What Will Mother's Day Look Like For You This Year?

Mother’s Day has never been a big deal in my house. I will text my mom, maybe call, but my parents are opening the cottage so will be busy.

My bf’s mom, on the other hand, would be quite upset if she didn’t do anything. My bf’s sisters aren’t in a financial situation to do anything so we are doing more than usual and giving her a card and a hanging flower basket and going to their place and paying for a take out dinner.

My mother and both mothers-in-law are gone so I will done my uniform and medals and act as the genial host at the Mother's Day brunch at the Royal Canadian Legion this Sunday.

I bought two nice 'hanging' baskets of flowers from no frills today. $8 each, they had 4 plants in each; replanted, they are the foundation of my outside pots this year, along with the plain red and white geraniums I wintered from last year. Happy Mother's Day to Me!

I plan to enjoy the day, however it plays out.. Recognition from the kids isn't essential for that to happen. With co-operation from the weather we might go camping. Hubby has some necessary things to do before starting to check over the wee camper. I've started gathering up the things that need to go along. The first trip requires more prep than later ones - lots of items live in the camper all summer but are put elsewhere over the winter!

I don't even think they have their garden centres open here yet.

And it is here. Happy Mother's Day to the mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, and whatever other configurations of mother we have on here.

And to those mourning a mother or otherwise finding this day difficult, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Well, I had an unexpected joy this a.m. Despite the fact that she was operating on very little sleep, Erin got herself to church this morning in time for breakfast, pleasantly surprising me! Have not heard from my son, though, and thinking I'm not going to, so mixed emotions.

Thats lovely Bette, fingers crossed that you hear from your son but if not maybe the road trip together was the real Mothers Day for you two.

Thinking of mothers today. Even my own.

Ribs are on the smoker. Salmon and chicken will be prepped later. Having those single mom friends over tonight and thinking of what it's like to raise kids on your own, and not having full custody.

The wine, I expect, will flow.

My sister's mother-in-law (who is also very much like family to me) is home from the hospital, celebrating Mother's Day with her family with her favourite...an order of Chinese food. She has just been declared palliative, so a difficult but loving day for all.

Don't tell Steven as he doesn't like whiners ... maybe weiners!

And to make my cup run over, my son called this afternoon. Was a true delight to hear from him. He has recently acquired an 8-month-old puppy, German Shepherd cross, and they seem to be doing really well together. And we yacked about the metaphors in The Revelation as well...a true theRed family sorta convo.

This is so great to hear about, @BetteTheRed!

My own Mothers' Day involved time with oldest daughter and granddaughter yesterday. Today youngest daughter went to church with me and trounced me at Boggle in the afternoon. My cup also runneth over.

My mom's kitchen is quite colourful - I got her a wire whisk with pastel rainbow wires each coated different colours, and with a handle that looks like glass but is acrylic. I put it into a rummage sale vase bunched with green and white tissue, with the wisk poking out a bit in the middle so it looked like a big flower, with a rainbow centre. With a card.

My daughter and son in law came with two of the grandchildren...home made cards and flowers and the two boys called to wish me a happy mothers day. I am blessed.
