclulet, too. Parksville, Rathtrevor Beach, is there is also really nice. Also, and I haven't been for years, but a friend moved to Nanaimo and it looks (from pics) like it's becoming a nice tourist spot, too.

Bowen Island, half an hour ferry ride from North Vancouver, is ideal for knitters and book readers! It's a pretty hippy dippy artsy community. There's even a (liberal) Christian retreat house there, sliding scale/ donations for stay. Beautiful view. It has lots of cozy rooms to relax in, a fireplace, and a little library. It's called Rivendale. I went, and a visiting massage therapist was there - she was a cross between a new age mystic healer and masseuse - very interesting (surprisingly not cheesy and she was really friendly and interesting) and really relaxing.

I meant hippy dippy in a good way. :)
 
That orb tree house looks cool. I've seen photos before. I might be able to get up there but I don't know how the heck I'd get down. Maybe hold my breath and swing from a rope, and hope for the best?! :ROFLMAO:

I imagine the bathroom is a portapotty on the ground. Nothing you want to head to in the middle of the night in February....

For the last couple of years, my sister & I have traveled to somewhere warm in February to celebrate our birthday's. We went to Mexico, Cancun last year, and celebrated by dinner at Cirque du Soleil. the year before we were silly in Florida, riding mopeds, and enjoying some of our kids. We also spent time together travelling to the Dominican Republic and Switzerland with her work.

We like to fly relatively short distance for our holidays, getting as much time together as possible. Her distance is similair to mine.

We are thinking of doing a relaxing spa week, with new explorations this year in Canada.

She had suggested Banff, but, I have just looked at Tofino storm watching.

Yes, i know, i am in a very spoiled position to have funds; and yes, we could just hang out at each other's houses and not spend money...and I get that travel is a luxury not afforded to all. I hope you will still help with the dreaming and thinking.

I am so aware that life can be short. That things can turn. Money is something that I consider a tool. and i am willing to spend it for myself, my sister (and possibly two close friends) to join us.

If ewe like gorgeous scenery and small towns (with world class bakery!) might I suggest The Beach House on Oyster Harbour - Guest suites for Rent in Ladysmith, British Columbia, Canada

Further in BC interior, have u ever been 2 Ainsworth Hotsprings. When I went there when I was a kid ewe had 2 walk up to a cave cut in the living rock (Hi Balin!). I'm guessing its much different now. Experience Historic Relaxation

If yer not afeared of the USA there is a very cool old Japanese bath turned hotel in Seattle. Around 100 per night. Communal bathrooms. A hotel cat. A very cluttered managerz office. Computer. Throw rugs everywhere over creaky wooden floors. Right downtown. HISTORIC PANAMA HOTEL TEA

A bit further south there is Manzanita, OR a wonderful tiny town with one street mainly and he best beachrs to walk down and down and down. Nice lik bakery coffee shop. Various little hotels. And if ewe r there at the right time you can c the sandcastles for kms and washed up lil purple jellyfish with sails.
There is also a beach near there where one can find agates inna rock. I think itz called agate beach.
Ewe could also go to the Mendalla err ape caves near Vancouver WA. These are relatively safe old lava tunnels. Never been there but it looks like fun. Wear hiking gear and warm clothing.

That should keep ya busy

We are talking February here....if you find a place that's still open with a nice fireplace and you enjoy looking out into a winter storm....
I would say 85% ( or more) interesting places and places to stay outside of Halifax are shut down during the winter.
Besides- the rest of NS is equally nice- but February would not be my first pick for travel.
