TRUMP - Some people think......... How do you feel?

I read that several prominent Republicans will not vote for Trump and there's a Never Trump movement that seems to be picking up traction. So, even if he is a shoe in nominee, they will either not vote, or vote for Hillary.

Given that...today Trump said he thinks the rich should pay higher taxes...so now that he's losing Republicans he's hoping to make up for it by wooing Sanders' supporters who won't vote for Hillary if she's the Dem nominee. The man will say ANYTHING to win. That is all he wants...to win, to be powerful. His manipulation is so obvious I don't know why so many are falling for it. He's so full of himself there is no way of knowing what he actually stands for, if anything, for real...except winning. It's like he's saying, "I'll win first and figure out what I really believe in later." Whereas, I think Sanders means what he says, and Hillary means at least a good portion of what she says. She is "the establishment" but it would not be too hard to imagine where she'd make changes, where she'd maintain the status quo, and where she might flip-flop, or at least have a tough time getting things passed by congress, like Obama did. And I think she more than anybody knows those things, too. I think she and Sanders both want to try to do the best for the country in different ways. They both believe they have good intentions for their country. But Trump is all about himself and him as president is a total crapshoot - he could say anything and do the opposite at anytime.

And now, the Dems have to be absolutely giddy with anticipation.

The Democrats aren't "giddy with anticipation" at all. It's not getting the media play here in Canada at least that the Republican problems are having. The Canadian media are focusing almost exclusively on how divided the Republicans are. I don't usually get on the CBC for showing bias but if you watch or read any CBC coverage of the primaries you'd be hard pressed to even know that there is a contest in the Democratic Party. It's all about Trump, Trump, Trump, and how divided the Republicans are, and how the Republicans are tearing themselves apart. But the Democratic Party is hardly one big happy family. A lot of Bernie Sanders supporters hate Hillary Clinton. They hate her. They viscerally hate her. Many will not vote for her. Based on both posts by Facebook friends who are Democrats and Sanders supporters (and I have a few) and then the posts I see from their friends who share their views and also from American media reports, a lot of Sanders people simply won't vote for her. I've noted especially among women who are Sanders supporters that they have absolute contempt for Hillary. One charge I've seen (which I think is pretty valid actually) is that she actively enabled her husband to be an exploiter and abuser of women before and during his presidency. They'd rather see Trump in the White House than Clinton. Neither Trump nor Clinton are particularly liked within their own parties, never mind by the electorate as a whole.

My money (were I a gambling man) would still be on Clinton but people have been underestimating Trump from the start. Suggesting that Trump will not be "effective opposition" to Clinton is crazy. Once Trump is officially nominated and the general election begins, this will get extremely ugly. Uglier than anything we've seen in the past - especially from the Trump side. They will try to savage Hillary Clinton - and there's a lot to savage her over. While the Dems will attack Trump in return, I expect they will also try to portray Hillary as more "presidential" than Trump, leaving it to Trump to really get people's emotions stirred up. And almost all elections come down to emotion rather than logical thought.

I'm very uneasy watching this campaign play out. Trump's a longshot, but not as much of a longshot as I originally thought. And, frankly, a whole lot of Americans won't give a damn whether a few high profile Republicans refuse to support Trump. That might even help him in an election where both Trump and Sanders (and even Cruz for that matter) have demonstrated that there's a whole lot of negative feeling toward the establishment politicians. People who are expecting a Hillary landslide are being ridiculously naive and don't seem to grasp what's going on south of the border.

Agreed revsdd. A friend of mine in the U.S. is always reminding me of how difficult it can be to get Americans out to vote when it matters. I predict a Clinton presidency, but it won't be a landslide and I'm making no bets on how Congress or the Senate will roll out, seats-wise.

I too hope for Clinton ... after reading her book I sense a great trend towards diplomacy ... something missing in many politicians as they tend towards extremism ... once known as polity ... declared eliminated from church life!

Ya sure ... but then some find me a cynic rare among followers ... hermeneutic or something of Herman's Woulk ... disturbed wha' terres?

From a policy POV, I prefer Sanders of course, but if Clinton can convince Warren to be her running mate, might be even better. I consider Sanders to be Warren-lite, anyway.

Having lived through Bob Rae's Ontario, I dread the thought of any socialist or mini-socialist winning power. At any rate, D. Trump will be the next POTUS.

What's a po' Tous compared to a misplaced Nous?

The understanding of strange things we deny is enough to cause strange love ... yah gotta feel for the po' outlanders ...

I agree that for Clinton Elizabeth Warren would be the best choice for running mate she could make. She'd have the greatest appeal to the Bernie supporters. There's also been suggestions of Julian Castro - a member of Obama's Cabinet. Some think that, at 41, he'd have some appeal to the younger crowd that have flocked to Sanders and don't seem to like Clinton very much. I've seen people suggest that she should try to convince Bernie, but I doubt that will happen. I've even seen some speculation that she might try to convince Joe Biden to stay on as Vice President. Again - doubtful.

More interesting is who Trump will pick. I expect that he'll pick someone who comes as a surprise - someone who hasn't been a supporter of his, someone who represents the more "establishment" side of the Party. Many have speculated that he's trying to convince John Kasich to take the spot. I've also seen speculation about Condoleeza Rice. Some have talked about Rob Portman - a senator from Ohio. Portman says he's not interested, but he's experienced, which could help the Donald. But many Republicans already feel that Trump isn't conservative enough and Portman (who publicly supports same sex marriage for example) is seen as a moderate. "Moderate" is a dirty word in Republican politics. And if you're hoping for fun on the campaign trail, some have suggested that Trump might consider Howard Stern as his running mate.

And as for Bob Rae - he gets a raw deal. He and the NDP took over just on the verge of a major recession. Why do you think David Peterson called an early election after just three years even though he had a huge majority (95 out of 130 seats I believe he had won in 1987)? Because the Liberals knew a recession was on the horizon and thought they could get their majority renewed before it hit. Instead the election call backfired. It was considered unnecessary, the Liberals didn't seem to have much of a platform aside from "isn't Peterson great!", and Peterson himself came across as arrogant and the NDP unexpectedly won and then had to deal with the recession that hit. Give Rae credit - he tried to do what he thought was best. He alienated his own party's biggest supporters - the labour unions - with the Social Contract, because he thought it was necessary. And then he got hung with the recession around his neck. It was just bad timing for the NDP to take power. No one else would have done appreciably better in the circumstances.

Is a conservative republican as distasteful as a psychic medium ... or a thinking Meany?

Such weird things cause me a sense of chaos ...

:ROFLMAO:Omg...Howard Stern?!! I shouldn't laugh...that shouldn't come as a surprise at this point. What's more shocking is that he might be a Republican. Is he?? I just can't picture it. He's a distasteful. crass shock-jock on air...but seems pretty liberal, and intelligent, and maybe more compassionate underneath the persona. And actually I might even prefer him for president over Trump.

But...upon reflection, maybe not.

I can't even read about him anymore. Except I just did. He pulls the most asinine comments out of his you-know-what. He's a loose canon. Cruz was not good presidential material, scary, but predictably so. Trump is all over the place without a clue. I mean, he's smart in that he knows how to bulls**t to win -if you can call that smart - but doesn't have the kind of smarts to run one of the most powerful countries while the world is such a mess! I'm a little nervous.

Sadly I think the democrats underHilary have a big challenge

She just isn't that likeable. Not sure why but she isnt.

Trump will attack her hardboiled. Can she survive that? Can we all survive if she doesn't?

Part of me thinks that while the president is powerful, congress is more so. Can they control Trump! Guess that depends who is in control

This will be an issue for trudeau. While Bush was president the liberals were very anti USA. SinceObama they have been all lovely dovey. what will they do with Trump as our biggest trading partner

Trump would be a going concern for the whole world no matter who we had as PM. Even Harper's a softie compared to Trump - he's more level headed. I'll give him that. And I wasn't a Harper supporter. Hillary and Harper are probably closer in political stance than Hillary and Trudeau - she's considered 'left' of centre there but likely wouldn't be here - but still Hillary would be a far sight safer to have as president, I think. She knows what she's doing even if not everyone agrees. She's competent and more reasonable. I'd rather more of the same down south for 4 years, than the wild Trump card.

I think it's highly unlikely we'll see a Drumpf presidency, but should I be wrong (and it happens, although do not tell the Hippie or my kids...), I'd anticipate a circus similar to the one that occurred during Rob Ford's mayoralty of Toronto (not to speak ill of the dead). Lots of bluster, lots of bulls**t, discovers that Presidents/Mayors don't have as much raw power as he thinks they do, lots of careening around and making headlines, huge fodder for talk shows, then, eventually, it's over, and life returns to normal.
