Well, this is completely subjective and anecdotal, but there was a HUGE list of deaths today in the Toronto Star. The obits went on for pages and pages. Granted people seem to be writing longer obituaries these days, but even the list of names seemed extraordinarily long.

Are more people dying because they can't get care these days? Because they are not seeking medical care when they need it? Is stress a factor? Who knows?

FWIW it struck me as a lot of deaths.

I did see an article suggesting ER docs are getting worried that people who need to go to ER are not and that might cause a bump in non-covid deaths. Of course, Toronto is the epicenter of COVID in Ontario so that could be a factor there as well.

I saw the modelling presentation by Dr Henry and Mr Dix. It was really interesting. I found it hopeful.

New models for Ontario are due out Monday. We are well below the predictions of the previous models so stay-at-home and related measures seem to be having an effect. We are not as far along as BC though, at least based on the numbers we are seeing.

If we are going to start phasing in services, I am really hoping we see hairdressers back in business soon.

On our last church gathering by Zoom, we were laughing at the various hairstyles. One gentleman has addressed the issue by shaving his head.

One of my daughters tells me many of her generation rely heavily on nail salons. Not a problem I have, personally speaking, but I gather that dealing with acrylic nails as they grow out is tricky.

Going for coffee and chatting with strangers and regulars and sometimes meeting friends for a chat in person, is one of my few "go to" things to do when I'm feeling stressed at home. Right now, everyone is at home, but everyone also has their own agendas and bugaboos, so it's actually kind of tense there, not relaxing. Work is a bit of a reprieve but it's not exactly entirely stress free. I'm stuck in my room with noise during the day and at night I have to tiptoe around in my room to not make the slightest noise (and the harder I try to tiptoe the more likely I am to bump into something it seems)...me thinks the person above me has other issues keeping them awake but I get the brunt of it if he notices any sounds while he's awake.

I do go and ride around and around the neighbourhood. But it's a bit like a fair ride. Going in circles. Gets boring. I haven't been downtown in months. I hope the shops are not all boarded up when we can finally venture down there. And I hope the homeless are not in even more dire crises by then, too.

That sucks Kimmio. I can't imagine being in an apartment right now. I'm glad I'm in a place where I can have those chats at a safe distance.
My landlords bedroom and air vent are connected to mine. All the cooking smells funnel to our end of the house but the suite is not properly ventilated or soundproofed.im not doing anything wrong - they're passing the buck for not having things up to standard in the suite they are charging a lot of money for. Plus, my room mate is not speaking to me because I caught her stashing toilet paper I bought. She got very defensive - but I just told her that I happened to see the extra pack - cheap 4 pack for just in case - I bought wander into her bathroom drawer (you can see it from the cupboard under the sink). Basically, "How dare you accuse me when I have my own, in my room." I told her I don't care about toilet paper, I care about honesty and communication. We have had toilet paper disappearing acts before so I'm not out of line. She hasn't spoken/ texted me in days. I have a roommate I didn't have much choice about, they were so eager to get another renter in...but as landlords they want me to "fight my own battles" with her, so to speak. They want things from me, and a fair chunk of money, but take no responsibility for their part, I feel like.

Wow! I usually read the obits daily, but didn't get through the whole paper this morning. Your post made me curious ... 12 pages - yes 12 full pages of obituaries. I have never seen this many - ever. Most elderly, some mentioning COVID, some in LTC facilities. We had two deaths of people in my church this week - both elderly & expected, not covid related. I can't even imagine what the obituary section in NYC papers must look like.

Cute article in the Chronicle Herald today about the importance of obituaries in times where funerals can’t be held.
Includes funny details about people.

Oh yes, Saturday is always the biggest day for obits in the Toronto Star.

But yesterday's number was noticeably higher than a regular Saturday.

I know someone in the US who died in a car accident this month. No obituary, although there were news articles. I wonder if it's because often times they are also used to give information about services, and many are putting off the big ones for now, so waiting to put it out for when the service will be done. I would be a bit surprised if they will skip it altogether, she was younger than me.

Cost is also a issue. I was stunned when my father died how expensive obits were. Depending on the paper but we put it in three papers. Yikes
