You know what is really cool, ninj? I don't love that, and I generally love strings. And that's alright! I'm trying to introduce my big guy to classical music, and he's beginning to learn. "If it sounds like wind chimes hurled into a hurricane, I don't like it", was a recent comment.

Interesting. There's a Chinese version of her instrument and the name escapes me. Will ask my pal Google later. For now, here's Nini Music, a Taiwanese musician who uses traditional Chinese instruments (sometimes electrified, sometimes purely traditional) for rock covers and originals.

For instance, some classic early eighties metal (written and originally recorded by Ozzy Osbourne). And that might actually be the Chinese counterpart of the shamisen right there.

Like that, think that the combo of eastern plus western chording doesn't always work Listen to the constant flat and sharp changes (per Western notation) in the above.

Watched this with my bro. They handed out these lil transformers with tubes that you pushed a button and put your open mouth around the tube and your voice sorta sounded like a transformer :3 What I think it really was was an aquarium air pump if you remember those; when you turned them on they hummed quite loudly.

This great song

Just found out his genre is Motivational Rock

and he has worked for Netflix doing the songs for their Transformers show :3

I know we have some other Pentatonix fans around. This is a new solo single by Scott Hoying of that group. Lovely song. I think it might be shot in Iceland but not 100% sure. Doesn't say in the description. And his partner in this video is his real-life fiancé. Not sure if releasing in Pride Month was deliberate, but it sure fits.

Some great LGBTetc folx from and in TX

Some that thrive very well in that diverse and-- HUGE it should be a country --state

Good to see Pentex is still around, working for the Wyrm...err

Sorry, wrong reality lol

Yeah, the group is still a going concern though we are seeing more and more solo work and outside projects from them. Besides this solo work, Scott has Superfruit with fellow Pentatonix member Mitch Grassi (yes, the "fruit" is reference to the fact that both are gay). Kirsten did one solo EP but it seemed to kind of stiff or at least was not as popular as her Pentex work (she's also a Mom now with partner Ben Hausdorff, a filmmaker who has done work for Pentatonix). And, of course, original bass Avi Kaplan left and has been doing some terrific country and folk work since.

TX is an amazing place

My bro (who is similar to my family -- we are all commie pinko tree huggers) travelled it extensively on his bike

All kinds there, from the Freedom loving 2nd amenders to arty farty fruity peeps :3

I even know of a mtf who moved from Las Angeles with her SO to Austin and has a great time there, esp with good ol boy cis who know who she is (a mtf) and treat her how she wants to be treated :3

Thanks for the further delving into artists' lives

You are a good ally

Austin has a reputation for being the blue end of Texas, though. After all, it's the home of SXSW and Austin City Limits. Not sure an mtf would fare as well in some other parts of the state.

Fitting that on Canada Day and with Independence Day looming, Walk Off The Earth released a cross-border collaboration. Their new release features American pop/rock violinist Lindsay Stirling as a guest artist. Lively song and Lindsay's playing is as sublime as ever.

And something a bit stranger and darker from the wonderful Brazilian alto Violet Orlandi. After being fairly quiet so far this year, she released a half hour vlog updating fans on what's happening in her world and answering a pile of fan questions, followed by this new video for a song from her upcoming next full album of original material. Part of the reason for the drop in the number of videos coming from her is a new focus on quality over quantity and it really shows in this one.

(and oh crap, Violet hearted my comment on this video :giggle: )

One of the most overused songs by the content creator set has to be "Mary on a Cross" by Ghost. I swear that I can't go through a bunch of Youtube Shorts without hearing it at least once or twice. Which is kind of sad because I am getting sick of it and, yet, it's actually a very good piece of melodic rock from one of the best bands of this century. So as a palate cleanser, here's the band themselves doing it live in Tampa last year. Just watch as lead singer Papa Emeritus IV (I think we're on IV), aka Tobia Forge, gets the audience to become an impromptu choir on the chorus. And I swear, every single one of them knows it, too. It dates back to fairly early in the band's career.

As often as not, the Strombo Show irritates me. Me and George largely part company on music, although we share a mutual adoration for Atwood. However, yjr show came on tonight while I wasn't paying attention, and before I knew it, I had been captivated by this lovely cover of a Cockburn classic:
