When I was growing up in Quebec, that kind of Christianity already existed in the Catholic churches, especially the French Catholic ones. No piece of government legislation would even be put forward until it been approved by the bishop.
Protestants had a modest bonus from this. I know a Protestant clergyman who went to court to pay for a ticket. He was stopped before he could appear, and was told to forget about it. The clerk look at his clerical collar and said, "a priest cannot appear in court."
That all collapsed in the 1970s. I well remember the day I was walking toward the cathedral in Old Montreal. The streets were all closed to traffic and to parking in anticipation of the thousands that would be out to celebrate the holy day. But as I walked through the streets, I wondered where the mobs were. Then I saw them. There were 50 or so gathered across the street from the cathedral.
On the good side, English Catholics were developing an excellent social action programme.
Well, we already knew this. And the real issue is what the Clintons did politically. This is self-righteous posturing. But it has nothing to do with the political behaviour of the Clintons or of Trump. Hitler, if not married to Eva Braun, was faithful to her. He was not a man who abused women. Nor have a I ever even heard of sexual misbehaviour by Joseph Stalin.
Then to link this to leftism in the Clintons (who had no leftist views at all), is absurd.
Without trying hard, I can think of a British prince, now a media darling, who was a real sexual pervert - and who never made the news. And the journalists know all about him. Then there were signers of the U.S. declaration of independence who had illegitimate babies by their slaves.
And without trying hard, I can think of an English Queen who was sexually active, to say the least, and whose lovers risked prison if she got tired of them.
Bill Clinton was certainly despicable in sexual matters. Of course he was. But his sins and his wife's sins as politicians were far worse, and harmed far, far more people, both men and women.
This 'news' item is simply hate mongering
Does anyone but me find the rev's predictions very masculine in nature?
Not seeing it, explanation please.Does anyone but me find the rev's predictions very masculine in nature?
Whatever gender his predictions might be, I think he's quite possibly right.
Yes. Political punditry/ commentary usually has a masculine tone. Because politics is male dominated, it's often expected to be, also - in order to be taken seriously.Does anyone but me find the rev's predictions very masculine in nature?

Alternately, Trump could be fired/ impeached/ step down due to incapacity. If he hangs on until 2020, and the renewed women's movement momentum continues, a female candidate other than Hillary Clinton, could rise from the ranks of a more progressive political point of view - break up the ol' boys club - and reshape how politics and policy is done; in tone and substance.
Another possibility, is that Al Franken - who I think has, overall, done more good than his adolescent class clown butt grabbing indiscretions point to - since he did the honourable thing by stepping down - will have been redeemed in the public eye by 2020, and he'll run for office. I don't believe he's a chronic irredeemable misogynist. i think, in the big picture, he supports women. I think he did a few stupid, impulsive, stunts that weren't funny. Like a high school boy in front of his friends. And I think he realizes it. I'm not sure what Trump realizes, whatsoever.
Or, maybe Franken's Minnesota successor, a female (Tina?), will continue his good work and run for office herself. Franken was really disappointing - because overall, I think he's one of the good guys.
Women like Margaret Thatcher and Bloody Mary.
Yes, that Maggie was sure a bastion of progressiveness.......![]()
She was a British stateswoman who served as Prime Minister of the UK 1979-1990.
