Watched a terrific documentary tonight (as I now see mentioned also by Mendalla upthread) - "Transforming Gender" - on CBC Doc Zone. I think the full version can also be watched online. I highly recommend it - thought provoking & sensitively done IMO.

Is this similar to condense-achin ... or one eL ve an Acheron to be better'n the sibling ... thus the competition to do the other in ...

Mediation of thought and wisdom would screw up the best of emotions ... we couldn't have that could we?

Would that take a stretch of the abstract or just Ankh as the Levite cord tightens ...allowing a whine ? Sacred chords ... NOSH-ite! Isolated authorities despise connections. communication and socialization! Taem to go gets closer ... like the Maccabees! Dark things that bug those with curio-city!

Luce ......
Round about the caldron go;
In the poison'd entrails throw.—
Toad, that under cold stone,
Days and nights has thirty-one;
Swelter'd venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i' the charmed pot!
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
Such is the brew of willful ignorance....

@RitaTG - Any comments on the topic of species dysphoria? Is that twisted or what?
As I am sure you realize Jae .... species dysphoria has absolutely no relation or similarity at all to gender dysphoria.
It is so very often a very hurtful and deliberately ignorant association that is made by religious persons in their opposition to the notion that being trans is a valid aspect of human creation.
So to be clear ..... I would hope we both realize that these are completely separate and unrelated issues.
That said ..... species dysphoria has no underlying biological basis whereas gender identity has.
Is it twisted? ... no .... no more than any other mental health problem.....
I feel empathy for them and I hope that the issue can be successfully resolved.

My late friend Mike was part of the furry community. Not all of them would say they have species dysphoria and I don't know if he did. However, I do not appreciate the use of the term "twisted" to describe someone who, to my mind, was farther from being so than a lot of "normal" people. "Twisted", in my world, is child abusers, mass murderers, and people who are willing to kill for faith, possessions or money, none of which applies to the furries (at least no more so than to anyone else).

And, as @RitaTG rightly suggests, it has nada to do with the topic.

Agreed Mendalla ...... the furry community and species dysphoria are miles apart as well.... good point.

If this is intended as a genuine question I'd rate it an F.

If this is intended as a question of pastoral sensitivity I'd rate it an F.

If this is intended as inflammatory or provocative comment I'd rate it a C+ maybe a B-

At any rate the question is, accidentally or by design, constructed to direct respondents to an approved answer. It is less interested in what others actually think and more interested in how it can shape others to think.

Well Rev John ..... I also read it that way....
However ..... I tried to rise above the question and use it as a teachable moment....
I hope I did ok :)

That you read it as a genuine question is a credit to you. That you used it as a teachable moment is also to your credit.

I do not know what Pr. Jae's intent was and I lifted up the possibilities of how the question might be taken to show that how a question is asked is no less important than the answer it gets.

It would be great if intent was always transparent. I have never found that to be the case.

Pr. Jae's intent may have been innocent. Communication doesn't happen in a vaccuum and there is a possibility that individuals hearing the question asked as it was are going to respond based on experiences that have been far less than innocent. Conversation will go south very quickly in that event. Being more thoughtful and sensitive about asking the question safeguards against the conversation souring so quickly.

Wise words Rev John ...... thank you....
And for my part .... I am working on more thoughtful and sensitive answers.
I have found out here that at times I too fall to the temptation to respond in a not so considered way.
Truth be told .... there was rather an anemic amount of love in it.
Much work to do and I thank you for helping me along the way :)

Agreed Mendalla ...... the furry community and species dysphoria are miles apart as well.... good point.

Actually, they aren't. They overlap heavily, but not all furries are species dysphoric and vice versa.

I will defer to your expertise Mendalla ...... I have so very little experience or knowledge about this.

I only know because I did some reading up on it after my furry friend passed away. We did not, in fact, know that he was both gay and furry until after his death when we met his boyfriend.

Mendalla, sorry to derail this but I have no idea what is gay and furry.dysphoria????With Rita's

permission, could you explain?

"Furries" are adults who dress up as animals and live "in character" for at least part of their lives. My friend's alter ego was a horse (I forget his horse name). For some it plays into their intimate lives (they and their partners get intimate in character) but it isn't really a sexual fetish but a form of very involved roleplaying that spills over into real life. They have conventions and local associations and so on where they gather (usually in costume).

"Species dysphoria" means someone who actually thinks they are wholly or partly not human. They do not feel human. Some, perhaps many, furries are dysphoric but it's not a given (at least from what I have read).

"Gay" I assume you know.

So "gay and furry" means my friend dressed up and partly lived as his horse alter ego and was intimate with his own sex.
