And some of us are saying that simple binaries don't work in the real world and a God who understands the world (given God made it) would know that and account for it. It's not a matter of choosing between light and dark, it's a matter of moving around on a continuum. There are no absolutes in human lives. We can have both light and darkness in us and do so most or all of the time.
It's why I lean to unmerited grace if I was to embrace a faith built around salvation (which I don't, but that gets into another whole difference in how we see the world). God has given us grace already so salvation is assured, but God does want us to acknowledge and live in the light of that grace.
As for your Star Wars image, I have long since decided Lucas blew it with The Force. Something more like chi, a force that is neither light nor dark, would be better. Then it is purely the intent of the wielder that decides light vs. dark. IOW, there is no light or dark side of The Force, just of the beings who try to use it. Possibly even an implication that Force-wielders of all stripes are overstepping and that The Force will take things its own way in the end, which would likely be some form of balance (which is where I thought Lucas would go at one point but he insisted on staying with the light-dark binary even as he inserted babble about bringing balance). Both the Jedi and the Sith are deceiving themselves about the true nature of The Force and therefore lose in the end.
