Since its people they know and could more easily trace, even if they did sneak off to a friend's place, that seems better in terms of limiting community transmission, than going to a bar or restaurant to spend New Years.

As for take out and delivery - until 8 pm is more reasonable than not having them open or allowed to sell booze at all. I really don't see how it would make a big difference. People just had to buy their booze at the liquor store before 8. I don't see the big deal.

Restaurant and business associations have enough collective clout that they can take some legal action or appeal to the government for compensation if they feel strongly about it and can prove significant loss from New Years. Thing is, bars and restaurants rake in a lot of extra tax free cash on New Years too - and the unreasonable mark-ups and door charges for the occasion notwithstanding - so I'm not sure they'd win that argument.

I remember the days when no liquor stores were open on Sunday. So if Sunday was New Years Eve, they'd have to plan ahead.
I don't see how picking up food or having it delivered and celebrating at home is riskier than going over to someone else's place. I didn't say a thing about being in the bar or restaurants, it's the delivery/pickup.

The big deal is it's preorders. Gift baskets assembled with NYE treats from local businesses including booze - suddenly needing to alter the timing or else breaking it open, removing the alcohol. Set menus based on pricing with bubbly and toasting flutes. It was planned ahead and then the rules changed with not giving people time to adjust the plans. With the special celebratory packages, especially for this year, NYE is probably the worst night to not give restaurants time to plan for an early cut off.

And why? What's the risk with someone putting a package in a vehicle that includes liquor so a couple can have a nice dinner once the kids are in bed with plans to toast a midnight?

Not my decision. Way way way riskier to have a bunch of people in a restaurant without alcohol than families celebrating in their own homes, with something to toast the new year.

There are limits. No more than 6 to a table and they must be from the same household. Occupancy of the restaurants is reduced to allow for spacing. The expectation was no gatherings in homes over the holidays. Only members of the household were to gather. When I looked at the guidelines it also says bubble so I'm thinking two couples like hubby and I and my sister and brother-in-law could get together. Neither of us has a big social bubble. The provincial medical officer didn't want to see big family gatherings.

Here is the information about BC Guidelines if you're interested. I know you disagree with the NYE liquor sales deadline. It was one night. It's over. I'm done with this discussion. I'm sure the link has the appropriate contact information if you wish to give your feedback.

The provincial medical officer does what medical tyranny dictators tells them to do in order to keep their individual positions of power within the hierachy of control.

Keep believing that....

Is such avarice controllable when out of hand ? It is quite unthinkable to a mass 've folks ... occupied elsewhere! Mine drift ...

Keep believing that....
No need for belief ...

The global lockdown policy promoted by the World Health Organization brought down the world economy and with it untold human suffering ... this is the truth that I understand.

Any thinking individual should have the courage to look within and speak out.

There are actually many scientists, scholars, doctors, politicians, princes and protesters that refuse to become indoctrinated into your magical virus cult.

I am a truth seeker ... your cult leaders are not. Their jobs depend on them not understanding the truth so they follow the leaders and remain willfully ignorant.

Whats your solution? Stop the lockdowns, the mask wearing, etc....and just throw caution to the wind and just let whoever dies or get chronically sick suffer?

Good luck with that.
Blindly following orders is not a solution ... never has been never will be ... history has proved that again and again. Luck has nothing to do with it ... it is all a matter of choice. I choose to look at the big picture ...

Interesting - Loblaws is now publishing a list of all stores across Canada where staff have tested COVID positive. COVID-19 | Loblaw Companies Ltd.

In my region, workplace outbreaks have been an issue apparently - but the region is resisting publishing the names/locations of the businesses. So it's interesting to see Loblaws taking the lead on this. I wonder if other large retailers may follow.

Interesting. Our county is struggling with tourists. And attitude. We need tourists. No question. But we don’t want their disease. Our local loblaws had a few cases. I just wish everyone would stay home

I don't think anyone here is blindly following orders in spite of what you think. I am making informed choices based on different factors. Having a different choice than yours does not mean one is blindly following orders. But stick with your prejudices if it makes you happy.

So that looks like there is no working contact tracing in your Province?
Nova Scotia has updated locations almost daily.
