Wondercafe2.ca offers a decent selection of options in your profile, including options about alerts and ways to keep your profile more private. Please note that when I explain the privacy options, it is how you are viewed to other members or visitors to the site. Admins and mods can see more than other members.

Members have two different profile types that other members can view. One is a popup that shows up when someone clicks your name from the forums. I will be referring to this as the Profile Box. The other is much more detailed, and can be accessed by others from the profile box, or if someone clicks on your name from the members section. This more detailed information is the Profile Page.

You have the ability to control who can see your Profile Page, which is explained more below.
Your Profile Box can be viewed by everyone, regardless of your privacy settings.

To open your profile settings, click your user name at the top right hand corner. This will take you to Personal Details. More information about this can be found below.

Once on your profile page, you may navigate to various options by clicking on the options on the bar to the left. Note, you can also access these by hovering over your user name at the top right hand corner, and then clicking the appropriate profile area heading.

There is some overlap between the sections, for example you can control who can send you conversations in both Contact Details and Privacy. Changing you setting under one section is sufficient, once the change is made it will appear the same in other sections as well.

Personal Details

This is where you can share some information about yourself.

Status message - share what's on your mind, how you're doing, etc.
This will show up on your profile information page as wells as the profile box.
*Note - this will be visible to everyone, it cannot be hidden

Avatar - the image that shows up along with your posts
*Note - this will be visible to everyone, it cannot be hidden

Gender - if male or female is selected the selection will show up on your profile box, regardless of your privacy settings.

The remaining fields will only appear on your Profile Page.

Signature

A signature will appear below all of your posts, both in forums and conversations. This applies to both old and new posts. Some members may choose to not see signatures.

To make or change your signature, type in the box and hit the red Save Changes button.

Contact Details

If you wish to change the email address you can do so here. You need an account that an admin can reach you with, if necessary.

Messaging Preferences:

Receive site mailings - if you select this you will receive and email if an admin sends a mass message to members of the site
Accept conversations from... You can choose to accept conversations (private messages) from anyone who has an account (members only), or only people who choose to follow you.
Receive email when a new conversation message is received - if you select this option you will receive an email whenever someone sends you a conversation or replies to an ongoing conversation.

Identities
This allows you to share your contact information from other social media sites. You can choose who sees this information in the privacy section.

Privacy

There are quite a few options to limit what people can see about you. These privacy settings may not apply to admins and mods.
*Note - you must hit the red Save Changes button at the bottom to activate any changes to your privacy settings.

Show your online status - if this box is selected, your name will be listed when you are online and people can find out what page you were last on. If you unselect this box, you will just be listed as an online member when you are signed in; your name will not be listed, and details about what page you are viewing will not be published.

Receive site mailings - if you check this box, you will be able to receive emails that the admins send to all of the members.

Date of Birth - You have the option to just show the day or month, or the day month and year. This will only be visible on your profile page if you choose to show it.

People Who May...
Edit Your Personal Details - There are three different aspects of your information that you may control here. Visitors include anyone who is viewing the site, even if they have not signed up. Members are people who do have an account.
View your details on your profile page: - This controls who can see your profile page.
Post messages on your profile page: - There is a section that allows people to post messages on your page, anyone who can see your profile page can also see these messages.
Receive your news feed: When someone follows you, your activity will show up on their newsfeed if they are included in the option you select here.

Edit your Contact Details... - You can control who sends you a Conversation (a private message), and who can view your identities (ie. information listed under the contact details heading such as social networks). Visitors include anyone who is viewing the site, even if they have not signed up. Members are people who do have an account.

Preferences

*Note: On this page, to activate any of the changes you make, you must click the red Save Changes button near the bottom after changing any setting.

Style: This is how WC2 will look. Currently, there are 3 options, select from the drop down menu . WonderCafe2 uses shades of grey and Default Style has a blue and white background. WonderCafe2Large is similar to WonderCafe2, but all of the posts will appear in a larger font size.

Locale Timezone: Selecting the appropriate timezone will make the timestamps match your time. Select your timezone from the drop down menu.

Options:
Automatically watch threads that you create or when you reply.. - this will put threads onto your watched list, and will give you alerts of new posts if you have this set.

and receive email notifications of replies - you will get an email any time someone posts in a thread that you have already posted in. This can create numerous emails if you're fairly active on the boards.

Use the rich text editor to create and edit messages - Selecting this option gives icons at the top of your reply box to do things like change the font and many of the icons mentioned in Posting Options. If you do not select this option, your reply box is just a plain, white box.

Use the Flash-based uploader to upload attachments - This effects the way files are to be uploaded when you use the red Upload a File button with a post.

Show people's signatures with their messages - if people choose to have a signature (a message at the end of all of their posts) selecting this options allows you to see it.

Show your online status - if this box is selected, your name will be listed when you are online and people can find out what page you were last on. If you unselect this box, you will just be listed as an online member when you are signed in; your name will not be listed, and details about what page you are viewing will not be published.

Restore dismissed notices - This refers to primarily alerts. If you have dismissed alerts previously, they will be available again if you choose this option.

Alert Preferences

Alerts appear at the top right hand corner, and they help you follow new activity that you are interested in. Clicking Alert will take you to a page with a list, where you can navigate to threads, conversations, etc,

The red Save Changes button near the bottom of the page must be clicked after changing any of these options.

The options are mostly self-explanatory, so I won't go through the list here unless there are questions.

Tags refer to when someone has specifically tried to call your attention by putting a @ symbol in front of your username. For example, if someone wanted to tag me they would put @ChemGal in their response.

People You Follow/People You Ignore

People You Follow: You can choose to follow someone either by typing their name into this section of your profile page and the click red Save Changes button. You can also do this by clicking 'Follow' from a member's profile box or page. Following someone makes it easier to find their posts, and their forum activity will appear in your newsfeed if their privacy settings allow it. Depending on your privacy settings, following someone may allow them to view aspects of your profile or interact with you in ways that other members cannot. If you no longer wish to follow someone, come to this page and click the red Unfollow button beside their name.

People You Ignore: Again, you can choose to ignore someone by typing their name into this section of your profile page or by clicking 'Ignore' from a member's profile box or page. You CANNOT ignore someone that you are currently following. Once you have ignored someone, you will not see their posts. You won't see their started threads either within subforums, but it may appear on the main forum page if it's the most recent within a subforum. If you wish to see their posts again, come to this page and click the Stop Ignoring red button beside their name.
*Note: If you have ignored someone they can still see your posts.

Password

You can change your password. This is highly recommended if an admin supplied you with a password.

To do this, type in your current password, and your new password twice in the appropriate boxes. Click the red Save Changes button.
