I will suggest that we don't elect our leaders either here or in the States to directly do any of this stuff (fight wars, run the economy). We elect our leaders to be the top dog, to coordinate and direct the work of the people who do know how to do this stuff. And that's where Trump falls down for me. He tries to be all things to all people and control very facet of the government instead of deferring to the experts and letting them do their jobs.
A good example is Chretien. He was no economist or business geek. He was a lawyer who had spearheaded constitutional negotiations and things like that during his first political career. So when he returned to politics and became PM, he didn't try to manage the economy himself, he appointed a capable finance minister in Paul Martin Jr. and then Martin and his team in Finance managed the economy with Chretien doing the work of selling and defending the plan. Chretien was the CEO, the guy in charge of overall direction but he didn't need to be a successful businessman or soldier because he appointed cabinet members and hired civil servants to be the experts.
And as far as being a draft dodger, Trump is hardly the first President to have ducked service in 'Nam. Clinton and Bush Jr. both found workarounds to being drafted rather than outright dodging (Clinton had educational deferments and then some other dancing around, Bush Jr. served stateside in the Air National Guard or something like that). To be honest, it's fairly common in the middle class and above, which is why so many of the casualties in Vietnam were poor or working class.
So I think this whole "Trump is terrible at stuff" is not the real heart of the problem. The real heart of the problem is that the guy is unstable and tries to make the world revolve around himself. And might have dementia to boot based on some recent performances.
It's really Dunning-Kruger on steroids, isn't it? The dumbest person in the room thinks he's the smartest person in the room, and he has all the power. So I think this whole "Trump is terrible at stuff" is not the real heart of the problem. Trump's style mainly resonates because of widespread low literacy ?Pretty much what you'd expect from a voter base that reads at a grade 5 level.
I really do try to stay balanced in my views,
Hasn't stopped him yet. His bar must be underground.Asked recently if there is any check on his power, billionaire President Trump -- by far the richest president in American history -- said, “Yeah, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me.”"
Directly they are to do the stuff of "Central Casting"I will suggest that we don't elect our leaders either here or in the States to directly do any of this stuff (fight wars, run the economy).
