Turns out it’s not false and it’s a story about a young guy from BC who is a computer whiz who created psy-ops to harvest the profiles of thousands of users who took top5 trait personality tests on Facebook (hmm, who else mentions that type of quiz), and worked with a Russian professor - of psychology I believe - who was working out of Cambridge University to develop this app...once a person took the quiz, all of their friends profiles could be accessed unknowingly, without their permission. So, nearly everyone in the US was targeted with ads...including fake ads. The company was, by then, called Cambridge Analytica, funded by the Mercers and headed by Steve Bannon while he was campaign advisor to Trump.He developed the tool for Steve Bannon to “flood the zone with s**t” as he says. They also used the tactic on Brexit voters on behalf of the leave campaign. They were also approached by the Russians to gather American’s data. Look it up. It is a mind blowing story. And true. The guy who did this is now a remorseful whistleblower, and on an apology tour (seems quite likeable) because he was just a 24 yr old having an adventure at the time, making a big psy-op app. It was all about doing it because he could, he had the skills and the ideas and liked working with data...but now realizes he may have inadvertently killed democracy and wants to try to set things right. Oops.

Still one of my fav lenses to look at it all is
Alan Moore when he did research for one of the works he was going to do and he found out that there is no grand conspiracy

Which is both chilling and heartening to me.
In a similar way that each of us bears sole responsibility for ourselves and our thoughts and actions...both terrifying and liberating.

(And if one wants to, learn how they themselvez work and from there how people are manipulated, hiw words work, how media works, etc and don't automatically lash out at those who have tried to show how the game is played. Because showing people can b dangerous. Look what happened to Jesus et al)

Just don't play.

This guy put his scientific skills, and desire to see if he could - he saw the functional utility of his idea with no concern about the moral implications - he put building his project before the morals and ethics of the potential consequences of doing it. I forgive him - he seems like he may possibly realize now what he did.

But that is part of the reason why scientists need not only to have skills but ethical and compassionate minds. And non scientist need some rationality. But pure scientific reason will not save the world. Compassion and social justice are priorities.

I don't think, though, that far right has reason or compassion.

Face it ... if humans are capable of unconsciously creating life in blind passion ... and irresponsibly ending life in accidental impacts that were not well thought out ... are they capable of planned naivete?

Myself I just take the oppression of knowledge and wisdom just brutishly ignorant ... but we are expected to conform!

Thus such actions go on with unexpected consequences ...

It may even be better if you don;t think about it to much or it could darken your bode of emotion wherever it bides ... or a'bides if not! Tis comparable to theist and a' theist ... as opposite sides of the dark mire ... some may be buried in the digging for answers ... because of an unstable earth? It is said to wobble on axes ... axels or something simile ... close metaphors!
 
I suspect this all comes down to them thinking the Dems might try playing more of Bernie's card and trying to use that against them preemptively.

Yep. Because they are doing that. But Trump's approach to describing socialism - especially the American social democrats goals - is full of lies and half truths. And trying to sanitize Nationalism is another really f'd up thing. The day after we hear about him potentially ending transgender as a human category. He's stepping it up. He's getting scarier while still sounding clownish. It's a litmus test as to how far right his naive voters can be pushed.
