An opinion. Quebec is generally absolutely determined to be a-religious in its approach; Quebec is equally, "Gaul"-icly, determined to be in the right. It's a lovely, odd, province.
Not so lovely with their pandemic approach though. I hope with the vaccine they are going to at least collect data with their large non controlled experiment.

Quebec and Ontario are, apparently, a bit equally awful in their LTC problem. Both tend to be rather secretive about it, in different ways

LTC Problem ????????????

If you ignore and deny it powerfully ... if will go away ... at least leave your mind. Look at what powerful voices have made people believe in the past ... thus the false enlightenment!

If you don't know will you care?

Thus the danger in being knowledgeable ... it hurts as one becomes responsible for thoughts ... many are just scattered like seed along the way ... path-eh?

Ford has extreme differences in the province.
The pH instructions are based on cases. The challenges is the cases are very different by region and regions cut through cities.
I don't envy the Ontario beauracrats or premier their job.
PH regions are also not equal to school board regions.

I live in an area with quite low rates: so we went orange.
I live within 20 min of a region with higher rates: so it is red.
I live within 45 min of a region with very high rates, they are still grey.
my brother, just a few hours away lives in an area with hardly any, they are green.

You would wish people would use common sense, based on the frequency and hence the regions colour zone, and then the government's job would not be so subject to criticism.

The challenge is we don't.
People are denying the existence, and not wearing mask.
People wear masks in inappropriate manners.
People throw parties with large volumes of folks, or even just a few but putting others at risk (@Kimmio gave us a good example of this)

I get people in areas with low populations and low rates, would like to be in stores, and getting restaurants open.

PH?

We've had different health zones with different restrictions. That's not my criticism with Ford.

I have two specific criticisms of Ford:

i) He is clearly, and sneakily, using this period to push through legislation with little environmental horror stories tucked inside them (loosening Greenbelt restrictions, taking away the power of the Conservation Authorities)

ii) They don't seem to be able to convey "stay in your zone" very well.

I think Ford was doing better during the initial phases - when he also mentioned having daily conversations with Christia Freedland who he seemed to respect immensely. I think perhaps he was getting some good coaching. Since she changed to finance portfolio, I imagine those conversations have stopped, and perhaps shows.

I heard an ID doc speaking last week, and he commented on the need to not just look at gross case numbers, but also to carefully view hospitalization rates & ICU occupancy related to COVID, in relation to those changing case numbers. As those in some of the higher risk groups complete vaccinations, we may possibly see hospitalizations rates change. It will be interesting to see how the variants affect both.

When people were ticketed for walking dogs?

That's what's happening here. A problem with that is hospitalizations are a lagging factor. By the time those increase there are more people who have COVID and are not yet hospitalized and will need to be plus others who don't even have positive tests yet but will show symptoms. Considering who has been vaccinated at this point I think deaths may decrease but hospitalizations to not be decreased much due to vaccination. Hopefully things won't increase much before more vaccinations occur.

I think it was interesting this week that the USA kept the border restrictions up. It had always been Canada imposing restrictions with Trump wanting hem open

but now that they are vaccinating pretty fast, two million a day and we are not doing much of anything , they want to keep us out. Quite a switch around

i suspect that eventually the USA will require Canadians to show vaccination records or a negative test
