About -24 here. Breakfast includes bacon, egg, and pancakes for energy to keep warm. Hope to do sone snow shoeing and carpentry later. Bought a beautiful, used door yesterday for the sewing room. It is 1/2" inch too wide so I need to trim off a slice along the back edge. I would have liked warmer weather for doing this

Good morning. Yesterday brought a snowfall warning as the day was ending. Morning brought a cancellation of the warning and no extra snow. I spent a lot of yesterday "knitting" a sleeve. On Monday I discovered that I hadn't followed the directions properly so I had to rip out about 3". I got that sorted out and then realized I had started at the wrong spot so had to "unknit" about four rows. I think I'm on track. We'll see what the day brings.

I've pulled out my basket & binder of seeds today & set up my seeding chart for the coming season. Browsed the seed catalogue & managed to find just a couple of new 'must haves' to try this season :-) Fortunately I have most seeds of what I will start, so not too many purchases at this point. I did however put 2 kinds of perennial wildflower seeds into moist cold stratification in the fridge - where they will stay for 6-8 weeks. First time doing that. I have to call the teacher at the school garden to see what their plans are this season & if I need to get anything started for them too. Good task for a cold but sunny day.

I plan to meet with a local consultant this spring to fine tune my garden plans. The soil varies a great deal around the yard. Previous owners added lots of black dirt to make the gardens that came with the house. I would like to have a small food forest or three if feasible and worthwhile.

Oh, just do it in the living room..

Does anybody has a recommendation how to prevent the inside of the windshield to be covered with ice? I put a blanket over the outside, but scraping is really difficult on the inside.

Make sure the windshield is warm when you park the car, open one or two windows a little, and run the fan on high to replace the moist inside air with fresh air.

Many cars have a setting to recirculate the air in the car to improve efficiency of heating or cooling. Make sure that is turned off. On our car it is a button with two arrows making a circle. Keep it off in cold weather because it allows moisture to build up in the car.

Some cars like an Impala we had have air intakes in front of the windshield under the back edge of the hood that can ice up in snowy conditions on long drives as we learned the hard way one really snowy day.

And on days when the temperature drops a long ways, the windshield still ices up on the inside. All you can do is idle the car until the windshield warms up enough.

Good morning! Happy Groundhog Day! For knitting frustrations, garden planning, making doors fit into their alloyed space, iced-up windshields, dealing with tech companies, and all the other stuff that happens, we're here for you. The Coffee Cart is ready, help yourself.

I've never tried this, but I read somewhere that if you have a spray bottle filled with 2 parts water and 1 part rubbing alcohol, spray it on a frosted windshield and wipe it off, ice and frost will disappear. Anyone ever try this?

At really cold temperatures, maybe less water.

Just recalling the old VW cars and vans we had back in our younger days. He drove, the passenger kept scraping ice off the windshield! Useful to keep the passenger moving so they didn't freeze to death with all the heat seeming to go to the driver's side of the car.

The bagels are fresh out of the oven. I put out some cream cheese and a choice of home made jam as well. Go to it folks!

Perhaps this is similar to winter windshield washer fluid? I suppose the key would be to dry it well.

Been there done that!!! LOL Cars of our misbegotten youth. One of ours had a layer of ice on the floor too - man did our feet ever get cold!! But scraping the windows inside kept us generating body heat elsewhere!

Thanks for the windshield tips! By the time I got to work, the scraped off “ snow” on my dash hadn’t even melted. So it likely wasn’t evaporate through the open window. But I will keep it in mind. It warmed up to -3 and the sun took care of the windows. Tomorrow night we will be having -30 with windchill -43 for about 24 hrs. I will likely stay in bed….hope the cat will join me, she is such a good warming cushion.
