Novel Coronavirus

And how exactly do you explain the rates of Covid in the USA right now.....who seem to be following your "advice".
I have been over it and over it ... I am not going to put the 'evidence' here anymore to have it removed to a out of the margins thread. Like any other public health crisis ... we were not prepared ... and yet the rich are getting richer and the 'impoverished' are suffering the consequences of what is now a 'testdemic'. If people are still dying and being left untreated due to illnesses in and around caronavirus it is as ever because resources are being funneled into future ventures instead of dealing with the actual 'cases' that need those resources now. Positive Tests do not reflect actual critical care cases. Our health care and long term care facilities were failing long before this new 'event' ... perhaps the focus should be on improving that first. How much money do you think is being made around 'testing' and PPE measures as compared to fixing the actual failing infrastructure. I just keep hearing but the hospitals will be full ... well that has been a problem for quite some time ... it would seem the profit margin around actual health care is not sufficient enough to take the money away from 'research' .

Since I don't see this posted here, yet, some positive news on the vaccine front. As Fauci in the US pointed out, this bodes well for the possibility of a vaccine in general.

That: “Participants were tested only if they developed symptoms, leaving unanswered whether vaccinated people could get infected but show no symptoms and unknowingly spread the virus.”....is a serious flaw. Hopefully they will look into this.

Pilgrims did Australia stop all incoming and outgoing air travel? or any other types of transportation that came from other countries or even from city to city within Australia?
Both Australia and New Zealand -being island countries - have a natural advantage in quarantine matters, particularly useful in a pandemic.
Initially, my own state NSW stuffed up in regard to cruise ships, which brought with it our first wave of the virus.
Lesson learnt. All arrivals by both sea and air had to go into hotel quarantine for two weeks -which has been successful in NSW.

This is where Victoria stuffed up. The quarantine in that state was run by private security firms -who had no training in pandemic health matters. The virus quickly spread into the community- and was a major concern in nursing (care) homes where it was introduced by both visitors and workers - and, like Canada, many elderly vulnerable citizens lost their lives..
Flights have drastically been reduced - and there are still many Australian citizens trying to get home for Christmas. It's expensive - fewer flights, more the airlines can charge. Also, two weeks hotel quarantine costs incoming travellers even more expense.

Still, the federal government hopes to allow 30,000 more arrivals by Christmas.
Internally, it's more relaxed, but I still can't see my family in Queensland.

Have the restrictions been worth it?
When I observe what's happening with the virus in the rest of the world, a resounding yes.
Has there been hardships due to the restrictions? Of course there has.
Freedom is a concept that I believe is often misunderstood. We love the sound of it -but the reality is that none of us - even Donald Trump - can be free to do just what they want whenever they want.
I enjoy many freedoms - but I'm aware many of my fellow citizens are facing the grim freedom of being free to lose their jobs, free to lose their accommodation, free to lose their mental and physical health and free to lose their lives in relation to his pandemic.

One of our problems in North America, and probably in Oz to some degree, is that we have made a bit of a cult of individuality. We complain about Trump's narcissism, but the fact is many in our society value themselves over society to varying degrees. We saw it in Aylmer, Ontario this past weekend. Contrast the East Asian countries and cultures where people accept that sometimes society's needs and protecting the larger community has to override wants and even needs and rights of the individual. Even here in Canada, some Chinese-Canadians returning before any measures regarding travel had been enacted here were quarantining voluntarily with support from others in the Chinese community for grocery deliveries and such (and rather than being thanked, they were chided by the government who thought it was "unnecessary"). They saw protecting their community as more important than their convenience. Yes, I have sources in the Chinese community for that.

Pretty well everyone is aware that positive tests do not necessarily reflect critical care cases.....that's a given....nothing new there.
You think that focusing on improving long term care facilities should be first? Well it doesn't work that way.....you do both at the same time in the midst of a pandemic, because they are BOTH high priority at this point in time. We are dealing with now.

Ok, I think I need to go watch some of the videos for the tracing app. It sounds like the federal app isn't a contract tracing app as everything occurs via the app. the bluetooth connections, one enters a code after positive testing and then alerting.
The ABtracetrogether doesn't do the alerting to the individuals, a phone number is connected (I don't recall if I had to input this, ie. maybe I could have listed my landline number instead of the number for my cell). 2 weeks worth of bluetooth connections are stored on individuals phones, they upload data if testing positive and then all of those who connected to positive upload over a time frame get phoned by the province. The app doesn't do the notifying. That's my current understanding, which may be off.

But if we would have focused on the one before the other arrived ... instead of making it an emergency every time ... imagine that. Stop testing and start treating ... the ones who need treatment first.

But we didn't.....this is now and this is where we are now working from. Reminisce all you want but it doesn't get things done.

Heck, more than these two things can be addressed at once. Binary thinking serves no purpose does it
I was addressing two points that Rita mentioned. But of course problems within nursing homes encompass multiple areas.....in fact having worked in this area for over twenty years I could add multitudes of areas that need addressing that Doug Ford and others have missed....as could others that work in these areas.

Why thankyou Rita.....how intelligent of you to point that out....I bow to your superiority.
Brother!
Why so touchy ... I looked up a word and then clarified the meaning to see if that was your intent. How is that superiority. I look up a lot of words ... because I don't assume to know the meaning of them all ... so instead of getting all incensed about it ... is that what you meant for me to understand ?

I totally agree with your post. My point is that we don't have to stop there. Governments or leaders can do more than two things at a time.

Governments or leaders can do more than two things at a time.
And yet they manage to not do anything at all that benefits anyone else more than themselves. Perhaps they should be made to access the public health service in the same manner as the rest of us and they would start to understand priorities ...

Why do you suppose Doug Ford has missed addressing them for as you say the more than twenty years that you were able to define them? Will Doug Ford ever be subjected to waiting desperately in line for any lack of facility 'areas'.

Where did Robert Ford get rehabilitation for his addiction when he took a 'sabbatical' from politics?

The place is “amazing.” "It’s a real bargain." “It’s worth every dime, every dime,” Ford said.
“A hundred grand is cheap. It’s a steal.”

None of the 'authorities' guiding our every move these days would ever dream of having to follow in kind.

Every person ... Doctor Lawyer Scientist or Politician that refuses to perpetuate the fear mongering that we are being fed is at risk of losing everything they have worked for all of their lives. But by all means 'trust' those that are holding onto their 'power' seats. They have no reason to steer you wrong. Only people that are willing to sacrifice everything ... they are the 'misinformation' cabal.
