I have been curious from childhood. I have also been resistant to coercive authority; which I have seen coming for a long while. Trump has sought and occupied the centre of our collective imagination. Donald did not do so alone. While he distracted our attention, the prevailing principalities and powers set in motion the strategies of tyranny. As I said, in the public square, thirty years ago: “The police state is coming.” This will not seem a problem for the compliant. The resistant will suffer for their non-conformity. History makes this quite clear.

I agree. I wonder what's happening while we're distracted, on both sides of the border. I also agree his enablers need consequences. That may be the first place to start. I'd like to think his power would diminish with fewer enablers. Of course that may be naive thinking on my part.

I say such things fully aware that I may be in error. There is a part of me hoping history will prove me wrong.
 
Cant you just picture him in the white house. Ranting, Twitter less , lawyers trying to talk him down, him insisting it was a perfect speech. “People say it was perfect. “. People also say you are a malignant narcissist you idiot

at least it’s good to see the Republican leadership backing away. Too little too late Though. You try to tame a dragon , he is going to eat you.

See, that gives Trump some credibility he doesn't deserve. Dragons are cunning critters, wild and smart. I like dragons.

Donald is just a spoiled brat with too much money. He needed a smart woman to kick his butt and make him behave about 50 years ago, which didn't happen, because it wouldn't, would it? He doesn't have an interesting bone or pound of flesh on him. He can't eat anything or anybody. He just whines. It's been like four years with a four-year old. His cojones are as artificial as his latest wife's boobs.

Hmm. I don't think so. He's a man with no conscience so his bumble-f*** appearance is deceiving. He's is a dragon - cunning, and smart, and wild (feral) AND still a bumble-f*** disaster of a president because he just doesn't care. That's not giving him credibility. It's saying the Republicans were stupid to trust him. Anyone is not wise to trust him.

He's still there!!! He hasn't been kicked out the whole time - he evaded serious trouble numerous times and threw everyone who challenged him under the bus. He is smart. Just a terrible, exasperating, damaged human being, and he needs to leave.

See, I don't think he's smart at all.

He appears incapable of reading at above a grade 5 level, incapable of understanding any sort of nuanced argument. A zero level of self-awareness, which I think explains why he thinks "he does everything right". He's a POS for sure, but more puppet than master.

It's pathological. I don't think he's capable of self reflection and saying "Wow. Reflecting on that, I guess I was an a**hole and I really feel guilty about it." That will never happen. I think only thing to stop him being an a**hole is praise when he accidentally does right and damage control when he doesn't. He needs constant ego boosting or he gets restless.

Doesn't matter about how his reading level appears. He doesn't give a f*** about having nuanced arguments - because his loyal base whom he zeroed in on early, also doesn't give a f*** about nuanced arguments, and doesn't appear to read above grade 5 level - that doesn't mean he doesn't understand nuance. However he appears to appreciate nuance for how he can use it to con people. One can't be as cunning get into power (the POTUS) and stay in power and have adoring followers willing to start an insurrection for him - if he wasn't smart. He is absolutely smart - but he's a malignant narcissistic con man, not conventionally smart. He doesn't have empathy, he's lacking in emotional capacity, but he is smart.

On top of that he gave a veiled threat to Biden, "be care what you wish for" referring to the 25th amendment.
 
The centrists in both the Democratic and Republican parties failed too, by not being tougher on Trump - and either pretending everything was business as usual, or making excuses for him. Their wonkish status quo views allowed things to go way too far. Nancy Pelosi wasn't tough enough. They didn't put enough pressure on Republican law makers, ignored Barr's omissions and disrespect for Meuller's findings from the first impeachment. They just carried on as usual. There were plenty of indications for a long time - from Charlottesville to Qanon - that the far right was gaining influence and that it would come to this.
