I have been to England, but have always told my wife that for whatever reason my dream trip is to fly to London, spend a few days there, rent a car and drive to Edinburgh, Scotland to spend a few days there. Edinburgh has always intrigued me.


A few days is totally inappropriate for London! So much to see, taste, smell, experience.

I've been to England quite a few times (all my family outside of my nuclear family live there), and have spent very little time in London. It's tourist-y and everything is bizarrely over-priced. I have been to Edinburgh once. It was pouring rain, as it often is, and it's a very dreary city in the pouring rain. There's lots of places between London and Edinburgh that I like a great deal...
 
We spent a few days in London on part 2 of our honeymoon (part 1, the real honeymoon, was a driving tour of New England and the Maritimes, part 2 was going to Berlin via London once we got to Halifax where she lived at the time. However, the Berlin part was work for Mrs. M so it's more of an unofficial addendum to the honeymoon) and I think we saw a lot of the big sights (Trafalgar Square, the churches, the Tower, etc.). The only thing I'd want to do more of is the British Museum. So I'm not planning to go to London again for any length of time. It's the rest of the UK I need to see.
 
Strongly urging a canal trip in those plans. It's a lovely slow way to see the heart of England. And a lovely way to see Wales which is, arguably, one of the most beautiful countries on earth.

Good advice that I shall likely take, esp. the Welsh part. My paternal line came from Cardiff so I plan to see Wales when I do my grand tour.
 
If I didn't live here, I'd live in Wales. It's always a possibility in the back of my mind. I have enough relatives (some in Cardiff, in fact), that I could re-make a social circle. The only problem, once you're a pensioner, is that things can get a bit dicky if exchange rates swing wildly.
 
Britain is amazing - and if you go to Edinburgh let me know - I'll point you in the direction of a fantastic little 'scotch shop' :-) Such amazing history over there, and amazing cathedrals.

Not sure where I want to go next ... so many wonderful places to learn about & experience!

Reminds me a bit of the centre of Granada, Nicaragua, where I spent a night on a tour of the region a couple years ago.
 
I'd love a cruise through the Northwest Passage - not likely to happen unless we win a jackpot (and I don't buy tickets).

We've enjoyed two trips across Canada from east to west, and one to Newfoundland. This summer we are talking about a few days in Nova Scotia - we've been to Cape Breton, so we'd like to do the other end. And trips between here and Ontario.

Florida? - been there, done that.

Our son just completed a trip to Cambodia and sent back a travellog and pictures. Right now our daughter is on holiday at the Grand Canyon. I'm enjoying both trips vicariously.

And Seelerman is talking about taking a canoe, wilderness trip along the headwaters of the Mirimichi - building a lean-to for overnight and living on fiddleheads and brook trout. - Less likely to happen at our age and health conditions as the Northwest Passage.
 
I have dreams much like Seelerman's. Some things that I wanted to do didn't happen (mostly for financial reasons). Other things are far too physically challenging now. The dreams are fun though.
 
Your choice of destinations is quite interesting. I'd say the one place I'd like to see before I go is Lhasa, Tibet, but with my apparent vulnerability for altitude sickness (demonstrated a couple times when I've been higher up in mountain areas) that may be a pipe dream. It's far higher up than any place I've been to, yet.

Lhasa looks like quite an adventure! I'd go there too! I feel just about everywhere in the world would be interesting to visit.

Yeah, but you know what? After a few weeks on the road, I start wanting to come home and sleep in my own bed for a while. Which makes globetrotting a bit difficult since you end up doing it in bits and pieces.

Not me. I just love the places where I go. So much exploring to do. :)
