Was at the hospital today for tests. Did the double mask - so cloth masks are ok with a disposable over top. I didn't do it for the sake of the double masking but rather the better fit of the cloth masks - ie. no gaping at the sides. With the variants going around I'm not all that comfortable with just the disposable one, even with the ones that fit me slightly better than what they give out.

Screening person insisted on going through question by question, often times the screeners seem happy if you know what they all are. She also wasn't all that happy with my own hand sanitizer although I pointed out my skin (I seem to be having problems with the shampoo that was working for me now too) and she relaxed about that. I would be happy if everywhere had good sanitizer and not use up my own stash so I found that a bit surprising.

I didn't come across many people today, but still, someone in the stairwell with the mask under their nose. Also to pay for parking someone was sitting immediately beside it, I paid on a different level but the area isn't all that crowded surely he (or whoever set him there) could have picked a spot to allow someone to pay for parking with some distance. That was like here over Christmas, schools were open before we were allowed to have outdoor gatherings, even with being spaced out.
Schools are online only here now, but that's just coming up. They've been on a late break this week (usually 2nd week in March but postponed to 2nd week in April in hopes that thing would be better).

That's about to come soon, Calgary did it already and the province decided to stop extracurriculars since the locals already stepped in. Last I looked we were about a 1/3 of the peak at Christmas, for Edmonton. Then we were worse, now Calgary is, plus other areas are being hit harder.

Honestly. Even in normal times that is stupid

things are really going to be locked down in Ontario. I expect we are going to see lots of issues with police and by law people. Stopping you and asking where you are going, why, where you live....... if they gave a limit to how far you can be from home I missed it. But I did hear walking around the block with your dog is ok. And ther was some comment about exercise so I suppose a walk or a jog is too?

it’s scary, frustrating, maddening.

Actually, the Barrie Police have issued a statement that they will NOT be doing random checks on vehicles or pedestrians. But this is the sort of thing that worries me a bit. I often think we've put a little (maybe quite a bit) too much power in the hands of law enforcement, while not encouraging the kind of community building (a more "power with" structure) that things like community participation in earth day clean ups, foot and bike patrols, etc. that we need more of.

It sure does! I get that public health is worried about people congregating in parks. So they said, only with the people you live with. Ok. That’s good. And they could have also said, even outside, you must wear a mask. Particularly as we know now that the virus is spreading not just through droplets so two meters isn’t far enough apart.

and once again, I don’t know why there hasn’t been an effort to either set up a short term provincial sick pay scheme or adjust the federal unworkable scheme

one commentary I read was that the federal scheme is unworkable. You have to apply week by week. You get paid after the fact, which doest work for people who live pay cheque to pay cheque. And you have to apply again, each week.

instead, employers should continue to pay staff as normal and employers should apply to the federal government for sick pay reimbursement. Makes total sense to me

i fear the weeks ahead. I am worried and feel frightened. these are new thoughts for me. Not sure if it’s the facts from yesterday alone or if it’s combined with just frustration and weariness after a year of this.

I sure don't want to have to mask while walking the dog outside. I try very hard to cross the street anytime I approach anyone, and I don't live in a bustling urban environment.

When the police has to worry more about being judged to be racial profiling than enforcing the law, there certainly is a big problem. That could be avoided by: checking everybody- or, if that’s not doable, checking every third, fivth , tenth- or whatever number is doable. voila, no racial profiling. Make sure, that random number is marked somewhere in a protocol.
Publicly declaring that the rules are not going to be enforced is going to make the whole system laughable.
Still wondering why your covid numbers are high?

I'll need more convincing before I start wearing a mask outside in non crowded areas.
Same. I have done it when with my nephews outside, at a small community seed exchange (surprised me but everyone did except a family who didn't plan it they just saw it and stopped by).

I wish they was better details on how people are contracting it. If it comes out people are getting it from being on the sidewalk from random people then I will.

There have been instances of outdoor transmission but so far I have only heard about a few cases of people being together a long time, unmasked that Dr. Hinshaw shared.

Rules can be enforced without stopping people and asking what they are doing.

There are quite a few cases up here that are out down to outside Easter get togethers. And teen drinking in the woods

and they are talking about aerosol transmission which is over a much larger distance

i dont wear a mask when outdoors here but don’t see anyone either. My kids wear masks on the sidewalks in Toronto though

No one with medical credentials (or law enforcement ones for that matter) asked for this. Ford went way overboard in spite of claiming he was listening to his health advisors. Indeed, even some of the outdoor closures like playgrounds are getting criticism from medical authorities. They were actually more concerned about indoor gatherings and large outdoor ones. They are fine with playgrounds as long as supervising parents are distancing and masking.

As of this afternoon, playgrounds are allowed to be open and the policing rules are being "clarified" to remove the random checks. Of course, the government is disingenuously claiming that was not the intent of the new rules even though Ford specifically said it in his address yesterday.

The history of carding in this province is that it has been that it is used primarily to target BIPOC and for that reason, we cannot allow it. Ever.

Once again, we have a government making up laws and policies on the fly without thinking. Ford should be gone as of June 2, 2022 but I fear that if we somehow end up coming out of this okay, he might still manage to squeak out a win as the white suburban crowd decide they like him after all.

But what are the circumstances? Food sharing with common touch points? (Of those at the curling bonspiel the curling wasn't the issue it was the buffet ie. Those not at the buffet part were fine). Distancing? Mask use? Multiple households going inside for food and to use the bathroom?

Teen drinking in the woods likely involves shared containers and kissing.

I do think that stores or any vendors should request proof of residence and not sell to anyone from out of town. Word will travel fast through the grapevines of social media so they'll stay home.
Also, Toronto home buyers, this should be stopped and agents need to stop accepting to show homes in person while this shutdown is underway.

I can't see why people shopping out of area would be happening, though. All of Ontario is under the same restrictions now so travelling out of town won't carry the same benefit it did with the colour system where some areas had more restrictions than others.
