Latest headlines in BC say domestic violence is up since everyone's home. Mental health is a big issue. Restrictions expected to continue into the summer. Vancouver Island has had no new cases in a few days - holding, so far, at 67 cases out of 795,000 population - but we have the same restrictions as the rest of BC regardless. Most of the increases on the mainland have been outbreaks at seniors care homes, and now a farm/ garden nursery with live on staff - many temp foreign workers - and the facility is now quarantined.
Oh and now they are looking at using long term care homes as hospital/ recovery spaces in the future...???
It's more likely that they are just NOT moving all COVID 19 residents to hospitals if the DNR they signed covers the outbreak and the POA's or the residents themselves approve. Some will just want to continue with comfort measures only. Probably would just designate some beds away from others for their care within the retirement or nursing home in order to free up ventilators in the hospital. That's ... dumb. I don't know about BC, but our LTC is over capacity at the best of times. Dad was in a temporary residence when he died because none of the homes we requested had spaces and that was more than 5 years ago. Nothing has changed based on what I see from my position in the home care business (we do provide oxygen services in longterm care as well in homes).
You should just close the ferry terminals and only allow shipments of supplies to come across. I know the province likely wouldn't go for it, but it would keep that clean record intact.
Ferry staff live both here and on the mainland. My guess (maybe that info is available I don't remember) is that crew member lived on the mainland.
No they didn't have contact with passengers but they worked aboard the boat.It seems to me the ferry staff member, or a recent staff, was someone who didn't have contact with passengers. For what it's worth. It does seem that BC Ferries is taking reasonable steps to protect their staff and any passengers.
There's no reason to go if one doesn't have to anyway. All the sites and attractions and restaurants etc are closed. It sounds like they are stopping short of doing that. Closing ferry terminals and ending the ferry service would be similar to putting blockades up on roads. The ferries are still essential. They are roads. That being said, there are fewer sailings and in some cases, they are ensuring that trips are essential. People are leaving this park to return to their mainland homes. I've heard stories of a few having to show their trips are essential. Since ridership is way down, it seems people are being sensible and choosing to not sail.

Similar to my mom, staying inside their old house all day. She has a flare up of an ongoing sinus issue she's had for years (she went to her doc and doc says it's that and gave her cortisone spray) so she gets post nasal drip while lying around, too. I get a bit of that overnight too (suite in an old basement) that resolves when I'm up and about - but it's a bit cold - gets windy here - and flowers are out so I get a runny nose sometimes when out riding around (which is my normal). I feel well though.I keep having little mild asthma flareups. Not like an all-day cough, but short bursts with a product cough and tightness or really minor wheezing, especially when doing a flight of stairs or something.
I will start to wonder, oh, is this it? Is this all what I am going to get for symptoms, as that's not typical even for minor colds for me.
No, it's all of Chemguy's little projects! He will clear through stuff that doesn't normally get touched, stirring up dust. I did the same thing in the basement around Christmas, I had the same symtpoms.
I felt like having a word with a customer wearing very heavy perfume today. I had to cough a couple of times during her order and the one after, and I feel awful about it, and I don't know how to tell a customer that her perfume makes me wheeze/cough...
Can we just go back to the days when children were left in cars? My mom didn't, but my dad often would when grabbing a few groceries. My sister and I liked just sitting in the car, listening to the radio. Age appropriate of course - old enough to get out for help if it's needed, proper temps, etc.I felt like having a word with a customer wearing very heavy perfume today. Then there was the entitled prat I could cheerfully have killed. Just about finished serving a customer with two vile children (badly behaved, 10-11, mouthy, just yuck). Just as they're leaving, one of them coughs, with a mouthful of Yop, all over two belts. I sigh, get out the sanitizer bottle, quickly sanitize one belt while Dad of idiot children packs up his groceries on other belt; move to sanitize the other belt, a**hole yells, "hey, how about getting started scanning groceries?" I said, "just got to quickly sanitize this other belt". He says, "well, MY groceries aren't going on that belt". I said, "yeah, well, I'm standing in front of those visible droplets on the other belt in the meantime? I don't think that's a very wise idea", very quickly sanitized the other belt, then quickly, and very silently scanned his groceries, silently took his payment, wiped clean the terminal and advised him to have a nice day, with the most crocodilian of smiles.
