I'm curious.

Where is the information coming from that this is a new service. Not that it mattes in terms of the sharing of information re the number.

Not saying mental health is unimportant, but I am wondering now which other causes we will take on?

The difference, imo, is that people often come to a spiritual site when in a mental health crisis when they may be more apt to do something untoward to themselves while someone suffering from another ailment may be looking for comfort and support but if they don't find it will move elsewhere without harming themselves.

It was announced on November 28th. I can look up the news release for you. There was no national referral service. Someone working on the file told me on facebook and I looked it up. I also called the number to make sure it worked. I also asked that they do more communication and have asked how I can get promo materials.

I'm curious as to why you doubted it was something new?

It was a real sore spot for me that there was no Canadian national service so I have spent months and months posting the link that lists the local numbers so if you had heard otherwise I would love to hear it so that I can continue to spread the word about this vital service. The text and on-line support had been available in Ontario via the Toronto distress centre (for the entire province) but only from 2pm to 2am.

I get suspicious sometimes of things that are claimed to be 'new' online. Someone will somehow dig up an old post from somewhere, not realizing it's not recent.

Hi justme. I posted the release above

@Justme , in addition, it is surprising , shockin and sad that it didn't exist before.

Glad that it does now

I know, eh? That's why I asked. I am really trying to get information out about the line.

I continue to support Bell Let's Talk but their "help" is often far from the people that folks think its helping. They tend to sponsor big projects. They're a telecommunications company why they couldn't have a routing service in place before now boggles my mind. I also can't believe that they don't have a program for folks who are on disability to get cell and internet service at a reduced cost - isolation is very problematic and the cost of these services represents a huge impediment for people to access them.

I am playing with adding the tab, making sure I know how to do it correctly in the admin portal. Does someone want to draft some introductory text? Doesn't have to be a Council member. I'm taking the information from the post but a line or two of introduction to explain what it is might nice. The post text is maybe a bit too informal and conversational. @Justme ?

Here's what I came up with for the wording. The new tab is done but only visible to Council until we finalize the language.

Wondercafe2.ca is a caring, supportive community. However, we are not monitored 24/7 or staffed by mental health professionals. If you are struggling you can contact someone to talk, text or chat by visiting Canada's Mental Health Crisis Line:

Toll-free: 1-833-456-4566

Text: 45645

Chat: Canada Suicide Prevention Service | Crisis Services Canada and click "Chat With Us" in the middle of the page.

Thanks.

I would take out "for those in distress" .

I would say "is not monitored 24/7 or staffed by mental health professionals"

If you are struggling you can contact some to talk, text or chat by visiting

(Informally we notice that people can believe that theirs is not a "worthy crisis" or aren't ready to call it a crisis)

Sorry it took me so long to reply and another huge thanks for your effort.

Okay, I edited my post above to incorporate your changes. If you're happy, you can just like this post.

Given this, any thoughts on what to title the tab? I've got it as "Mental Health Crisis Line Info" but maybe we should be avoiding that word "crisis" again? Could be shorter, too. It makes for a rather long tab as is.

Mental Health Help Line?

Need more input from others maybe?

Yeah. Changing the tab name is easy so I'm still open to suggestions. It's the text that's a bit of a pain to do (required some HTML hand coding, which I haven't done in years).
