Snoopy Considers 1 Corinthians

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

For some reason, we often seem to get the idea that Christians, particularly leaders, should be completely selfless.

Even Jesus took time out to rest, pray and meditate. And he was willing to rely on others to meet his material needs.

Interesting passage which could take us into a discussion of healthy boundaries. If we wanted to go there.

Thanks for keeping the conversation going @Jae.

Chapter 9

Here again we see Paul having to defend his Apostleship --------Satan at work here in Paul's believing Church -----so he has to constantly defend himself on his qualifications ----he has been caring for and schooling them about Christ's faith and preaching the Good News to them ---

verse 1 -AMPC B ---Am I not an apostle (a special messenger)? Am I not free (unrestrained and exempt from any obligation)? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you [yourselves] not [the product and proof of] my workmanship in the Lord?

I say
---This is the same today for True Ministers who are met with unkind discouraging remarks and disapproval in their congregation----for whatever reason ------

He is then defending his Rights as an Apostle in the next few verses -----

I say -----Amazing how the Church can be swayed and deceived into non trust by a few who want to cause conflict and division in the group ---

Paul then gives a few arguments to prove his claim ----

7 [Consider this:] What soldier at any time serves at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat any of the fruit of it? Who tends a flock and does not partake of the milk of the flock?

I say
-----This shows the Stamina --Dedication and Agape Paul has to try and keep his Church on the Right track ---he has to put in the effort to maintain his Stance within the Church ----Paul's Faith us grounded and rooted in Christ so he can withstand the storms that come against him ---

True Christians today have to acquire thick skin and deep rooted Faith in the Vine to stay the course of defending their Faith in Christ ---as there is much yeast tainting the Fold -----

Paul states that he is a free man but puts himself in a slave position so he can save as many people as he can by them hearing the Good News ---and sharing in the blessings the Good News offers -----

Paul gives some encouragement to them in the last verses ---runners run the race but only one gets the prize ---so run like the runner who wins and get the prize at the end ----only know that here the prize only lasts a time --- go for the Prize that lasts forever ----A serious runner has strict training and has a goal in place ----allowing their bodies to be subjected to harsh discipline to subdue it ----Paul says he must keep a close watch on himself that he doesn't fall short of getting the reward in the end ---

This is a true fact for all true Christians it is so easy to allow life's hardships and the storms of life to infiltrate our Holy Space and bring us down spiritually so we start doubting our true Christian Status ----we have to remain steadfast in our Foundational Faith Stance and stay focused on Jesus and know that we are grounded and rooted in Him through His faith ----which embodies us by and through the Holy Spirit ------If the Faith Foundation is not Solid ---the House will fall ---

"Don’t we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cephas?"

The Gospels tells that Jesus healed Peter's mother-in-law. So Peter (Cephas) was married and traveled around with his wife on his missionary tours. Clement of Alexandria (2nd century) informs us that Peter also had children. So it natural to assume that Peter's children traveled with their parents at times. Peter himself identifies his missionary companion as his "son" Mark (1 Peter 5:13). So it is nat ural to assume that Mark is his biological son!
Peter uses "unios," here the biological word for "son," in contrast with "pais," which the NT can use as "son" in the sense of "servant." If this interpretation is correct, then our Gospel of Mark is Mark's record of his Dad's memoirs!

This interpretation enables us to solve the mystery of why Peter's first move after his escape from prison in Jerusalem is to notify his wife Mary and son Mark (first name John) that he is free, but must leave Jerusalem and will presumably notify them of his future whereabouts (Acts 12:12). Luke describes this place as "Mary's house" bot does not mention her marriage to Peter because Luke has little interest in recording family relationships in Acts, not even telling us the James is Jesus' brother.

You're welcome p3, my pleasure.

You make a good point here. Jesus took moments for himself, retreating to pray and rest, and he wasn't hesitant to lean on others when needed. This is a powerful reminder that even the best leaders are human, with limits and needs.

When it comes to healthy boundaries, we must remember that no one can pour from an empty cup. Embracing self care is about recharging ourselves so we can keep on serving others. Setting boundaries helps us maintain our health, enabling us to be better in our interactions

Great thoughts about life in the Vine, unsafe. If it's okay with you, I may quote you in my sermon this coming Sunday which is about that.

n Chapter 9, Paul emphasizes the need for resilience. He draws analogies that resonate deeply, reminding us that we must take time to nourish our spirits.

We Christian leaders today must be rooted in Christ, letting his teachings and the Holy Spirit guide us. We must also recognize that self care is crucial. Paul's love for the early church is inspiring. His encouragement to run the race with focus serves as a reminder that our ultimate prize is eternal

Yes Mystic, the mention of Peter's family traveling with him on his missionary journeys paints a vivid picture of the early Church.

Peter's relationship with Mark highlights the importance of mentorship. The idea that the Gospel of Mark is a record of Peter's memoirs is compelling, showing how the apostles shared their teachings to strengthen the faith of others.

This interpretation underscores how big family is in our spiritual lives. We must lean on our loved ones for support in times of trial

1 Corinthians 10:1-13
Paul advises the Corinthians to learn from the failures of the Israelites because God was not pleased with most of them.

Therefore, says Paul, do not be idolaters; do not be immoral; do not put Christ to the test; do not complain.

The one who thinks he is standing tall needs to be careful not to fall.

Paul reassures the people they will face no trial that has not been faced by others. God will not let them be tried beyond what they are able to bear. Along with the trial, God will provide a way out so they may be able to endure it.

Paul's guidance to the Corinthians offers us a reminder of God's care in our lives. Through our trials, we have God's support to lean on.

Paul's caution against overconfidence encourages us to stay grounded. We are all on this journey together, and supporting each other with kindness will make a world of difference.

God won't let us be tested beyond what we can bear. He'll provide a way out

Snoopy's Snappy Question: 1 Corinthians 10:1-13

How exactly would one put Christ to the test?
That's a great question, p3. When Paul talks about putting Christ to the test in that passage, he's cautioning us against doubting God's presence in our lives.

To put Christ to the test means doubting his love for us. It's about having an attitude of disbelief.

Instead of testing Christ, Paul encourages us to trust in him fully. Trust that he's with us and will provide the strength we need to endure

How exactly would one put Christ to the test?
It is OK to test God in giving tithes -and receiving a Blessing -Malachi 3:10 --God says Test Me on This ---

It is Not Ok to test God to try to prove Himself to a person ----Like when Satan Said to Jesus -----

Matthew 4 --
3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

Testing Christ --means also that one is doubting His Power or Promises by wanting to see Proof of action by putting themselves in a bad situation to see if Christ will intervene on their behalf ===

For Example ---a runner runs for an hour and is thirsty -----He says God will supply my need to have water ---as he runs he sees a Water Well ----He drops by the Water Well which has a bucket tied to a rope so you can get water --but the runner says Christ will give me my needed water -----and sits by well waiting for Christ to intervene and supply his water ----the man dies from thirst as he waits for the Proof that Christ will supply his need ----

Chapter 10:1-13

We See Paul is telling his Church that the israelites under Moses ate and drank the same Spiritual food from the rock which represents Christ here -----but God was not pleased with them and many died in the desert--

Paul says this was meant to be an example for them as the Israelites continues to do evil things ----and they must no follow in their footsteps ---Do not test Christ like they did ----

AMP B here ---verses
We must not tempt the Lord [that is, test His patience, question His purpose or exploit His goodness], as some of them did—and they were killed by serpents.

10 And do not murmur [in unwarranted discontent], as some of them did—and were destroyed by the destroyer.

Paul warns them that if anyone thinks he stands firm and becomes over confident in their thinking that they are immune to Temptation they had better watch over themselves very carefully so they don't fall into sin and condemnation -----

Paul assures them that if they are tempted that they will not be tempted beyond what they can handle as God will supply the way out of this Tempting ----

There are 2 ways we are tempted ---Satan and the Flesh ----and we have God's promise to provide our victory outcome -----

How awesome is that -----Folks

So Here we see Paul encouraging his Church to have Hope ---Faith and Trust in God in all areas of our lives -----How sweet it is ------

"We should not test Christ (10:9)."

The Israelites suffered mass death for testing God in the wilderness. Corinthians test Chris's patience and pay the price of suffering judgment of divinely inflicted sickness and even death for "unworthy" participation of the Lord's supper (11:27-30).

Great point, Mystic. Those passages are reminders to us today to nurture a real friendship with Christ.

We're called to cultivate a heart that's faithful. Before we partake in Communion, let's examine ourselves, ensuring our hearts are aligned with his will. Our actions and attitudes must reflect the love we've received through Christ. Let's honour him in all aspects of our lives, acknowledging that our every breath is a chance to glorify him.

May we learn from the Scriptures and live to please God

Hi All,
Mixing it up today with a very interesting interpretation from The Message.

Bearing in mind MSG is an interpretation (not a translation) how does the passage speak to you?

1 Corinthians 10:14-22

Hi All,
Mixing it up today with a very interesting interpretation from The Message.

Love this passage. It's a poignant reminder to remain vigilant in our walk with God. When we see others reducing God to a mere tool for personal gain, it's essential to keep our focus on the true essence of our faith.

Communion is a beautiful sacrament. When we partake of the elements, we're embracing the unity we have in Christ. It's a moment of connection, both with our Saviour and with one another

I love Peterson's interpretation here:

We don't reduce Christ to what we are: he raises us to what he is.

Chapter 10;14-22
These verse should not be taken lightly in my view -----Taking Holy Communion in an unworthy manner has consequences -----as the next Chapter shows us --

Paul says there is One Loaf of Bread -----Paul is Speaking here to Believing Christians ---
who share in that One Body of Christ -----

I say -------When a person takes the bread of Christ----this represents Christ Body -----that was broken ---beaten and bruised beyond recognition for everyone ---One should keep that in mind when they partake in eating the Bread

Paul says Don't we give thanks for participating in the Blood of Christ

I say ----The Juice or Wine that a person partakes in represents the Sacrificial Blood of Christ which is a Spiritual life giving Blood that was Shed to free all people from Sin and the 2nd Death and render eternal life for the Spirit and Soul ---One should keep in mind when they partake in this drinking that Jesus paid a high Sacrificial price for all -----

Paul tells his Believing Church that they need to stay away from worshiping idols and sacrificing food to them ----as they cannot eat with demons and eat at the Lords table or drink from a cup with demons and still drink from the Lords cup -----

Paul asks----- Are we trying to arouse God's Jealousy -?----that is to say God desires clear Devotion from His Believers and can become upset if they worship other gods or puts anything above Him first ==

Paul wants his Church to know that God can be provoked and He will act ----

Paul asks another Question -----Are we stronger than God ?-----

I am thinking this means ---are we Spiritually Stronger than God ---I am sure their answer was No

The Lord's Supper is more than a mere symbolic act. When we participate in it, we spiritually partake in the body and blood of Christ. This sacrament is a means of grace.

As we eat the bread, we are spiritually participating in the body of Christ, being united with him and with all believers.

When we drink from the cup, we spiritually partake in the sacrificial blood of Christ. This is a true participation in the new covenant of his blood
