Was the Pastor encouraging people to break the quarantine act or other covid related rules to stop the spread of a virus that is killing people? I don’t know what he said in his sermons, but he was saying that by his actions of having people attend his large congregation. He’s in a position of responsibility, and influence, to many people. It’s criminally negligent.

The ex-security employee is more than likely going to go to jail if he is convicted. He’s convicted of serious crimes. He was named, himself. He’s not being let off the hook! It has to do with him, far more than the company they have a contract with. I don’t know why you insist on trying to compare apples to oranges.

(Though the company obviously needs to look more closely at who they’ve hired for this contract, and do some re-screening -- and maybe the contract ought to be given to a different company. It has nothing to do with the pastor! It’s a different problem. Both are serious.)

And in Montreal ...

Robert Shakory faces one count of sexual assault, one count of breaking and entering, and one count of criminal harassment. His next court date is May 3.

In a statement, the Public Health Agency of Canada said it's very concerned by the allegation and is working with the hotel and with law enforcement "to shed light on the situation."

The Sheraton facility is different from the ones set up to host travellers starting this week, said agency spokesman Andre Gagnon.

As of this week, people are required to reserve their stay in advance at a government-authorized private hotel while they await the results of their airport tests, he wrote in an email.

"These accommodations are different from designated quarantine facilities, which are managed by the Public Health Agency of Canada and generally used to accommodate symptomatic travellers or those unable to quarantine in accordance with the requirements," he explained.

The government-mandated quarantines are "necessary" to protect Canadians from COVID-19 and its variants, he said, but the government "takes the health, safety and security of travellers who are staying in Government-authorized accommodations or designated quarantine facilities very seriously."

Federal Public Health "is aware of the incident from February 17, 2021 at the Designated Quarantine Facility in Montreal," he said, and "takes these allegations extremely seriously."

As for existing safety measures, government employees as well as security staff "are stationed at designated quarantine facilities to help provide a safe and secure environment," he wrote.

Public Health officials are also "in daily contact with hotels to support their needs," he said.

"At this time, in order to protect the privacy of those involved, we will not comment further on this situation."

But Pastor Coates ... still in jail because he will not meet conditons of his bail.

Two separate cases, two separate provinces, nothing in common. Your "What-about-ism" is showing again. Not a good look for you
Makes no difference ... it is the same court of law. Jail for the preacher and bail for the rapists. Keeping you safe in a big bubble of willful ignorance.

Once again, totally irrelevant. If you can't wrap your mind around the distinctions between Pastor Coates and King, Socrates and Gandhi (to whom you tried to equate him earlier), and the differences between Pastor Coates, and the other two distinctly different cases in the other two distinctly different provinces, the frankly, continuing this conversation is a waste of my time.

Are you mixing up me and Rita?

Imagine church folk preaching about the law must be abided with ... and all that!

The church is going to pot ... they have no ideals and guidelines ... zip ... and they are gone ... ziplines?

You are someone who can't tell the difference between bad laws and necessary ones, can you @Ritafee? (Which is why some laws are necessary.)

I think some laws are necessary. We can argue about what the penalties ought to be, though. I'm not a lock em up and throw away they key type.

He did not force anyone to attend his church ... he kept his church open because his congregation wanted it open. It is not criminally negligent to gather together and take responsibility for their own risk assessment. Pastor Coates acted according to his conscience and because he is not willing to lie to get out of jail he is willing to accept the consequences.

He's willing to accept the consequences then.

He's not a martyr or a hero, @Ritafee

He wouldn't have to lie to get out of jail. He would have to promise and keep his promise not to do what he did that landed him there. Since he can't do that, he's still in jail.
