This guy - Kuba Omd was a friend of mine since elementary school, through high school. His sister was a close friend in elementary but she went to a different high school. He changed his name. They both did, actually, since then.I lost track of them, but I just found out that she died last year. Very sad. So, this is a tribute to her and her family.

He has always been talented. The whole family is beautiful and talented. In elementary I remember being at their house, having a little competition over who knew more songs by The Police. Lol! He went on to form a local band - he was the lead, channelling Lenny Kravitz and Jim Morrison - now he does some dance music, too. So, quite a range.

Gotta say...he doesn't seem to be aging or letting it phase him, like me!

Well, if "Hello" announced Adele's return, "When We Were Young" confirms the lady's still got "it". A live performance of another song from her new album (to be titled "25")

And the wonderful Irish singer-songwriter Enya is back with her eighth studio album. I've loved her work since I first encountered her in the late eighties.

Neat little story: Enya still sings in her mother's choir at St. Mary's in Derrybeg, Ireland for Christmas midnight mass.

The album came out Friday. Here's another track. Another lady who's still got it. In spades. I've used her in church services before and it may well happen again.

Listened to the new ELO on Google Play streaming. I like it. Nothing terribly innovative or likely to win them a ton of new fans but should keep old school ELO fans happy.

I have a discovered a "new" singer-songwriter that I quite like. She is Sara Bareilles and has actually been around for a decade or so. I've heard her name here and there but only started listening to her in earnest recently. Terrific voice and a piano style that hearkens back to seventies piano pop greats like Elton John (her cover of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" even blew Elton away) and Billy Joel.

And from her latest, an album of songs she wrote for the musical "The Waitress" which opens on Broadway in the spring:

Variety pointed out in a recent article that "The Waitress" is the first Broadway musical in which the four key non-acting creative roles are all filled by women (director, composer (Sara), playwright, and choreographer).

Oh, and she just turned 36 today. Very impressive lady. Love her music, love her voice, hope she'll be around for a long time to come.

Well, you know you haven't been paying attention when one of your over 65 year old parents plays a Beck album in their car that you're never heard. It happened this weekend. Dad, however, did not hear Beck back in the "Loser" song days. He bought Morning Phase recently after it won a Granmy.
