Random thoughts about whatever

Actually, I think some simple human food like tinned fish, e.g. basic white tuna, might be cheaper than a lot of cat food nowadays but I haven't compared in a long time. Wife doesn't like fur around the house so I don't have a cat. Though a local nomadic one hangs out in my yard sometimes.

There are also food insecure non cat owners that buy tins of cat food for their own consumption is what prompted that random thought.
That idea was widely assumed and widely propagated in the 70s in the US - to shame poor people more than anything. There may be some who eat cat food or have had to. I don’t think there are as many as suggested. Most would try to come up with anything else. Food insecure people, nowadays, tend to buy from the dollar store where I live - there’s a lot of junk food but also soups, beans, noodles, tuna. And they visit community kitchens and such. At one dollar store, every individual item is $1.75.

Make sense. I tend to forget dollar stores have food items other than snacks since I tend to be looking for other things when I visit them (e.g. a kind of hand wipe Mrs. M likes that is sometimes available in them).

They’ve got decent brands at a few. Dollarama is more like the $2-5 store but still has decent stuff. Brand name dry goods, juice and soups, cereal, salad dressing etc good quality soaps and detergents and bathroom stuff. But also lots of candy and junk food - hence the twinkies. First time in ages I’ve had one, can’t remember when, be fair to myself.
A couple of things are half the price they are at the nearby supermarket.
