Room For All

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

I eat over my keyboard, plus I have an electronics killing cat (a very fat cat with extremely fine ragdoll hair) so I have continuous problems with stuck keys. A fine bladed knife, plus a can of compresssed air will fix a variety of problems.

My Mom and I joined a 4-week program (meets once a week) called "10,000 steps", put on my our local Health Unit. Although the leaders don't tell us we have to do that many steps a day, they want us to be trying to increase our physical activity. I discovered that I regularly walk at least 11,000 steps, and I don't put the pedometer on right away in the morning, and I take it off about an hour or so before I go to bed. No wonder I have some stiff joints sometimes! Mom's goal is to walk 4,000 steps a day...Sometimes she got in only 2,000. My husband and I take turns taking her out to walk at indoor tracks. She is enjoying the challenge. (She's 83, and still very, very with-it, more so than me much of the time!).

Which brings me to a thought: would be there interest in a thread on WC2 (in Social, I guess) where folks can post their scribblings, poetic or otherwise? I'd say the thread rules would be no commentary or criticism in the thread, though there could be a parallel thread for that.

I decided to run with this. The thread is in Pop & Chips rather than Social. Art is culture and that's our culture forum, so it seemed right.

I am at Five Oaks this weekend, volunteering at a large hosted event to be the on-site host. For this weekend that means: be here for emergencies, be as quiet as possible, let them go about their own business.

Write some poetry to post. That's quiet as long as you don't read it out loud. And it's not Vogon poetry.

What group are you hosting? Is Five Oaks rentable by non-UCCanada groups?

Hah, I have been doing my Five Oaks Members' Working Group work. Worked on a registration page, entering leaders, bio's etc for an event related to the 500th anniversary of Luther: http://lutheranreformation.org/
Then, met with the volunteer who handles donations and financial activities. She is wonderful and we adressed some issues and came up with a plan to make things clearer.
I am trying to get a handle on the bookings process, contracts, etc, so nice quiet time to focus on these items.

Had a great afternoon of 'armchair adventuring' - we went to the Banff Mountain Film Festival - showing at the Ted Rogers Hot Docs theatre on Bloor. Excellent assortment of outdoor adventuring docs today - I enjoyed every one of them! They are having four screenings this year at the Toronto location (all sold out) - each with different films :-)

I'm definitely going to watch for tickets for next year's event. They tour a variety of Canadian (and US & International) cities - you can check here to see if there will be a showing near you - https://www.banffcentre.ca/banffmountainfestival/tour

Different subject - I thought we had a knitting thread - but perhaps we were just posting here. Anyway ... I had a fun time this afternoon with my friend & knitting mentor who came to show me how to block a cowl I recently finished knitting. It's got a "lace" border - my first time knitting lace :-) which needed lots of careful attention! But I did it! Here's a pic of a portion of it. Now I have to wait for it to dry so I can wear it proudly. It's good to stretch a bit and do new things, IMO.

This belongs in the WonderArt thread, in my estimation...
