Our 'traditions' change each year. The only real tradition part is that a bunch of family get together and eat a bunch of stuff! This year, my daughter works and both boys are elsewhere. So we are eating with a big crowd of people at my sister's in-laws place on Sunday. (My husband's family is out of town so we borrow my sisters' families locally). I'm bringing pies, potatoes, cranberries, Harvard beets and wine. On Monday, we will pack a picnic and go to the camp to clean out the fridge and close it up for the winter. There might be a few of us together for that so it will seem like a second Thanksgiving.
 
This year I'll be cooking - on Thanksgiving Monday. Because of our busy schedules, we'll be keeping it simple - Chicken Pot Pie, Stuffing, Gravy, and Pumpkin Ice Cream.
 
Mm. Chicken pot pie sounds like a nice idea. I think I've ranted before about being sick of turkey so I'll spare you that one. If I was going to be home, I'd probably do a tandoori chicken with lentils and eggplant, my usual Indian menu.

I like Mendalla am travelling for work in the US, though I am leaving Sunday.
Thinking of having Thanksgving dinner on Friday. The boys want it as they love the feast, so will ensure we fit it in.

and....now I am not travelling. Dinner will be Saturday, and I have a nice few days to relax and do other volunteer work.
May try to spin up a trip to Rockton Fair

That sounds good.

The pie is to save time and energy. In some other years I've roasted a turkey, and it is a lot of work. Yobo and my sons are not fans of the bird either, or it might be worth it. The Thanksgiving we were living in northern Alberta, we cooked fish. So fast and easy.

Ha! That's right Tabitha. That's funny. I had forgotten about that. That would have been Yobo's first Thanksgiving running her flower store. She had just opened it. This year the whole family will dine together, after Yobo and our middle son return home from working at the store.
 
We are off to a family funeral today. Tomorrow we'll likely be tired - long drive each way +emotional stress. Monday we'll do 'whatever'. A family gathering is not on the horizon for the long weekend, though one adult kid is cooking a big meal and sharing it with friends. Two others are providing part of a feast with the other side of their family. Peace and quiet and laid back is good too.
 
We have been discussing 'skipping out' as the weather and roads aren't sounding good for a longish trip for two aging farts. Ultimate decision rests with hubby - I'm just waiting for it to be made. So often it takes a funeral to get to spend time with family. I have met several members of the youngest generation at one or other funeral.
 
Funerals of those who were ready to go are often good visiting times with family members.

We changed our plans because of the travel conditions. It's not the roads themselves, it's the fact we really haven't had any snow yet and people freak out with the first snowfall.
Yesterday afternoon I heard there were quite a few cars in the ditch on the highway. We got hit with the snow here starting yesterday evening. It's also fairly windy. We were going to come home tomorrow evening and it sounded like chances were good for rain and then freezing.

My sister decided to stick with travel plans. We'll see them Monday for a feast if they don't have to adjust their travel plans as they aren't actually having a Thanksgiving meal while in Calgary. *scratches head*
We'll do a slow cooker turkey dish tomorrow. I feel kinda bad, my sister in law wanted to have Thanksgiving with us this weekend before she knew our plans to travel and with the late notice she made other plans. Not sure if we'll have any guests tomorrow or not.
 
It's still pleasant and warm-ish here, although a little more seasonal today. Still have to get gardens to bed. Much of it I leave, but there's stray things to be harvested, pots to be emptied, etc.

Although we're a couple of weeks past our 'old' first frost date, it's supposed to cool down to near zero within the week. I'd 'normally' anticipate first snow somewhere around Hallowe'en.

We're having our Thanksgiving Feast tomorrow. I have purchased ingredients; daughter has pitched in a bit and has/will share heavily in the cleaning and the prep. A turkey is brining; it was a utility with missing breast skin, so I will be constructing a bacon patch before roasting, lol, and serving with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, gravy, bread and sausage stuffings, sweet potatoes (without marshmallows, lol), brussel sprouts, fresh buns (if I get my butt in gear...) Homemade spiced squash pie (squash is roasting as we speak). It will be just five or six of us; my guy and I, my daughter and her guy and his Mom, maybe my solo sister. My son is still floating away on his mobile home in a harbour off Salt Springs Island, so will be joining us only in spirit. My recently deceased friend often joined me for Thanksgiving, as did my favourite neighbor who moved away last winter, so it will be a bit subdued, I think.

I do too. :confused:
I think some of the herbs I was planning on drying isn't likely to happen. Want to do some mint cuttings indoors. All came back after sitting out last year. Will throw in the garage so hopefully I can have both. Will wait until the next warm day, likely to still get those.
 
I always like sharing garden produce at our Thanksgiving feast. This year, it is just the beets, onions, tomatoes. Our potatoes aren't plentiful enough. And our carrots never did amount to much. Everything else got eaten.
 
My husband cooked the feast for tonight.

Roast beef,mushrooms, baked potatoes, corn, buns, dressing, cranberries and here is what I like: squash, Brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, and a nice red wine.

I couldn't figure out why cranberries and dressing, but hey I wasn't cooking

Cranberries and dressing are traditional Thanksgiving foods.
