I don't care much for the light fruitcake but the dark soaked in rum I love.

Reading this thread, I'm remembering the first turkey I cooked for Christmas...I left the bag inside the turkey and of course no dressing.....big laugh from everyone as it was carved at the table. Who knew.....lol?

I used to work with someone who would always bake a rum cake for special occasions. The recipe came from the Bacardi rum folks and it was delicious

You don't like lutefiske? A colleague shared a story from when he was in Africa with CUSO. At Christmas, some Scandinavian nurses received a package trom home. When they opened their treat, everyone else left.
LOL. Having just been in Scandinavia earlier this year, I know exactly what you're talking about.

Had to have my beloved dog put down this morning. She'd turned 15 a couple of months ago, and she was not a small dog. I think she had a stroke in the night, couldn't use her back legs. Vet thought euthanasia was the best "quality of life" option. My heart is broken, I have lost my best friend.

Some of Mr Curler's relatives went to Sweden to meet with the extended family. They were anxious for a taste of 'real' lutefisk. The Swedish relatives reacted with horror and pointed out that they were a modern nation and put fresh fish in the freezer!

Just came home from a church council meeting. Overall these meetings are quite good and people get along. Of course as with any organization, there will be issues that need to be addressed. They aren't horrible. They aren't nearly as stressful as when I was on a church board in the past.

Yeah, church council meetings were never terribly exciting or stressful in my days in the UU fellowship. Congregational meetings, on the other hand, could get pretty heated. The fur metaphorically flew at a couple I attended.

Grrrrrr. The unimaginative bank folks in head office have said there has to be proof of probate before the money can be released. Our lawyer had given a letter stating why that is not the case. And yet they are standing firm. My sister and I talked on the phone. We developed a plan to address this. She will be on the warpath tomorrow. :)
