Good news: President Trump is withdrawing troops from Syria and Afghanistan....

"Bring the troops home, Mister President. End the wars and reinvest in America. If you do these things, it’s likely you’ll be reelected in 2020. It pains me to write that, because I’m no fan of Trump’s mendacity and greed, among his many other faults, but I think it’s true."

I'm also chuckling at those Dems and Libs and Progressives and Conseratives and Imperialists like Chompsky not liking the withdrawl...

If the front men go down or pulled out ... should one cover the back parts?

The shadow prevails ... hope diminishes as a bunny in a house of ... ineffables?

Don't mention it ...

Good news: President Trump is withdrawing troops from Syria...

Good news unless you're a Kurd, since the American presence is what has kept the Turks, who are more interested in fighting Kurds than ISIS, out of it.

There are no unambiguously good decisions to be made about Syria any more, only less bad ones. The US, and the West in general, messed that file up just as badly as they did Iraq, leaving the door open for regional players like Iran and Turkey, along with radical groups like ISIS, to use the conflict for their own ends.

I hear that Russia and China will b taking over taking care of the Kurds?

Heartily Liver,
Inannawhimsey

I have my doubts about Russia given that Putin is pals with Assad. Don't know how China could do much given that they don't have a presence on the ground. They could sell the Kurds weapons, but without troops in the region, they can't really be a buffer the way the American troops have been. That said, I generally support China's policy of staying out of conflicts that don't directly involve them. Being a middle man in someone else's war rarely ends well. If the US would swear off foreign adventures, we might not have had this mess in the first place.

Veterans For Peace is pleased to hear that President Trump has ordered a total withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria, where they had no legal right to be in the first place. Whatever the reasoning, withdrawing U.S. troops is the right thing to do.

It is incorrect to characterize the U.S. military intervention in Syria as “fighting terrorism,” as much of the media is doing. Although the U.S. fought against the ISIL Caliphate (aka “ISIS”), it also armed and trained Islamist groups, including al-Qaeda aligned forces, who are seeking to destroy the secular, multi-religious Syrian state and establish a harsh fundamentalist order of their own.

Furthermore, the U.S. aerial bombardment of the city of Raqqa, Syria, similar to its bombardment of Mosul, Iraq, was itself terror in the extreme, causing the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians. These are huge war crimes.

A continued U.S. presence in Syria would only prolong a policy that has been disastrous for all the peoples of the region, who have already suffered way too much as a result of years of U.S. intervention and occupation on their soil. It would also be a disaster for the troops who are being asked to carry out this impossible burden.

In these moments when those in power advocate for remaining at war, Veterans For Peace will continue holding true to our mission and understanding that war is not the answer. We sincerely hope that the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria will be total, and will be soon. We hope this will also lead to the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, where the U.S. government is currently in talks with the Taliban and an end to U.S. involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen, which is causing the death by starvation of tens of thousands of innocent children.

Veterans For Peace knows that the U.S. is a nation addicted to war. At this time of uncertainty, it is critically important that we, as veterans, continue to be clear and concise that our nation must turn from war to diplomacy and peace. It is high time to unwind all these tragic, failed and unnecessary wars of aggression, domination and plunder. It is time to turn a page in history and to build a new world based on human rights, equality and mutual respect for all. We must build momentum toward real and lasting peace. Nothing less than the survival of human civilization is at stake.

Remember that arms business is absolutely the best business from a position of being in the absolute, greatest, competitive spot!

Then what does Lord Acton say about absolutes?

That could turn the mind on end in reciprocation ... a bicameral flip! And vapours don't rise when condensing through redaction to shorten the myth ... edited opinions?

Powers can do that ... and make Nous fall as it will ...

Of course some resign themselves to thinking in only the present and the mistake-enigma is limited to a point in time ...

Getting out of a war can sometimes be more problematic than getting into it.

Those were the days...

Always consequences...US get energy independence from relying on Saudi Arabia petrodollars etc...resulting in deadly fracking lol

Just some new thots:
Re Kurds: right now i think it is a big assumption and irrational to automatically think "Kurds now have no way" because:
1. All that has been stated now is the pullout. No plan, no what that means, etc
2. So pullout doesnt automatically mean kurds r gonna die!!! So sturm and drang esp by very intelligent people (like Chomsky) is...silly TDS interfering with rational thought?
Thos particular Kurds can potentially still b helped by US. Its early days.
Re: comparing Iraq with Syria...umm...is there really anything like Syria situation? I dunno...seems easy to compare to.that clusterBEEP Iraq.

Ps another reason I can think of all the hubub (besides TDS) is Syria is making US peeps LOTS of money? So fear of how dare 45 stop or slow down these rents? I dunno :3

Scrolling back through the years. Found this from 2014:

Because conspiracy theorists are easily found out as false does not mean all is well. Power seeks opportunity for the increase of power. This takes form in history as an ever narrowing locus of control. Pharaoh in Egypt. Augustus in Rome. Somebody in our time.

Just now there are several somebodies at work, deploying all available means to guarantee outcomes advantageous for the increase of power.

Masses are easily manipulated by drawing on a well researched pattern of command/reward conditioning. Social construction shapes consumers where citizens are needed. Advertising as ritual luring the unaware into conformity with ideologies of greed and avarice.

An increasing percentage of the population is in debt to the structures of money at levels beyond their means. To continue in the enjoyment of consumption these will of necessity compromise principle in the critical moment. Either that or step out of systemic security and into profound personal vulnerability.

The middle ground is disappearing. Soon it will be only the wealthy and the poor. There will be no well fed, clothed and sheltered middle population. These will be found as expendable as the poor, in the day when mathematics trumps compassion.

History itself has carried us to the precipice. Our collective momentary priorities and commitments have sown the seeds of destruction. That seed is now come to maturity and is set for harvest.

Said to frighten? Not at all. The exact opposite. Said to warn and exhort to preparation. As Radar O'Reilly would have it: "Incoming wounded."

George
