That’s why I trust that child, who looks like she’s 12 but she’s 17 and smarter than most adults. I trust the sources she is trusting. If she looked older, more her age, you might not be calling her “the child”, but the “mature minor”. I trust if she sees something is going wrong, she will say so, and I will believe her then too.
Why not use critical thinking skills as she does?

For f***s sake stop it. Just stop it.

Do you you know what else the Bible says - Matthew 7:12 - be kind to others as you would wish they would be kind to you. People are scared. I am scared. Stop smugly telling us that if we just knew Jesus like you knew Jesus then things might be different - that somehow people might not be suffering. If you are a Christian then be kind and compassionate to people who are frightened.

I am sitting in the ICU. My son is on a ventilator. He is critically ill and I do not need to read about bulls**t, scare-mongering theology.
Well said.......

We're scared because we're encountering a "new" form of anxiety. We're told to keep our distance from others -so we turn to social media for information - not opinions and crack-pot conspiracy theories, not smug cruel-not-loving - Christianity.

At this time of deep anxiety I want to feel that Wondercafe2 is a place I can turn to for a sense of solidarity and compassionate community.

I am. I think she’s doing it because the economy needs to be slowed so we need a drastic pivot. But if it becomes dangerous to the public, and other areas of public health she will speak out. I wouldn’t doubt, in light of Trump’s pronouncement, she’s doing some rethinking and reinvestigating.

That's fine, just know most of us, including her are relying on expert information in order to discern the truth or untruths. She's a child to me, a very wise one.....I don't think that being a child is something bad.

But we are going to disagree, and families argue.

I have spent a few years learning to live with the anxiety of a screwed up world and not pretend it isn’t, because that’s not honest. I would recommend people trying to do that. This thread is about a scary subject and we can’t not say how we really feel. Maybe it would be helpful to go to a different, fun one, to feel better.

The only thing I read was that she said social distancing, not mass gathering, was recommended. You have all now made a huge deal because I said I trust her opinion more than the mainstream.

I feel like swearing at you...you have no idea. You are obviously in the centre of your own universe.
That feeling is worth noting. It is not worth expressing. It may be time for you to step back a bit, catch your breath, and reconsider your approach. It may be that you are stuck at the centre of your own perception.

What’s putting a strain on resources is all the calm people telling us not to be afraid, but that they’re just going to shut the whole world down for a wee bit of indefinitely time. Soon it will be stress based illnesses, heart attack, suicide attempts, and a God knows what. Be Afraid of this!
That’s what most of Canada has been trying to do to Alberta for quite some time now. Cheer every time thousands lose their jobs, homes, family. Oil is BAD. Stop producing oil! No way to ship it to market. Good! Kill em all. And then go around heating your homes and buying produce from Chile, and parking your motor homes in Florida. You guys have a lot of catching up to do.

I have chosen to avoid mass gatherings at this time. Greta may think mass gatherings are fine. All the experts like the CDC are warning against them. I don't want to put others at risk nor put myself at risk.

Eye for an eye? Is that your belief system?

Well, anyways, airplanes are grounded, cruise ships are moored, the I5 freeway in California that usually has traffic jams, is quiet, other highways are quieter...and people will realize we don’t need as much oil and gas as we thought. That’s Greta’s angle, I think, to make the pivot to clean energy, that case can be made. She’s going to assess this time to make that case, I think.

If, on the other hand, Trump wages an ugly authoritarian “war on the invisible”...Greta and a lot of people of all ages, even you, will need to reconsider what’s going on. Your president is no hero.

She doesn’t. She said she doesn’t, if you read what I said and the link I posted. So, I was insulted for taking the same measures as you because of who I trust to be telling the truth.

I did not see a link in the post I was responding to below. I misread the comment about mass gatherings.

There was no insult. It's pretty poor manners though to edit your post after someone has responded to what you wrote.
