What do you stand for?

To have heard from Douglas Murray discussing about the Canadian MAiD program is equivalent to finding out that the Western world is becoming more like a sci-fi dystopia, with Canada taking the lead in a rather alarming medical program that seems to be contrary to the spirit of the Hippocratic Oath.

In an impossible daydream - I want the world to go back in time 15 years and start over - at least that far back. The political landscape is s**t. Infertile ground for anything good unless there’s some kind of miracle.

I want disabled people to still exist and not live with ableism of any kind in 7 generations - that things are so equitable and accessible that society is no longer a disabling factor. I want advocating for our rights to be easy.

I stand for equality. For human rights. There’s no justice without it. There’s no autonomy without it. I accept that natural hierarchies exist in the animal kingdom but I also know that we were gifted brains that don’t need to socially construct them amongst the human population. The tendency to do so always leads to bad outcomes - like authoritarianism, or total lack of informed consent. Disabled people live under authoritarian expectations more than others because the need for help with daily living and resources gets confused with not having the right to autonomy in decisions about living our lives (beggars can’t be choosers sort of prejudice. Nobody wants to beg or be subjected to degrading conditions.)

I want some small portion of a future that doesn’t involve having to fight about this anymore - to not have to lose so much, and that to be the case for future people.

There is that saying:

"Every child counts!"

Only mortals eliminate what they believe is a minor bother and concern ... small things bring down empires ...

The quantum field is very fragile and delicate ...

She’s been discussed before. I’ve brought up articles years ago. That doctor is being sued - a new development, the first - over two cases of patients who clearly didn’t qualify. One was alleged to have been someone who had back pain and mental illness, who was out on a psychiatric day pass when she performed MAiD death to him. From a non partisan perspective yes that’s awful and frightening - she’s too “happy” with her job and her mindset should concern people - but your sources aren’t where I’m getting that info from. That clip is from an interview in a UK documentary made by disabled actor and activist Liz Carr. It’s called “Better Off Dead?” as the UK is debating legalizing MAiD - where we were 11 yrs ago. Before bill C14.

Because there are so many MAiD threads already maybe this should go into one of those for consistency. I guess it doesn’t matter too much though.

The argument from disabled anti-MAiD activists is harmed by far right sources trying to tie it to an anti-abortion agenda. Then the assumption from the opposite side becames solely about right to choose MAiD, in response - which can be callous and shortsighted at both ends. It’s not the same argument. This is about disabled peoples asserting their human rights with their voices, about living their lives on this Earth on an equal basis with others.

(I guess this is another MAiD thread we can start using, and discuss from a more political point of view. My last two comments in response to WhyCzar’s are relevant to that.)

So basically the religious right, and DwD, are battling each other - using “Pro-Life” vs “Pro-Choice” arguments tied to their views about abortion - and the voices of disabled people themselves and their representative organizations sounding the alarm are being ignored and denigrated from both ends - but that plight of ours is largely invisible to the broader public. And by not making things like the UN and the CRHC warnings a priority in guiding their ethics in how they do their jobs and where they concentrate their efforts to inform, the government and the media keep it that way.

In there somewhere between the two poles (uprights) is there an unseen medium?

That would be a strange thing indeed ... if one was too far off one way or the other, yet this happens when some are trying to enforce balance at the fulcrum.

What else can I say when the two poles are just dangerous essences to their counterpoint. Life is like that fragile and gentle and the fighters would bring the whole thing down. Ever see a forest clearing where two bucks struggle ... a two bit effect in the greater space!

What is a greater space? There is where the combatants would blow all of stuff that is deposited down here ... forthcoming? You can almost smell the friction and Reuben ... this culminated in Joseph and Benjamin around the fire ensuing so a story could be told of spontaneous creation from ... what else nothing!

Real portions are sectors that avoid nothing like the plague thus the stretch of inner space ... allowing bubbles, balloons and other devices of expansion.

Now in scientific theory it is believed that if you make something of it you make distinct and opposed twins that may not be tangible to the opposed ... like a spirit twin. If doing a kitchen jamb some soul appears as sad-you-see always those dissatisfied with stone law ... escape mechanism it is the cause itself of self production and destruction ... that is not well observed thus competing portions in quantum particles ... one reflects the other in the dance till they are done ... does it mean something ... probably and thus probability theory.

If you discover the answer you're gone because both side hate it ... the love of knowledge accrual sometimes voiced as philosophy. This in pious circle rejecting knowledge life stiffens to allow bones of story etc. The bones may get tuned ... stay attuned ... be rattled when you learn about the battle of life ... then we tend to back off to a kitchen in the wild woods ... shrine under the big dome? What a circus ... for aliens to attend ...

I've been told I'm from away ... he knows strange things and even processes as they go down ... tragic theme ... now with the other duo! Something is bound to come forth as a + and later negated as imperfect ... thus the go around and repetition ...

It is said that nothing is perfect but hard to maintain as it goes on ad continuum ... ultimate pragmatic? Sometimes elliptical and appear as ellipses ... three spots for triangulation? great story for the truth is never accepted by those intent on entitled enlighten meant ... ignition?

Imagine a Burning Man Festival ... always someone as stake ... just because of what's unknown ... mortals are a curiosity to aliens so they remain on the fringe ... Aye?

Is it difficult to see the center and the fringe concurrently? This may explain the physicist that denies quantum theory as nonsense ... a funny concern based around a Black Hole and theory about abstract process without loving intelligence of things over the rainbow ... and who goes first and the remains ...

Stories are necessary about tragedies consuming both halves ... life of the partisans? Few go there ... weird people in the abstract forest ... sacred garden describes and undefined solar thing ... Saul as throwing a pall 've fire? Personality falling from a heavenly carrier ... Mare? On the fringe of darkness red, or roan and fuzzy ... when familiar it rides off just over the blue ...

A spectre AH? Even a bit clouded ...

How do they give voice to this? The word just slipped out ... doubly snaky, because the toxin needed potion ... bitter-sweet love? Duos ... parallel to the Black Swan ... a dark streak ... like the Arabic Alef with multiple representations ... until the globe pulls together we're doiL'med ... doomed? Do not eliminate the Lem ... or you'll never have the heart to figure ... that we must return to nature ... to look over ourself ... implications? Indeterminate from most physical points as that "one" is beyond us ... part of the n-l of binary? In an entire different domain ... abstract?

Un figured without life experience ... immaterial, eliminated stuffy ... 2-sided! Probable satyr or other metaphor as it is complex ... yet donkeys despise coyotes ... if they don't stay on the right side of the wall ... Jackal? These have their place with Bearded Vultures ... Bone breakers ... something has to erupt ...

Does a rabi dhole need arches contributing supporting Eire? Otherwise cold castles in Ayre ... breathe ... great hallways ... some times Hall Alu Yahs ... down there!

The point was my sources are standing up for what you claim to stand up for and are not afraid to stand up for it on whatever platform is available. In other words they are not self censoring. My source gave full credit to Liz Carr in the clip that I posted. If you stand for something then accessing platforms that have millions more views seems like a logical strategy to get the word out.

I realize she credited Liz Carr. I’m not sure Liz Carr would appreciate her using it for part of an agenda she doesn’t support. It misrepresents the film. In the film she mentions she is not a religious prolifer. This issue is not about the religious pro-life agenda and the point I’m making is it was hijacked. And then the neoliberals who are the mainstream in Canada and most of voters mistakenly fight the disabled community over MAiD because they too have been programmed to see it as something they need to be for because the right is against. It needs to be separated from the abortion debate. If she has no other interest in disability issues herself other than hitching it to prolife antiabortion then she needs to not speak for disabled people without disabled people. We don’t want to be linked with the abortion debate from either side. It doesn’t help. It makes the mainstream which is the majority of Canada, turn their backs.

It needs to be in the mainstream media often, and from a human rights point of view.

This thread is another thread that you started to talk about how you stand up against MAID.
and from a human rights point of view.

from a point of view that wants to focus only on your point of view.

How about this advocate - does she meet your criteria?

I support religious hospitals and hospices moral objections at being forced to offer MAiD at their facilities, yes. They should be able to opt out.

But what you do not get is that Track 2 MAiD is a human rights problem and you need to listen to disabled peoples point of view - the people most affected. None of the many disability organizations in Canada representing our voices against Track 2 are hitched with the prolife/ antiabortion movement. It’s separate. And it’s not about “me”. You can say what you want but if you post those sources you discredit disabled people’s own concerns and work.

a human rights point of view.
And not all humans are disabled.

Human rights are now endowed by human institutions and associations, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights drafted in 1948. This calls into question the inherent nature of human rights. If they are given by human institutions then are these rights actually intrinsic?

From a human rights point of view:

Affording all human beings, universally, the right to life liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?
