Just to let everyone here know I am alive and doing well.
I went on a vacation to Cuba at the end of January thanks to the help of some dear friends.
It is rather a strange experience going to a country where just being trans could be a big legal problem.
I am making progress and I will soon be back and contributing yet again.
Anyways .... here is a picture of me being kissed by a dolphin. That actually happened!

Which doesn't necessarily mean schools or states can't allow TG students to use the bathroom of choice, it just means the feds won't be forcing the issue. You'll see schools in more liberal states maintaining allowing choice while in states like North Carolina, the schools will be forced by the state to enforce "bathroom laws" dictating that they must follow the sex on their birth certificate. IOW, a hodge-podge of laws like everything else in the US. To be fair, here in Canada the feds have no say in how schools below the post-secondary level are run so we technically have a hodge-podge, too. However, many provinces have, voluntarily or under court pressure, added gender to their human rights codes and schools come under those human rights codes. See below:

The focus now is on the Feds, with bill C-16, to add gender identity to the Canadian Human Rights Code and the anti-hate provisions of the Criminal Code having passed second reading which means it now goes before committee. If you support this law, let your MP know. There is probably going to be a fight when it goes to the Senate and the more support it has in the House, the easier it will be for them to force it through if the Senate balks.

I feel that it's an important enough news story that shows a difference in thinking between the Obama and Trump administrations.

Seems to be two different things here- the emotional " comfort" of the non- trans population with sharing bathrooms and showers and the physical and emotional safety of transgender people. Are non-trans people "threatened" because another non-trans person could " sneak" into a ladies bathroom, pretending to be trans? And peak through the stall door? Behaviour would identify what's going on.
I would imagine, group showers and bathrooms are major problems for any trans person who hasn't fully completed the transformation to the other gender and even if the law would give them rights, the social pressure and or/ threat would likely lead to avoiding such situations. ( i.e. showering in a female open public shower room while still not looking female- or the other way around), I mean, one would make themselves way too vulnerable.
On the other side, society is slowly changing with regards to " comfort" and being exposed to the other gender in private situations. There are a lot of male nurses and CCAs, ( we never seemed to have had trouble accepting male doctors looking at females) and hospital rooms are now also mixed gender.

My experience is that the bathroom cleaning job seems to stick to one particular gender.

So true. And yet all the fuss about public spaces. Some hospitals are starting to have mixed gender rooms ... let's catch up with our thinking!
