TRUMP - Some people think......... How do you feel?

My current prediction:

Trump stays his current course, then announces c. late 2019 that he's not going to seek a second term, probably talking about what a bunch of ungrateful wretches Americans are for not accepting his hard work to save the country. It's too late for the GOP to get a proper race going so they end up with some half-arsed candidate who loses to pretty much whomever the Dems bother to nominate, leading the GOP to whine about how unfair the system is when the problem is their own stupid President treating them with the same respect he treats everyone else.

It's hopeless to point out Trumps flaws anymore, time to focus on the Americans themselves and why the same way they didn't realize that attacking Iraq was unjustified until after the fact, it's the same kind of blindness some republicans have for "their leader". The question is why? Why do they prefer someone that blows smoke out his ass over someone that would be more competent? Time to stop using the excuse that it's better than Hilary and wise up and focus on what's not getting attention anymore.

Alles??????

Those connections or things in the genes that clip the ends? Thus they go at the Job and are just allied like a glass "I" ... clearly transparent .. until occluded by gases in the closeted section ... closed wardrobes? With collected stink we all weep ... thus the leakers ... they go ... allez ... stranger at the lake, loch or pool of mystery! Mystic gods are like that ... diverse and wordy ...

One needs to support the family and the bloody lines ... and thus it adds to continuum in the vacuous state of affairs ... things politicians do according to Lord Acton! It is virtue in polity ... noshite ...

Americans are steeped in a myth of what they are, and of their history , and of the role in the world. Patriotism, as in most countries. has been used as a tool by those who manipulate us.
I think we're watching a process of collapse. A very general one that includes the whole political and social structure of the U.S. I suspect, too, we can expect to see the EU baling out of NATO and U.S. connections. Canada will remain a puppet of the collapsing American empire - as will Britain.

Yes I believe we have just sent troops over to the Ukraine.

It could be the US is going through an adjustment too, which may save it from collapse or contribute to it.

Latvia, actually. You're only off by 1350km.

I'm sure Putin is now dissuaded from taking any action in the Baltic.:ROFLMAO:
Thanks, that's what happens when there is soooooo much going on in the news these days.....hard to keep track. I know, I thought the same thing about Putin probably laughing his head off. But honestly, I don't care if we're taken seriously as warriors, I'd rather the title of peace keeper for our nation.

Chrystia Freeland announced last week that we are going to be putting billions into our military - investing in more "hard power", because we can't rely solely on the U.S. to protect us. As I understand it, Canada is currently doing a shift a bit more away from the U.S. and toward other allies - after the G7 and Trump's Paris accord withdrawl. If it weren't for Trump hogging every political headline with something weird (which catches my attention more because if I get too serious I just get stressed - I "have to" find the humour in it) - a bigger deal would be made here about that shift. Because it's nearly impossible for us to alienate ourselves from the U.S. - we are inextricably linked by geography and trade and culture and families. It was announced the same day Trudeau and Obama had a dinner date in Montreal, by the way. That was a happier distraction.

Where will the billions be cut from?

I have an idea of where they might be looking for some of the budget...

Doctor-assisted suicide could save Canada up to $139 million each year, Alberta study suggests

This, belongs in another thread, but, there's potential correlation because of plans for increased military spending. Cost savings in healthcare (and where else in social welfare? Do we know?) are already reported.

Eugenics, supported by Western countries, in the late 30's, was about saving money too, and then Germany adopted it for their "policies" in WW2. Just a heads-up. I know you all think it's a paranoid thought - but really I worry - justifiably at this juncture in history - that history could repeat itself - just with a different configuration of players.

Even if I'm wrong, the money has to come from somewhere - and when is it ever not "cut from the bottom"? We need to not let that happen.

I still think there was something fishy about that law, the timing, the wording, and how vehemently it was promoted as a human rights issue.

I do not support budget cuts in health and social welfare, that hit the already vulnerable especially hard, to cover increased military spending. If that's where we're headed, I'm concerned.

This is larger than Harper's military budget projections that the Liberals rejected, and does not represent their election platform. I guess, unfortunately - that was then, this is now. Still - there is no word, to Canadians, about where the money will come from - just that it will be there. We should be asking.

Peacekeeping was a good idea when Pearson thought of it. Since then, it's been used to kiss up to the U.S. as when our peacekeepers went to Haiti to help overthrow the elected government.
The idea that we had to add to the collective defence of North America is absurd. Only one foreign nation has ever attacked the U.S., that was limited to Pearl Harbour. And the only nation to attack Canada since the battle of Quebec is the U.S. - twice.
The reason for the military buildup is to create huge and corrupt profits for the American defence industry.
As for Freeland saying Canadian needs a military to help preserve world order, that means preserving and extending the American empire. The U.S. has no business imposing world order - especially when world order means murdering huge numbers of people to make profits for U.S. business.
And where will the money come from? It could easily come from the tax havens where the wealthy keep their cash. But it won't. It will come from people who need it.
Meanwhile, much of Europe is looking seriously at getting out from under the American heel. The major exception is Britain which can pretend to be a world power only by slavishly following the U.S.
If holding military exercises is a good way to prevent aggression, how about we offer southern Canada to Russia for military exercises?
Or we could get Russia to send troops to Guatemala where the U.S. slaughtered 200,000 of the Maya people. The U.S. routinely sends warships into water claimed by China. Maybe we could send an icebreaker for exercises with the Chinese.

Plausible. I also would not be surprised if Trump just got fed up with the whole thing (especially if the Russia investigation gets too close to him) and resigned partway through his term. I could see this happening especially if the Democrats are able to take control of Congress in 2018. He's already said openly that being president was more work than he expected it to be, and while he can get his Cabinet to kiss up to him, it's harder to get Congress or the courts to do so. And I wonder if Ivanka's recent comment that Washington is a lot more vicious than she expected it to be isn't a sign that some of those closest to Trump are already getting fed up and disillusioned, and are perhaps even starting to prepare the way out? (Actually, I predicted he would resign partway through his term if he got elected.) And if he does resign, he won't admit that he's in over his head (either with the job or the investigation.) Instead, he'll go out attacking "the swamp" and how it's impossible to get anything done in Washington and they're all a bunch of "losers," etc.
