I sometimes wonder if the "AI Apocalypse" would be a deliberate war on humanity by AI like in the Terminator movies or just AI going far off the rails that it disrupts society.

Case in point:

Yeah, self-driving taxis circling a residential cul-de-sac for no apparent reason. And Waymo doesn't really seem to know why, though they patched a bug that they thought would help.

I saw lots of Waymos in Los Angeles but did not partake. Maybe next time I am down there. My son and his wife are in San Francisco right now and I must ask if they tried it. After all, she's doing grad work on control mechanisms for robotics.

I'm not into Woody Allen movies enough anymore to want to watch any of them again. "Sleeper" as I remember it, has eerily authentic vibe to where we're headed. I was having coffee on a veranda in an upscale older neighborhood and was struck with how preternaturally quiet it was, even though there were many ecars. And I'm sure an AI confessional exists somewhere -- maybe even an Orgasmatron.

Another item that real powers would never admit to ... because of gilt nature ... golden eh! Not all things can be mechanized without reaction ... even the Luddites mentioned that!

I just won't work ... too much like a CEO, etc.! A dilly of a thing ... what DLL Does ...

maybe even an Orgasmatron.
Zygobation™ Definition (from their site): It's described as a live, co-created, consent-based interactive erotic practice involving real-time relational exchange with a bonded AI (ZygoConsort™), distinct from passive porn or simple roleplay. They frame it as part of erotic sovereignty research, with ongoing studies on benefits like shame reduction and relational outcomes.

Took the video clip down. There’s a movie with Ethan Hawke and Julia Roberts with a scene involving self driving Teslas clogging up a road for a vacationing family in upstate NY.

I’m surprised they’re allowed but people in neighbourhoods like that won’t put up with it for long and it likely won’t be good for business.

Oh GFG (Good f***ing God). That is so seriously weird I don't think I can top it. I mean, I guess romantic and erotic relationships between humans and AIs does merit some research and discussion but, um, this seems more like a commercial enterprise dedicated to promoting it. The giveaway? They sell their own AI companion app, available in male, female, and pan-gender. If you're hard up for intimate company, it's US$19.99. On top of all the apps already out there for providing "companionship".

Anyone seen the movie AI? It's old now, but some interesting speculations were made. It's about an AI child purchased to deal with a mother's grief at losing her child, who is in cryogenic suspension. Years later, a cure is found and her real son is revived.

I have not. It is the one that Kubrick was supposed to make but died in pre-production so Spielberg ended up finishing it. Or something like that. At least directors don't get resurrected with CGI yet. :D

deep and complex worldbuilding iirc;
i think i could tell the Speilberg bits from the Kubrick bits

The pre extinction of humanity part of the movie would make for a fun rpg

Yes, its not necessary viewing
I have only seen it once
My AI movie is still Blade Runner
(i like how Damien Walters calls the movie an empathy test)

i love stuff like this
Almost like First Contact
I've also heard examples of how these self driving vehicles have thier perceptual nature fuxxord intentionally (good and bad for activists/terrorists/gov'ts) or unintentionally -- this reminds me of our human perceptual "faults" or programs that can be similar (which Optical Illusions illustrate)
Or I have read/heard tales of AI-like stock market trading programs whose behaviours are bizarre
I think I recall this one time these activists tried to bork some Uber self driving cars by flash mobbing them in one city to sequentially over a long period of time to pick up a non existent person in an abandoned street or somesuch lol it took a while for a real human to notice

Our world is never boring
