But didn't Jesus claim to "be" God, not just pointing a finger at God?

i recall at least one of my midrash as Jesus = loving your neighbour as yourself, never judging & repeating and g_d = holding this above all else, no excuses (& acting in harmony with reality)

worshipping idols = mistaking the finger (the philosophy, the Way, etc) for the moon (the goal, etc)

we all tend to put essences, literalize words & reality, make idols out of, forget our involvement & interaction with them

i think it was Blasphemy

(John 10:33) “We are not stoning you for any of these,” replied the Jews, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”

and humanity keeps on doing that

hurting, shaming, murdering, etc that which triggers what we consider blasphemy (and not all of us on earth share the same things that we consider blasphemous) -- even the AMA at one time considered Dr Wilhelm Reich a 'blasphemer'...or look at Greenpeace now, capitalism is a blasphemy...or any hint of socialism in the US...

because this is a trained thing, what we learn as youngins, what we consider blasphemous is very difficult to detangle, because it is so strongly emotional, evinces a very strong visceral disgust or avoidance...and we don't want to feel uncomfortable, so we'll do quite a variety of things to get rid of that uncomfort, mostly by dealing with it externally and not trying to deal with it internally...

.

but in today's society the word Blasphemy has evolved into a different meaning which is relevant to what you posted above in actuality Blasphemy means A contemptuous or profane act, utterance, or writing concerning God or The act of claiming for one self the attributes and rights of God or attributing the works of evil to God
