TRUMP - Some people think......... How do you feel?

Here's another perspective I read this morning. Yes, it's in the LA Times, but read on...

It's an op-Ed written by a psychiatrist, analyzing Trump's fitness as leader. To do this, she uses the US Army field manual, put out in 1967, that evaluates commanders' mental fitness (why is a potential Commander in Chief of the Highest Office of the west's most powerful country not evaluated by this test before becoming Commander in Chief in the first place?) As she mentions, empathy is on the list - which may be surprising considering war isn't a very empathetic exercise - however, a good leader would have to have empathy for their own "team" and Trump doesn't have that either. He'd gladly throw a team member under the bus to serve his personal interest.

Here's the list. Just by comparing Trump's behaviour to it, she's made a case that he has none of the traits of a good leader.

Is Trump mentally fit to be president? Let's consult the U.S. Army's field manual on leadership

Agreed, Drumpf is awful, in a Rob Ford, sort of car-crash can't not look at it, way. From a policy POV, Pence is much more dangerous, and probably, potentially, much more 'effective' at his awfulness, as he'd have the support of the GOP.

I was once told by a rich American, born in Canada and now departed ... refugee ... that there are no chimera's ... can you not imagine the state south of the line is not in a monstrous mass ... about to spill ...?

When will they ever learn? That is the time for recess as some famous man said ... Brutus is that you serving? Biblically it say when it appears to be enough ... your sol leaves and you don't learn any more from the crap going on in the depths of humanity as it progresses towards eternal inhumanity ...

And some alien lady said I don't get mad ... I get Eve 'n ... and the shades descend ...

It is a given ... in old glossy linguistics Adonis/aD-onus or Davidian humour as you get that sinking feeling at dusk ... when the day's thoughts recess into the old brain ... a sub con science hummer ... to some just a wall sconce in the ancient halls ...

Thus something goes down ...

Is Pence more dangerous or is that conjecture? It's possible but I'm not sure.

One is never sure who is advising Trump's decisions (consciously or not)? Banon, Pence, Ivanka, Jared, Reince Prebus, Jeff Sessions, Paul Ryan...Fox n' Friends?

Banon's apocalyptic ideas - and his previous acquaintance with Jeff Sessions - have been having big behind the scenes influence on Trump's decisions and worldview. (Anybody watch Banon's War, on CBC DocZone?), security council or not. Pence would probably kick out Banon, unless Banon has some terrible dirt on him - and (I'm only guessing) he probably doesn't have anything really scandalous. He's probably got quite a bit on Trump, though. So, Trump is stuck with him for now, while the Russia investigation is going on.... All conjecture on my part.

Pence is an evangelical nutcase. And he has to be more efficient at getting things through congress. Trump is an ignorant woman hater who isn't even interested in governing, just "winning". Whatever that means.

Which of them is more dangerous is a matter of perspective.

Is Pence more dangerous or is that conjecture?

His record in Indiana suggests that him as President would be very bad news for a number of constituencies (e.g. bay, trans, people of colour) and, as others have suggested, his relative sanity would mean he wouldn't have the struggles that Trump is getting his agenda passed through both houses. That latter piece is what really makes him dangerous. As long as Trump continues to bully and bray, he is putting off potential allies and making things harder for himself than he needs to. Pence taking a quieter, less confrontational route in his public image would probably grease a few wheels.

Trump is so irratic, I find that dangerous. With Pence maybe it would be clearer what they're getting, what and how to stand up to it if need be...through conventional political processes. Pence strikes me to be more like Stephen Harper. He's less terrifying to me than the loose orange cannon ball. Also, far less funny.

Why is it certainty is praised by a few biblical-like tomes ... while uncertainty theory is splattered among many books of observation so that we would have to gather a lot to present some empirical evidence for the fact we live in near perfect chaos?

Should this be read up, or down in a sort of abstract perspective on depth of dark press freedoms?

Then there is control theory depending on conferences and conventions that tend to whiteout or blackouts of certain virtues due to powerful choices made after the desires of the richer than most of I, or thou ... what's Wordsworth ? Tis only an icon ... seminal sign of more we don't understand well enough to consider ourselves the intelligent side of the horseradish world ... to the worm lodged there (in a horseradish)! Thus horse bitz ...

Pay no attention to the aspirations of the rich ... they will mislead you about desires versus intellect! They really believe they know best ... and poor underdogs will get to the guts of the enigma ... of what's just a head of the hore sis ass ...

But you can't say that either so ignore it ... is that close to the sub con science in perspective?

If one reads and questions much ... would one begin to disbelieve much of what absolutes we've been dictated to and about?

Tis biblical Eve 'n ... I Thessalonians 5:21 albeit buried in verbose collectives of the fixed nature of hard minds ... relating to Davidus and the Golem ... which at be an oversized heart on a pilgrimage ... like amongst the Lilliputians ... or a flowering American in a rush to have dialogue with Putin ... discourse?

Loose cannons are less likely to hit their intended target and more likely to suffer a self-inflicted wound. A targetted shot will sink you on the first shot. That's why Pence is, to my eye, more dangerous.

Always fun to stop by here and see if anybody is no longer in the grips of fake news.

No, it's your drug.
The President of the United States is tweeting about his epic rejection of a female TV host who he claims was bleeding from plastic surgery (when pics show otherwise, not that it makes a massive difference), and you think people who can't stand him are listening to fake news?

We're listening to Donald Trump. What is happening here is not normal. Trump doesn't care about anything or anyone other than Trump. He wants to undo everything Obama did. That's what he wants. Good or bad, he wants it gone. He would throw millions off health insurance, just to achieve repeal. It's horrifying what and who he seems willing to sacrifice to get his "wins".

At this point in his presidency, Obama was being criticized for liking dijon mustard.

The Russia thing we will have to wait for. There is so much smoke there.

This cult of personality coated in hyper nationalism is not healthy. It's ugly, it excuses the worst behaviour and intentions, and the people claiming "Fake News!" are the ones being played. You and others want to make people question their own values and sanity. If anyone else did what Donald Trump does, they would have been fired months ago. Trump supporters are gaslighting. They are denying anything Trump does is wrong and how dare anyone criticize him for it.

It won't work. Not over the long haul.

The problem is not Trump, but the system that allows someone like Trump to rise to power.

  • Remember this the next time you find yourselves mesmerized by the antics of the 2016 presidential candidates or drawn into a politicized debate over the machinations of Congress, the president or the judiciary: it’s all intended to distract you from the fact that you have no authority and no rights in the face of the shadow governments.

This is very wise and very true. However, how to design a system that would stop it is another whole issue. The British parliamentary system seems to be a bit more robust in that regard since it isolates the executive offices like PM and cabinet from direct voting by the people but carries some baggage of its own (like increasing the power of party elites precisely BECAUSE they are the ones ultimately filling those executive offices).

Well, as true as the rest of it could be - at the moment, I would say the problem is very definitely Trump. Because the rest of it is complex - while President Twitter, lying and reverse lying (which is it collusion or fake news, etc. everyday he says something and the next day he's just as likely to deny it, even if he said it on TV - gas lighting) beaking off everyday, is not that complex a behaviour - often it's childish - but it's creating complex problems on a day to day basis.

While it's a nice metaphor you made - loose cannons can inflict harm on those totally unprepared. His behaviour is unpredictable - even to him, it seems - and he can't be trusted to keep his word on anything. I think Pence would not necessarily have perfect aim all the time (see TED video w/ Malcolm Gladwell, that Luce posted, for another metaphor to think about) but it would be easier to see where he was aiming. It would be a rough 3 years or so for minority groups, with Pence - I don't think it'll be great - but they'll overcome. The Repubs would be done in the next election if he was too theocratic. Trump could start a world war, by accident, even! and I don't think Pence would.
