The Rev. Vosper Again

Essentially the congregation pays for the land an building. Sometimes there have been times where grants or seed money have flowed from the wider church to assist with those initial costs. But Congregations are not separately incorporated bodies an so (as I have had it explained to me) they can not own the property outright. The legal corporation is the UCCan and so all property is held in trust for the denomination. Each congregation has a Board of Trustees and their names are on the title deed. However the property can not be disposed of (or, I believe mortgaged) without the permission of the Presbytery.

Makes sense, then. Whereas in a congregational church like UU, each church is separately incorporated and holds title to its property, has its own by-laws, etc.

In English of course, she is right. "A" means "not". She is a "non-theist", which fits quite nicely in with much organized religion, some of it Christian. I am a non-theist who feels she fits just fine in the Christian church. But I too applaud her letter to our former moderator; use Godde all you want, but to do so in the face of the Hebdo murders was just inappropriate, as the murders had been committed in the name of the very same damned God - the God of Sarah, the God of Hagar. of Ishmael the abandoned, of Isaac the almost-slaughtered.

My Answers to the Questions of Ordination

I hope you can open this from Gretta's post on Face Book

If anyone can post it to open, I would be grateful

One last comment - which is why I said way back that after the required course of study there'd be a second interview, which would determine whether further action needed to be taken.

The courses I'm currently in at seminary cost over $1,000 each. Who would you have pay for the courses you suggest for Rev. Vosper?

If God is everything ... does this open the vision to a great variety of perspectives? Yet many are stuck on this all encompassing chit ( wee bit)!

Does create much fallout ... and dissonant cognizance ... but who would listen to big words when god is humble small stuff ... albeit spread all over the cosmos under out feet as things turn ...

As fan clubs go on
They eventually reach a stage where they paint themselves into a corner
So to continue they must reset their storylines
In religious terms these are known as schisims or revivals

(Itll be interesting to see the different interpretations of the exact same words of the Gretta the various readers will have...and who knows maybe theyll organize across tribal-fanclub lines)

What's your experience being in fan clubs Inanna?

If the courses are part of a directed study under the disciplinary process the first payer is the Presbytery (or probably Conference in this case) that orders the directed action. However in any disciplinary processes I have known there is a motion passed as part of requiring the directed action (be that course work or counseling or some other expense) will be cost shared by the church courts and the individual. The percentages of that sharing vary according to circumstance.

Define "nominal". If it is anything less than FMV, then churches that had to pay FMV or higher to buy or rent space in her presbytery (and we are talking GTA so I'm sure FMV isn't "nominal" as I understand the term) should blow a gasket.
It should be well less than FMV. And if others blow a gasket - let them blow a gasket. Too bad, so sad. Get over it. Our building, our decision. Kind of fits under the parable of the workers, some of whom grumbled because others got what they thought was an unfair, sweetheart deal, but what was really an act of God's grace.

The only churches that would be buying or renting from the UCCan under normal circumstances would be non-UCCan churches looking for either a building or space within a building. I submit it would be a very different arrangement if a group of UCCan people decided in good conscience to move on from the UCCan, and we as the UCCan made a special arrangement as a way of saying "no hard feelings, and God be with you." Or whatever we'd say to atheists. I think we could definitely manage to show grace in such circumstances.

Is "grace" something intangible that is supposed to be a free "given"?

She even gave GEO'Ghia a giggle for a bit ... transient ripple, or particular form of wave? Like love & thought comings and going son ...

The internal letter writing campaign has started. Received an email from someone who would describe themselves as progressive Christian, but I would say is rather conservative on that line. Anyhow, all the classic media lines which I struggle with from Gretta's communications. I'm a wee bit tired of it, I must say.

Umm...

Do you remember when GC was cutting staff. I received similar emails.
It is a way to drum up support from withint he community that might be able to influence.

The problem is, of course, that the people sending the email presume that I either am already in support and will move the letter on, or that this email will influence me to do something.

As @GordW has clearly stated, I have no role in the outcome of the review, nor does our church or its church members.

In my mind, it is fear-mongering.
bugs me

Which once again shows a poor understanding of the process and how decisions are made in the UCCan (as it did with the GCO cuts).
