I enjoyed the story. The time as a dollar farm reminded me of driving through southern Ontario in 1980) and lamenting seeing many fields left to go wild, some of the best farm land in Canada. I do not understand the economics of not maintaining farmland just because the focus is on another function. Farming of some sort can be done on land used for a solar farm. It is close to sinful in my eyes.

Now that generally warmer weather is here, I have been lengthening my walks. Today I walked as far as the park on the near edge of Hawkesbury. It is a brushy area with trails between Main Street and the river. It reminded me of a similar kind of space near where I lived growing up in Calgary, Beaver Dam Flats. A perfect place for teens to explore.

It was very hard to watch the topsoil come off those fields before they put the solar panels on it. Dad had spent so many years building up the soil, tile draining, fertilizing...and then to watch such an act as soil removal. I shared the story on my Facebook page, and many people speak of their fond memories of that farm. My response: It attracted a lot of good people. So many good times, hard-working times, tense times...so much life on that farm.

I agree jimkenney12 about the sad neglect of good farm land, or turning it into parking lots of building sites. But the farmers are like church goers...seem to be aging and disappearing. Thank goodness for the Mennonites up here...They're doing a great job.

Good morning! Happy Second Sunday of Easter! As we read stories of others, and misuse of farmland, let us gather round the coffee cart for support, conversation, discussion of ideas, and hot beverages (not necessarily in that order).

Good Monday morn, all! The little coffee cart who said 'I think I can, I think I can' indeed actually can. The coffee cart is ready, come and get it.

Does denial and elimination play a part in making Room for All ... and thus the powers put out de lights ... and there God stirred ... and a spark of sentient nature burst out as a fuzzy character development ... few understood as fear of psyche was intense! That sol ... sometimes labelled goyem! The dirt on humanity ... let it be resolved ... and some dipping and immersion was encountered ... that's Mole ah? Schrewd ...

If one looks up at night why are there wee sparks? Well sometimes if it isn't clouded up there ... playing Misty! Is there a point to such gamma ... that's Greek darkness! Stuff forgotten ...

After hard physical labour in the yard, a snack and beverage is much appreciated. A second afternoon nap might also be in order.

After hard physical labour in the yard,
This is me yesterday. Planting a new cedar in the afternoon, then still did my regular housework in the evening. Was rather stiff and achy by bedtime and didn't sleep well. Better today (other than a bit sleepy).

I got mesclun in a window box, peas, radishes and swiss chard in the raised bed today. Skyped with my sis for 1.5 hrs , as the funeral will be on Thursday. Progressed on the kitchen spring cleaning.
Baked scones one-handedly yesterday and they actually turned out well ( shredding the butter into the dough, I think was something I never did before, this didn’t work well until now.Cranberry choco chip scones. Ah, I had too many of them, warm and crunchy.

Well, I wish I had not had that fall a few weeks ago. It has forced me into some "adulting", healthwise, and I'm not liking the results. I have high BP (and I now have drugs and a monitor I have to use every day), my blood work was crap - I am pre-diabetic and have high "bad" cholesterol. I'm the spitting image of my Dad, and he had all these problems, but I always blamed most of them on his prednisone dependency (lifetime bad asthmatic). So, now I either co-operate, or disappear, and the latter is an attractive-looking option.

Sounds rather like me except the high LDL. My total cholesterol is so low that my LDL isn't high, but the ratio of HDL (good) cholesterol to total cholesterol is perpetually iffy. The problem is that there are no drugs to raise HDL, only to lower total and LDL (which are already low), so I just have to try eat right and hope that works.

Yes, my diet is a huge problem these days. Since Dave died, I've had no-one to cook for, ever, and I can't be bothered for me. So a lot of tea and toast, and a lot of microwaved dinners and canned soup. Far too high in bad fats and sodium. I need a Chinese husband who cooks, I'm thinking.

Good morning! How is everyone? (or maybe I shouldn't ask) Yardwork and health issues seem to abound. For these and other topics of import, the coffee cart is ready to facilitate your discussions. All is ready.

Not asking fills the bill for how some wills go ... and the unknown grows ... thus teachers and Rabbis ... not knowing is prized! Trance-like states ...
