who did not agree with each other on Biblical interpretation. I suppose you would just say that some of them did not really believe in their heart so lacked the Spirit but given that you did not know them, I think you're stretching to pass that kind of judgement. Either the Spirit is really, really picky or there is more involved that the simplistic formula in Romans 10:9.
No -----you need to ask the Holy Spirit to guide you into the truth of Scripture ---I know quite a few Born Again people who don't ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit every time they research scripture -----I do -----you need to ask in prayer for the guidance ------it is there for all believers to access ----at all times -----but you need to ask for the help -----

And, yet, I have known many people to whom Romans 10:9 would apply (confessed a heartfelt belief in Jesus and the Resurrection) who did not agree with each other on Biblical interpretation. I suppose you would just say that some of them did not really believe in their heart so lacked the Spirit but given that you did not know them, I think you're stretching to pass that kind of judgement. Either the Spirit is really, really picky or there is more involved than the simplistic formula in Romans 10:9.
The problem as I see it is getting from Step 1 to Step 2. We can hear the word of God and engage with scripture deeply. We can pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as @unsafe has just suggested. This is the easy part really.

Step 1 can lead to Step 2 (faith). But it doesn't have to. Many an atheist will tell you reading the Bible carefully actually kiboshed their faith.

And if hearing the word of God does lead to faith, it isn't always going to match Unsafe's faith.

Agreeing that praying for guidance is a good idea when approaching scripture.

And I am sure those people I have known in the past would also say they were praying for the Spirit's guidance. But still, there are differences. The Bible is not a simple book and there is no magic bullet to understanding it. The Spirit may help guide one's study of scripture, but clearly does not provide pat answers that everyone can agree on.

Is a holae spirit rather like a sponge, given the fecudity that needs to be absorbed within the body of a mortal? ONE can say it would be a learning experience for those falling out of heaven ... and in the end the devil takes all!

It even says that in the book ...

It is not a perspective ---it is the way to Salvation ------you have a choice to accept it or reject it -----

This is a faith statement Unsafe.

Well --a perspective to me is a point of view -----the way of Salvation is not my point of view --as Jesus is the Word so this way to Salvation is from Jesus Himself and you either believe what Jesus says or you don't and if you do then you follow the Way of the Word who is Jesus ------and if you don't believe what Jesus says then you reject what He Says to be saved

But here is another thing to ponder -----to be Saved -----the Father has to draw you to Salvation -----

There is a lot to know and learn --about Spiritual life

What does it mean that God draws us to salvation?

The clearest verse on God’s drawing to salvation is John 6:44 where Jesus declares that “no one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.” The Greek word translated “draw” is helkuo, which means “to drag” (literally or figuratively). Clearly, this drawing is a one-sided affair. God does the drawing to salvation; we who are drawn have a passive role in the process. There is no doubt that we respond to His drawing us, but the drawing itself is all on His part.

The natural man has no ability to come to God, nor does he even have the desire to come. Because his heart is hard and his mind is darkened, the unregenerate person doesn’t desire God and is actually an enemy of God (Romans 5:10).

There are tangible ways in which those who are being drawn to salvation experience that drawing. First, the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sinful state and our need for a Savior (John 16:8). Second, He awakens in us a previously unknown interest in spiritual things and creates a desire for them that was never there before. Suddenly our ears are open, our hearts are inclined toward Him, and His Word begins to hold a new and exciting fascination for us. Our spirits begin to discern spiritual truth that never made sense to us before: “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14). Finally, we begin to have new desires. He places within us a new heart that inclines toward Him, a heart that desires to know Him, obey Him, and walk in the “newness of life” (Romans 6:4) that He has promised.

@unsafe
I actually do believe that there is a draw to faith from outside ourselves. I see faith partly as a decision we make yet I believe in that divine lure.

Thanks for a good conversation.

And if hearing the word of God does lead to faith, .

Romans 10:17

Amplified Bible
So faith comes from hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the [preaching of the] message concerning Christ.

This Faith is called Saving Faith but God the Father has to draw you ----that is He has to cause you to Follow -----He opens your Ears to Hear the message ---and changes your hardened heart to a responsive heart -----

Read all yourselves ---just posting this part

Saving faith is not a general belief in the existence of God or in the diving Law of God; for this belief is also held by the heathen...Saving faith is therefore personal trust, or cordial confidence, in the wonderful message of the Gospel that God for Christ’s sake is gracious to all who believe in the atoning blood of His Son shed on Calvary for the sins of the world. Hence saving faith is found only in the heart that says: “I believe that Jesus Christ...is my Lord, who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death.”

Saving faith is when we fully rest that Jesus died for our sin and resting in His promises to us. Luther says of this type of faith, “You must rely with constant trust on this, that Christ died for your sins; such a faith justifies you.”

Saving faith is actively trusting God for salvation. It rests fully in Jesus’ promises and His leading. Saving faith tells us that no matter what we’re experiencing, we are His, bought with a price. This faith allows us to rest in His promises to uphold us and keep us and that when this life is over that we will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven that He has established for us. This saving faith is in the Person of Jesus Christ who has made all of this possible!

I say there are 3 types of Faith in the Bible -- Book of James describes them ----

Intellectual Faith ---non producing faith ---won't save you ----

Demonic Faith ----the demons believe in jesus Christ but they can't be saved

Saving Faith some call it Dynamic Faith -----Faith that produces God's promises which includes Salvation -----

This Faith is a Substance -----it is your title deed for your Salvation and manifesting God's promises in your life ------

Strong's Concordance
hupostasis: a support, substance, steadiness, hence assurance
or a guaranteeing --

5287 hypóstasis(from 5259 /hypó, "under" and 2476 /hístēmi, "to stand") – properly, (to possess) standing under a guaranteed agreement ("title-deed"); (

figuratively) "title" to a promise or property, i.e. a legitimate claim (because it literally is, "under a legal-standing") – entitling someone to what is guaranteed under the particular agreement.

For the believer, 5287 /hypóstasis ("title of possession") is the Lord's guarantee to fulfill the faith He inbirths (cf. Heb 11:1 with Heb 11:6). Indeed we are only entitled to what God grants faith for (Ro 14:23)

And this has been a very cool thread

Ty Triple Paradox (a Trinity of Contradiction lol) for starting this

And ty unsafe for continuing to be here :3

I am surprised by how many posts were added in the last day or so.

About trust. The master gave the third servant a chance to surprise him. The ability in the parable is the willingness to take risks along with managing those risks. One of my disappointments in ministry was discovering how many clergy were reluctant to take risks in their ministry.

About parables. Some dramatize a current reality in such a way that the wrongness of that reality is blatant such as the dishonest steward. Some hold a paradox. They all serve to provoke awakeness and reflection and reconsideration of values or status or beliefs. For example, fairness. From the point of view of the economic system, giving more to the one has the most produces the most results for the system. Getting rid of the third servant is getting rid of a dead weight. The parable of the mustard seed implies the kingdom of heaven is not about serving the system. Most parables offer insights into different situations. The discussion of this parable offered very different ways to use this parable. The third servant reveals possible consequences for those who resist the evil in a system along with other interpretations. Each insight can be appropriate in different situations.

The interpretations of some parables offered in the gospels are probably those of the evangelist appropriate for their situation.

I am going to the fall meeting of the region in Ottawa tomorrow so this might be my last comment before Sunday. I will post the next thread sometime Sunday.

This was referring to the point of view of the system. I do not identify you with the third servant since you seem willing to take risks and you put your abilities to work in many ways.

On the other hand, you have no idea of my intense desire to subvert a whole bunch of systems. If I were Benevolent Dictator For Life, what havoc I would wreak. There would not be a billionaire left standing, and the banks would be commanded to dissolve into 1/100 or 1/1000th of their current size and credit unions owned by the people established in their place, LOLOLOL. I wouldn't give me a lot of money for any reason. I would blow it all housing poor people and letting the big guy invite as many people to dinner whenever he wished, instead of worrying about the drain on my grocery budget.

In other words, the master wouldn't have found his money, at least intact, if somewhat buried. He'd have found it blown/gone/don't trust me with money! He could have done worse than the third servant. (Although I might waste a bit on shoes, apparently. I'm no Esmeralda Marcos, but apparently, I have TOO MANY SHOES - according to my dear decluttering friend/helper...and she doesn't quite know the half of it; I think there's one more little stash of shoes...)
