But the major powers blocked that from the start by giving themselves a veto. Like Russia under Stalin, the U.S. routinely ignores the UN. The UN does not, for example, approve of the war in Syria. We destroyed the UN, and we betrayed all that we said our peoples were fighting for in worl War 2.
In retrospect, I think Lester Pearson anticipated what was happening. He was a man with an extrordinary understanding of world affairs. That was why he tried to make our armed forces peacekeepers. But we have since largely abandoned that, and our armed forces are now extensions of U.S. armed forces, and designed to fight US wars.

But don't waste time telling that to Obama. I've been reliably informed that he's too dumb to understand even what's happening in his own office.
 
Wow. in one year, a democrat president didn't get money from the army and a republican did. So that proves that democrats never accept money from the military.
You've heard of Hillary's funding? And the Clinton foundation? Who do you think contributes to that. Good fairies on tippy-toe?
And haven't you noticed there has been no change whatever in American foreign policy and its wars even eight years AFTER Bush. (Of course, that's because nobody is telling poor Mr. Obama what's happening.)
Incidentally, Obama did NOT just get money from the Doj. And McCain did NOT just get it from the army. You've heard of the war industries?

Yes, I think I posted an article somewhere in this thread - NY Times no less - about Hillary being an exception to the military otherwise favouring Republican leaders.
 
The Clinton foundation I'm just catching up on. It looks like it has done both good and not so good work. They did accept foreign contributions, and grant meetings to people like Bono - who are working for good causes and the foundation helps such causes - and monarchs from Bahrain...???
 
I don't think Hillary is great I just think she is a safer choice than Trump. The fact that he's working with the global far right and fomenting rabid bigotry on the home front - and using mindless media like Brietbart and Fox to capture his base audience - scares the crap out of me.
 
Obama's not dumb. He got stonewalled deliberately by the racist element of the GOP and its supporters.

If he had used executive orders every time he had to stand up to that they would've still painted him to be the mastermind villain - a dictator - and why shouldn't he be because he's black and can't be trusted (not my opinion, but that was the opinion propagated that framed Obama no matter what - they set him up, the racists did, for that...and I don't doubt that a lot of money went to discrediting him and taking him down before he even set foot in office - it was the most evil thing to do to a president and it impacted how the country was run to the detriment of everyone).

a. don't trust any North American medium. That includes the NYT. It can be very selective in what it chooses to report.
b. I have never checked to see who gave Obama money. I do know that American elections are so expensive they cannot be won on Sunday School collections. Both parties HAVE to go to the big money - war industries, oil, mining... That has been true for a very long time. And much of the big money pays for both parties.
c. as for trusting media, think back.
The U.S. is holding very provocative war exercises in Eastern Europe. They say it's to prevent a Russian invasion of the region.
The news media carried a brief sentence on why the U.S. decided Russia was preparing an invasion. That sentence, which was not followed up by any reporting (or questions) said that Canadian intelligence had reported that Russia was preparing for war.

Well, of course it was. So is the U.S. preparing for war. So is much of the world. it's a normal function of any government. If we're going to send troops to every country that's preparing for war, we'll have them all over the world.
(There was no explanation of what preparing for war meant.)
Now, have you ever heard of an occasion in history when a major power - or even a minor one - launched a war on advice from Canadian inttelligence?
Isn't it odd that American intelligence with its drones and spacecraft didn't notice it?

Think hard. The U.S. wanted a provocative move against Russia. It also wanted some NATO powers involved as a demonstration of American imperial power. Britain would join, of course. it's been an American lapdog since 1945.
But Canada has been less enthusiastic. How to put pressure on Canada?

Announce that this Russian "aggression" was detected by Canadian intelligence. And Justin bit.

As for media backing for Trump, its negligible. The far-right - which owns the media - is heavily and blatantly for Clinton.

And racism is scarcely a monopoly for the Republicans. The Democrats rose as the party dedicated to slavery. And it takes a back seat to no-one in its record of support for racisms of all sorts.

If the racist element of the GOP and its supporters in the southern red states, including the Fox and Breitbart fed Duck Dynasty idolizing, Apprentice fantasing public had not been brought together to believe crap about Obama that confirmed their inner racist hatred that the GOP used and manipulated - and Obama had not been blocked at every turn from doing his job - the U.S. and the world would look a lot different and a lot better right now.

No, the far right does not favour Hillary. Trump hired a Brietbart mogul and a former Fox mogul to his advisory team for crying out loud!

The NY times wrote an article the supports your position that Hillary and the military get along quite well!

Yes, the Republicans and Democrats switched stripes...a long time ago! But they've been the party that the confederate flag toting believers in the south have supported ever since!

The neo-nazis and their associates are the far right, in my mind. The KKK and the like, in the U.S. White supremacy groups. They are gaining ground in Europe, in Russia, they had a big hand in Brexit (Ukip contains elements of it) that are bringing out militant nationalist reactions, and Trump is working with them.

I call Hillary to the right of centre, actually. She is not far-right, though. Tim Kaine may be centre, slightly left of, because of his Jesuit background. In a way, I wish he and Hillary switched roles but I know that's not going to be the case.
 
The situation has been worsening, for blacks (if it actually has or if that's a false perception - it may be better in some ways but worse in others) not because of Obama but to spite Obama - literally!
 
And Graeme...that Intercept article I posted way back, described a general's attempts to use back channels to deceive Obama about Russia's troop presence in Europe. I wonder how many green lights he has given to people that he has to trust, providing him with false reports and/ or erroneous advice. Maybe that's why generals were getting fired more under Obama's watch.
 
It's all about racism. Racism has damaged the U.S. and made the world more dangerous because a president with good intentions was blocked and deceived and distracted from doing his job - all manner of ridiculous conspiracies were made about him from him not being American (that birther thing never let up to the point where people actually believe Obama's presidency was fraudulently engineered from the day he was born!!!), to him being a communist of all things, to being a closet Muslim extremist, to being Satan himself - because there are too many who could not accept a black president in the whitehouse and they did everything they could to undermine him short of using racist words. Which, in the south, were used plenty anyway. The racists with power colluded to influence the uninformed racists without power. Now, we have Trump. And a world in more disarray than it otherwise could've been.
