So here we see Paul returns to Ephesus ---Remember in last Chapter Paul was leaving this place and said he hoped to return ----well he is back in Ephesus -----

There he meets a group of disciples who only knew and followed the teachings of John the Baptise ----so again like Apollos did before he was told the full event about Jesus he to only had limited spiritual knowledge ----Apollos got Baptised by the Holy Spirit after he gained the full knowledge of the New Covenant and believed it -----

So now these disciples have not been saved yet either as they know nothing about having the indwelling of the Holy Spirit -----they tell Paul ---- “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

I say ----So they heard and knew enough to have the right Faith inbirthed in them by hearing the Scriptures through I would guess the Disciples of John the Baptise who kept preaching on Repentance and Jesus and were Water Baptised ----after John the Baptise was killed ---that just makes sense --

So Paul tells them that they must believe in the one who came after John the Baptise who he taught about who is Jesus ---the Messiah and they accept this and they receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit ---
I say ------Now again Folks --this BELIEF --is a confident ----committed ---trusting and adhering to and obeying belief --not a human belief -----it is a Spiritual belief that relies on the Unseen ------

Unlike an intellectual belief that relies on what you do see ---hear --feel ---taste and touch -----

Verse 5 tells us that
5 After hearing this, they were baptized [again, this time] in the name of the Lord Jesus.

This is from Strong's Concordance forgot to post the link ---sorry

Baptism with the Holy Spirit

John distinguished his ministry from Christ’s: “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire” (Matthew 3:11; Mark 1:8; Luke 3:16; John 1:33

I say ------And as Paul lays Hands on them ---they are Filled with the Holy Spirit and they begin to speak in unknown tongues and prophesied.----this is 2 of the 9 Gifts of the Holy Spirit ---

Verse 6 tells us that -------this is the tongues of fire ------

6 And when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in [unknown] tongues (languages) and prophesying.

I say -----Remember the tongues of fire that came on the 12 Disciples at Pentecost-----the infilling of the Holy Spirit

2 separate events here
for these disciples -----as it was for the Disciples of Jesus ------the indwelling came first -----and the infilling came at Pentecost ---

There were about 12 hat became saved and infilled with the Holy Spirit ---

So the church is growing as more are coming to be inbirthed with Christ's Faith ----and are being equipped to Preach the Good News -----with confidence and power -----

In this verse we see that AMP B put in brackets--- languages -------this is to clarify that these people would be able to preach to others in their native languages -----

There is also an angelic tongue language that people receive as well and when praying in this angelic tongue language --it is a personal language between the person and God ----

1 Corinthians 13:1

Here's a look at Acts 19:6 in all the English translations found on Bible Gateway.

It appears that not all translations agree with the AMP.

Could be that the disciples at Ephesus started speaking other languages of the world.

Could be they were making the ecstatic utterances known as "tongues" or speaking in the language of angels.

The question doesn't seem to be conclusive.

I don't think we can be certain that these disciples at Ephesus began to speak other languages of the world. "Tongues" could refer to ecstatic utterances or the so-called language of angels.

This passage seems to echo the Pentecost experience. Remember when the people thought the believers were drunk on new wine?

[The normative experience of the 120 believers received "tongues (1100 /glṓssa) as of fire" (Ac 2:3) and miraculously spoke in other actual languages, i.e. that they could not speak before (Ac 2:4f). This sign was repeated in Ac 10:46, 19:6 –

I say -----
The Disciples at Pentecost --spoke in actual worldly languages that they did not know before so they could preach the Gospel to all people -- this is the same for Acts 19:6 --

This passage seems to echo the Pentecost experience
and you are right ---They spoke in worldly languages so the people could understand them and they could preach the Gospel in their language ----

Acts 2 --Pentecost ---the same thing is happening in Acts 19:6

Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.

6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken.

7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?

8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?

9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome

11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!”

12 and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”

In that case @unsafe where does the language of angels show up in the NT?

Haven't you told us that you personally have a prayer language and speak in tongues?

You have never given me the impression that you have the gift of speaking the language of another nation.

Yes -I do have the gift of tongues ----and I pray in tongues to God not to mankind ----my prayer language is for me and God ----so no interpretation is necessary ----while the interpretation is necessary in a church setting ------and that what Paul is saying that having tongues with no interpretation is like a gong --as no one would understand what was being said ---it would be of no use ----

Personally I have no idea of what language I am praying in ----all I know is that it is very powerful and gives me great peace and sometimes I will cry while I am praying in this language ----and when I am done praying --it is a heavenly feeling ---so joyful --so peaceful so unburdened ----it is an amazing feeling ---

My take on the heavenly language

The Holy Spirit prays for us when we don't know how to Pray for a situation or person ---- holy Spirit intervenes and prays for us

Romans 8:26-27 AMP

Our Victory in Christ

26 n the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words.

27 And He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because the Spirit intercedes [before God] on behalf of God’s people in accordance with God’s will.

Lexical Summary
stenazó: To groan, to sigh

Romans 8:26), revealing divine partnership in prayer.

Found this from Bible Hub

Biblical References to a Possible Heavenly Language

In 1 Corinthians 13:1, Paul contrasts love with “the tongues of men and of angels.” Some interpret Paul’s phrasing to suggest two categories of languages: known human dialects and a form of speech used by angels. Additionally, 2 Corinthians 12:4 speaks of Paul hearing “inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell.” Although Paul never labels these “inexpressible things” as a specific heavenly language, the passage indicates that there may be divine-favored communication beyond human articulation.

Similarly, Romans 8:26 affirms that the Holy Spirit helps believers in prayer through “groanings too deep for words.” While this does not confirm a distinct heavenly dialect, it does point to a supernatural element in prayer that is not confined by human vocabulary.

Thanks for your helpful response @unsafe.

I am still not convinced that Acts 2 and Acts 19 are necessarily identical when it comes to speaking in tongues. But they could be.

Acts 19:8-10
Paul speaks boldly in the synagogue at Ephesus for three months. Many are convinced about the kingdom of God but some are stubborn and refuse to believe.

Paul leaves and takes the disciples with him to Tyrannus. He speaks every day in the lecture hall for two years. All who live in the region of Asia, both Jews and Greeks, hear the word of the Lord.

Once again, we see Paul move on when the time is right. He seems to have impeccable timing.

So in these verses today ----we see Paul enters the synagogue and speaks out ---How??

The NET says Fearlessly ---Amp says Boldly ----for 3 Months --# 3 -which Spiritually means divine completeness ---perfection and wholeness

Greek word for Boldly
Lexical Summary
tolmaó: To dare, to be bold, to have courage , not to dread or shun through fear:

So both translations are saying the same thing ---just using different words ----which in the Greek mean the same thing ------both give the same message ----

I say -----We see that Paul had to try and convince them about the Kingdom of God -----

This is a reflection for today as well as Ministers today should be trying to convince people about the availability of a New eternal life in God's Kingdom --instead of spouting out False Doctrine -----

But we see Paul's efforts fall on deaf ears and a hardened hearts to the unbelievers ---they refuse the message ---Spiritually deaf and Spiritually Blinded -----

We need to look at verse 9---in NET and AMP

NET ----translation verse 9
9 But when some were stubborn and refused to believe, reviling the Way before the congregation

So the word reviling here in the Greek means------
Lexical Summary--- loidoreó: To revile, to abuse, to insult ---
I say
-----So Some were hurling insults as to the WAY -------

So if you were just reading the Logos and new to Scripture ---would the person be knowing what the WAY --was referring to ----or would they be confused as to what the WAY here was referring to --

-My Guess is ------they would not know what the WAY --was referring to --------

So this translation does nothing to tell you or explain what the WAY is exactly ------they put this in the Study notes below ----
The Way refers to the Christian movement (Christianity).

I say -----Well not really ---the Way --is they Way of Following Jesus ----not Christianity the Religion or a Christian movement ----The WAY is a way of Life by Following and obeying Jesus who is the WORD ---No mention of Jesus in the Christian movement here ------

The AMP BIBLE ----Verse 9 says this
9 But when some were becoming hardened and disobedient [to the word of God], discrediting and speaking evil of the Way (Jesus, Christianity) before the congregation,

This Translation Clarifies and Amplifies Who the WAY is (Jesus )who Provided the WAY for us to follow and then Christianity is there ----which of course is a Man made term and has been totally distorted and misused today ---

I say ------We see Paul gets fed up and leaves and takes his Disciples with him and has daily discussions in the lecture hall of Tyrannus [instead of in the synagogue].

Who was Tyrannus in the Bible? | GotQuestions.org -------read all for yourselves if interested

Who was Tyrannus in the Bible?

Tyrannus was the owner of a lecture hall or school in Ephesus. He is mentioned only once in Scripture, in conjunction with Paul’s ministry in Ephesus during his third missionary journey.

Verse 10 speaks for itself

10 This continued for two years, so that all the inhabitants of [the west coast province of] Asia [Minor], Jews as well as Greeks, heard the word of the Lord [concerning eternal salvation through faith in Christ].

It seems Paul was successful his second time Around in Ephesus ---

AI Overview

Apostle Paul spent over three years in Ephesus, a major city in Asia Minor, on his third missionary journey,
preaching the Gospel and establishing a significant Christian community. His ministry involved teaching in the synagogue and then daily in the school of Tyrannus, leading to many conversions and the manifestation of powerful spiritual gifts and miracles,

Once again, we see Paul move on when the time is right. He seems to have impeccable timing.
When the story is told in hindsight timing can often seem impeccable. Though there is a strand in Scripture (both Jewish and Christian) to include the stories where the 'heroes' are definitely fallible so it is hard to know how much cleaning of the story might have happened

What people I think need to understand about God's Book the Bible ----is that different translations may use different words or phrases but every translation of God's Book that says it is God's inspired word has to put out the same message ---regardless of the wording -----or the Book is a fraud ----

From Genesis to Revelation is about Jesus ----that is the Central message -----and all True Bibles will never veer from that Message--no matter how it is translated ----

The Old Testament is Jesus concealed that is-- he is out of sight -but working ---The New Testament is Jesus revealed -----visible for a time working and then out of sight again but working -----

AI Overview

Yes, the Bible's central message from beginning to end is
Jesus Christ, presented as the fulfillment of God's plan to redeem humanity and restore creation through His life, death, and resurrection. The Old Testament foreshadows the coming Savior, while the New Testament reveals Jesus as the promised Messiah who provides salvation from sin for all who believe.
From Genesis to Revelation

  • Genesis:The story begins with creation, followed by humanity's fall into sin. Even in this early stage, there are promises and patterns (types) that point to Christ, such as the prophecy of a descendant who will crush the serpent's head (Genesis 3:15).
  • Old Testament:The rest of the Old Testament develops God's relationship with His people through covenants, prophecies, and symbols, all pointing toward a coming Redeemer and Savior.
  • New Testament:The Gospels describe the fulfillment of these promises in Jesus, His ministry, miracles, teachings, and ultimate sacrifice. His resurrection and the subsequent empowering work of the Holy Spirit are also central.
  • Revelation:The Bible culminates with the promise of Christ's triumphant return to consummate all things, bringing about a renewed heaven and earth where His redemption is fully realized.
Key Themes

  • Salvation through Christ:The Bible's core message is God's love and desire to save humanity from sin through Jesus Christ.
  • Redemption:It tells the story of God's sovereign plan to redeem humanity and restore all creation to its original purpose.
  • Jesus as the fulfillment:Throughout the Scriptures, figures, events, and prophecies serve as a prelude to the coming of Christ, who is the ultimate fulfillment of God's plan.

Once again, we see Paul move on when the time is right. He seems to have impeccable timing.
You are right here -----Paul heeds to the prompting of the Holy Spirit when He is told to wait as he knows that God's timing is perfect and all will turn out well in the end when he adheres to the call to wait ---

This is the same today for true Christians ----the Holy Spirit can and does prompt people to wait and not act right away on our human whim ----some will listen and some won't ----and their outcomes will reflect their decision ----

I knew a Minister a few years back who was ask to speak at a conference and when he went to get in his car the Holy Spirit told him to wait 5 min ----he did wait and when he went back to his car he was prompted again to wait 5 more minutes and he was going to be late for the conference ----so he didn't wait --he left and ended up in a car accident and was severely injured ----- and never made it to the convention he was to speak at in the end -----

The Holy Spirit knows what is going on ahead of us we don't -----

And unbelievers also experience a prompting ---they can get a very uneasy feeling in the pit of their Stomach when timing is not right to take action or advance -----

All depends on if we listen to the promptings or we ignore them what the outcome is

It could be that Paul is guided by the Holy Spirit on his missionary journeys. I imagine this is what the author of Luke/ Acts hopes to convey.

Or it could be that Paul is shrewd enough to do a cost/ benefit analysis and move on when the personal risk to him is too great.

Or is he simply doing as Jesus suggested and shaking the dust off his sandals at the right moment? This option would give us a Paul with much wisdom.

I agree with this statement -----(y)

Or it could be that Paul is shrewd enough to do a cost/ benefit analysis and move on when the personal risk to him is too great.
Well he might be ----but he doesn't know himself what lies a head of him ----so he could be jumping into a deeper hole by relying on his own instincts --and getting himself in deeper trouble then what he is trying to escape from -----risky business on our own power ----

Or is he simply doing as Jesus suggested and shaking the dust off his sandals at the right moment? This option would give us a Paul with much wisdom.

Well this could be -----but who is supplying the wisdom is the question -----God says human wisdom is foolish and snares the person ----1 Corinthians 3:19

Whose wisdom is better ?

The anti-semitism of this book is all pervasive, and AI and the AMP translation make it glaringly evident.
