This is interesting. I wondered how long it would take for someone with enough credibility to come out and say “This isn’t actually women’s empowerment. It’s just more of the ol’ boys club and advertising industry doing their thing, because they could.”

I’m not sure what you mean? It’s documenting recent history and trends. They can make a documentary about whatever they want - and chronicling troublesome branding and the resulting social/ cultural expectations and problems for a generation, is relevant. IMO

They’re not there to make an infomercial for what Victoria’s Secret is doing now. Is that what you meant?
 
If something is buried does it not cause a mystery and considerable curios?

Imagine the digging in the back yard ... based on propaganda and rumour with little evidence ... consider this inde light!

Therefore inductees to the matter of etude of immaterial items previously unseen ... thus dark stuff ... often political!

Workings of the odd psyche ... a frightening thing that actually isn't it just appears that way ...

Will something come 've it? That's the power of myth and looking further ...

I think she means about the current situation, not the past. However, that past is quite important given the involvement of Jeffrey Epstein, a known sex trafficker, and the problems raised are endemic in the fashion business, or so I have heard elsewhere.

The rich and well connected in NY “who’s who” at the time seem to be in that circle, including him apparently. I haven’t watched it. It doesn’t surprise me that Epstein was part of that or if it was horribly corrupt and sleazy though - or if that circle was driving cultural norms in our entire society.

It looks like the film was less about him in particular - maybe his name in the heading and role in the story is kind of click bait - and more about the cultural norms that resulted. I would have to see the whole documentary.

There’s been a movie - quite a bit lighter dramedy - called “The Devil Wears Prada”. You get a sense from that, even, that people involved high up in fashion industry aren’t nice people, and know that they have power to exploit people. Seems like a very toxic industry, but for a long time, that toxicity was a given. Like, “that’s just the way it is”. Maybe the film is an attempt to undo some of that, to change the culture into something less toxic.

I know someone who got involved in modelling young, and from what I remember, it wasn’t nice - girls, high school drop outs and others, crammed together in foreign apartments in foreign countries, sent by agencies. Older men looking them over, deciding if they’re “adequate” for the jobs. That would’ve been late 80s. Granted, she was happy to get to travel at the time, but there was a predatory element in it.

@Kimmio Laughterlove hopefully here is a good place. By coverup I mean when Shando was pulling my power is bigger BS with Sohi with the Police Act threat RCMP and EPS were both totally silent about everything leading up, the call made by the relative, the threats, multiple bail violations that he was dropped of in Edmonton which was against what his parole conditions were. Then EPS wasn't even clear what their role was saying they interacted with him days before when they actually hadn't.

Maybe coverup is an exaggeration but when Sohi and rest of council is dealing with the province threatening to take over jurisdiction of the police particularly when council and police aren't seeing eye to eye on multiple issues both RCMP and EPS not informing the government's of the leading events was a problem.

A timeline of events shows that it would have been extremely likely that Chief Dale McFee knew that his officers could have taken Justin Bone off the street before the murders of Hung Trang and Ban Phuc Hoang throughout much of the police budget debate.

The Edmonton Police were very likely aware of all these details, yet they used the story in the most cynical way possible: as leverage to put pressure on Edmonton city council to increase their budget.

A timeline of events shows that it would have been extremely likely that Chief Dale McFee knew these details throughout much of the debate yet chose not to tell the public or city council. If he didn't know then he was incompetent. Either way, it's a gross dereliction of his duty.
 
Corruption ... what is it so thin and ethereal so one looks right through it?

Abuse is as normal as absolutes that do not believe in the abstract as it is close to oblivion! Imagine wasted psyches ... shrunk up to nothing as a diminished emotional state ... allowing for nothing being out there ... it just is!

Tis a dark an unseen state as mysterious power that can get some people really ranting ... just look what a mistress can do in a house! Hoe I know too well ... well polished ... going around breaking crusts ... just for the cotton ...

I have seen management tell the nurses, after it's been reported to them, tell nursing staff to "let them handle it".
The nurse you mentioned will have this on her record, the PSW wont. There is no regulatory body for PSW's, so they can just get another job if they are fired without giving their prior job as a reference.
 
Just thinking. Empire and/ or colonialism is like this:

And the irony is not lost on me that there is rising fascism in Italy. A far right politician in the running who happens to be female (not the win for women’s equality that people might think it is) is very far right. I think that’s the clearly bad intentions road leading to Rome.
 
My theme for my preaching starting on July 17 is catastrophes are coming and the most important thing we can do is build strong, resilient communities to help each other come out the other side of those catastrophes.

Much of the wealth of the rich is paper. They will depend on many others to survive and those in charge of security may ask why not see the wealthy person as an unneeded middleman to the residue of that wealth.

If the government of India decided to nationalize the land purchased by Bill Gates, there would be little he could do about it.

We will come out the other side and probably in different ways in different parts of the country and the world.
