I thought he started to lose his songwriting mojo in the 80’s, but I was wrong.

I find that every time I think that of Paul, he comes around and surprises me. While there are times when I wish he would just retire or settle for being a nostalgia act, when he releases material this good, I take it back pretty quickly and start thinking he'll be another Cohen and "die with his boots on".

I am no longer sure when I first heard "White Winter Hymnal" by Fleet Foxes. It's a lovely song that has been covered by many artists, often for Christmas albums though it is really a general purpose winter song, not a Christmas song. This choral version has been in my YouTube recommendations for a while and I finally gave it a go. They use the Pentatonix setting from a few years back but it sounds very different in the voices of this all girl junior choir.

Just released last night as the New Horizons spacecraft made its final approach to the Kuiper Belt object 2014 MU69, aka Ultima Thule, a tribute to the mission by Queen guitarist Brian May.

He is also an astrophysicist with a PHD.

I somehow made my way from Avril Levigne’s latest (she’s not bad, she’s expanding her style), to this! I was skeptical, but O-M-G. Definitely a random, and fantastic, act of music! The singer is from Khazikstan, and their vocal range is phenomenal. The artists full name is very long but, goes by Dimash.

Mark Knopfler isn't heard much these days, but he is arguably one of the best songwriters of his generation. "Brothers in Arms" is a case in point. Here, it is sung beautifully and powerfully by Joan Baez.

For comparison, here's Knopfler himself singing. Vocally, Joan wins hands down. Her pipes are magnificent. But there are few alive today who can top Mark on guitar. Eric Clapton may be the only one. Possibly Dave Gilmour or Steve Howe.

From her recent appearance on Live From Here, Rachael Price once again showing off her magnificent voice.

CBC has been releasing a video series called Juno 365 featuring contemporary bands and singers performing past Juno winning songs. The other day, they released a cover of the Tragically Hip classic Bobcaygeon by a band called Midnight Shine that is new to me. From what I have found, the band is comprised of four indigenous musicians and has been around since 2013.

This video for their mixed English and Cree version of the Neil Young classic Heart of Gold was shot on the Attiwapiskat First Nation in Ontario where frontman Adrian Sutherland grew up.

And the video that first brought them to my attention.

This is from “way back” in 2009. She definitely has a gift, from dad..can hear the similarities in both songs...but she’s been a loner not interested in her parents’ money or fame - recording her own music, and playing impromptu gigs in unlikely places London hair salons...which was how she got signed (Daddy didn’t set her up with his connections).

A few of Sting’s kids are musicians. He has several kids.

Wow. This is Eliot Paulina “Coco” Sumner. One of Sting’s 3 daughters. I found her eventually because I couldn’t remember Sting’s real name.

I think if I heard this cold, I would think it was her Dad or at least someone trying to emulate him. She even looks like a young Sting with long hair. Love the song, too. Another musical family in the making, it appears.

She is talented, sounds and looks a lot like her dad! Yet, also, one of those people who is just androgenously/ non binarily gorgeous, no matter what gender she identifies with.

I fell in love with I Drove All Night from the first time I heard it. There are at least three major versions that I recall, Cyndi Lauper, Roy Orbison, and Celine Dion.

Cyndi's came our first but Roy's was actually recorded first. However it didn't make the cut for Mystery Girl, the last album completed before his death. It finally came out on a final compilation album a few years later. I love both of these versions. No offense to Celine intended, but she's a distant second to these two in this case.

Here's Cyndi Lauper from a 2004 live album.
