Later he said, "if anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn and let one interpret." "But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church."

I wonder if these are wise words also for this site? If anyone speaks gobbly dee gook without an interpreter present, does it just become trolling and an annoyance?
 
I'll take phonetic riddles over anger fetishists and God's Intimidation Squad members any day. What Luce does has value and a level of intelligence not often found, and suspending him was a screw up.

Perhaps you would volunteer to interpret to those of us who do not understand, such as myself.

When I read responses in the religion forum and some others, I feel we are gathered in God's name many times, whether it is through belief or non belief. We discuss a spirituality, a non spirituality, other religions, our own, etc.....
I agree with Pinga, that sometimes wherever two or more are gathered........

I don't get all of them. I skip over a lot of his posts. But some I do get, and I find them clever and of value. Just don't ask Luce to tell you what Ohm's Law is.

George doesn't write in a way that I understand as English at all. I probably read more of Luce's posts than George's. I may understand a greater percentage of George's posts, but I find Luce's are far more clever and entertaining. unsafe posts scripture and her insisted interpretations of what it all means, in a format that looks like it came from a Nigerian email scammer. blackbelt writes like a below-average student in grade 6. AC33 aspires to be blackbelt.

What kind of standards do you want to enforce? Because if we're going to enforce a writing standard on Luce (who I think is the brightest of the bunch by far), and not anyone else, then this isn't the place I signed up to help create.

The last time people went after Luce, his account was suspended for 3 days. We lost Innana over it. And just like I said, nothing really changed. It was a pointless suspension. Luce is Luce. You are not going to change him. You have an ignore user function you could use, but you'd rather complain.

If what Luce does is ban worthy, then council should ban him. And if you do, then to me, you have to ban Jae for sure, because he really intends to disturb the community. And if it's communication standards you're enforcing, then I nominate George, unsafe, blackbelt and AC33. If you think my language is too much, or I make fun of people and religion and that's bad, then have me banned as well, because I simply write what I think I should write and I'm done with worrying about how my words will be taken.

But this thread is clearly about Jae, and it's true that he loves the attention. He is surely thrilled to pretend that it's about other people and how we need to "remain vigilant". Council has been talking about what to do about Jae from the earliest days of WC2. Somewhere, there is a thread that is a mile long by now. And yes, definitely one about me as well. In my latest warning from the moderator team, I was hilariously told that "We cannot allow users to be abusive, overly aggressive, threatening, or to "troll"." We've allowed Jae to troll us for years, and it causes infighting. Jae sucks the air out of every room he enters, and then he admires his handiwork while we all complain.

From experience, WC as a community does not have the collective self-control to ignore a master troll like Jae. Council probably won't do anything about Jae, and while I'm not convinced they should, I'd listen to arguments.

I strongly suggest that anyone who has been targeted by Jae, or offended by Jae's actions, just put him on "Ignore". On any of his posts, just click Jae's username and there will be a popup with more information and options. Click on "Ignore". You're done. I think you'll still see quotes from him and conversations around him, but that's a lot less Jae than you'd otherwise get. And like vaccination, if we get to 85% ignore rates we may reach herd immunity where he's not talked about or quoted at all.

Ditto for Luce. If you don't like his posts, just put him on ignore. It's that simple. Same for me. I'm not on the council, so you can now ignore me all you want.

Occasionally I find something witty in Luce's posts but I generally just ignore them. Most of the time I don't even open threads where he has made the last post.

If you enjoy deciphering Luce's posts go for it!
 
Just a point about the Ignore function. I have tried it but usually prefer to scroll over the posts which don't interest me. The Ignore button has its place, though, I can see it being helpful in some situations.

Xenforo has free or low cost addons to allow users to ignore certain threads or subforums. That may be of value to some people. I'd have to look further to see what is in the newer versions.

I don't usually. But I respect that this is his way of communicating and I don't like the idea of pulling the rug out from under him. And while I honestly understand him less than everyone else here, when I do "get it", I laugh out loud at his posts more often than just about everyone else.

It has some quirks and I am not seeing any sign of any improvements forthcoming. I am not using it at all anymore, though someone tested that resolve on the weekend.

It isn't stated in the "Code of Conduct" or in the "Who We Are" that this is a church.

It was Constantines' mother who built the first physical Christian churches so Christians could gather.....but did the church exist before the buildings? What defines a church?

I reject both your allegation that I target people, and your labelling of me as a "Master Troll."

This thread, as suggested by the OP made by @Pinga is for the general discussion of trolling.
