revsdd said, "Then there are the believers who don't need to "demand" signs because they already see the evidence of God all around them in the every day things of life. That's more or less the group I would count myself among." This is where I see myself as well. I don't feel the need for any sign or any proof that the Holy is all around us and that the Spirit lives within us.

Perhaps the world unfolding from our increased knowledge is the miracle and that whatever time we are born in we are amazed.

This is it for me. Nails my thinking perfectly. I am perpetually being stunned and awestruck at what I learn through following various sciences. The Cosmos is, in a way, a miraculous thing whether or not you see God's hand in it.

I don't need to demand signs. Do I look for signs? Absolutely. Am I thankful for when God sends them my way? Of course. The sense that God is active everywhere and in every person's life is ever with me, as is the knowledge that the Spirit of God indwells every Christian believer.

Makes me wonder why Jesus even resorted to doing miracles at all seeing as this could also be a sign of a false Messiah.
The miracles Jesus performed, though, were never for the purpose of proving himself. Generally, they were "miracles" that benefitted others - healings, exorcisms, even water into wine, which saved the host of the party from embarrassment of running out.

I was thought there were many who healed and cast out demons in His day?

There were. The New Testament says that. The issue, I think, was whether they were doing it to draw attention to themselves, or whether their main interest was those who were being healed, etc. That, I think, is a part of the reason for the "Messianic Secret" that's found mostly in Mark, where Jesus will heal someone, and then tell the person who was healed "don't tell anyone I did it." It makes the point that Jesus wasn't seeking glory.

Now part of the Jewish idea of the Messiah included that the Messiah would be human and would not include miracles.......surely Jesus knew human nature and it would be told? 2000 years later we all know that Jesus did indeed create miracles. It does make me wonder if what some call "blind faith" was never intended to mean that we should believe without reality being a sign from God, after all God spoke to all His people in the dessert and offered proof. I just wonder if God ever intended us to commit intellectual bankruptcy in order to have faith?

If ever there was proof of God, it is the existence of cheesecake and pumpkin pie.

Yes, I know she made a typo but I am not passing up an opening like that.

Only if there's whip cream.....now I'm looking for that typo....did I spell bankruptcy wrong?

Great topic revsdd -----

revsdd ------your quote ------The issue, I think, was whether they were doing it to draw attention to themselves, or whether their main interest was those who were being healed, etc. That, I think, is a part of the reason for the "Messianic Secret" that's found mostly in Mark, where Jesus will heal someone, and then tell the person who was healed "don't tell anyone I did it." It makes the point that Jesus wasn't seeking glory.

unsafe says ----and posted scripture ---
I personally don't think that it was about Jesus seeking the glory or not seeking glory for the healing here ------ Jesus came to fulfill all the Laws -----
The scripture here you speak of is Mark 1:43-44 ----I believe there is 2 reasons for this ------I think that this was the first healing of a leper ---He tells the man not to tell anyone but then sends him to tell the Priest for proof that he was deemed clean ---1---which fulfills the law of the lepers ---as seen in the Old Testament in Leviticus---and---2--- He felt that if the man told everyone it would take the focus off His Ministry ------and of course we see in Mark 1Verse 45 the man disobeyed Jesus and told people and Jesus couldn't enter the city -----

Leviticus 14 (NKJV)

The Ritual for Cleansing Healed Lepers

14 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,2 “This shall be the law of the leper for the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought to the priest.3 And the priest shall go out of the camp, and the priest shall examine him; and indeed, if the leprosy is healed in the leper,4 then the priest shall command to take for him who is to be cleansed two living and clean birds, cedar wood, scarlet, and hyssop.

unsafe says and posted scripture ---

I personally think it isn't inappropriate for people to seek signs as long as we seeks with the proper purpose ----which would be to confirm the truthfulness of the Gospel --to bring help to those in need and to remove doubt and other hindrances to peoples Ministries ---and of course to bring Glory to God -----

The healings Jesus did had a purpose -----and scripture answers all the purposes for His Healings and Miracles -------

Healing of the sick were done in my view as part of God's redemptive plan at the time -----and Fulfilled the Prophecy in Isaiah 53 ---and Matthew 12 :15-17 says just that -----that is if you believe the Suffering Servant was Jesus ---which I do ------

Jesus Is God’s Servant ---GWT ------
Many people followed him, and he cured all of them.16 He also ordered them not to tell people who he was.17 So what the prophet Isaiah had said came true:

Greek for salvation --is Sozo --includes healing ------Strong's #4982:sozo (pronounced sode'-zo)
from a primary sos (contraction for obsolete saos, "safe"); to save, i.e. deliver or protect (literally or figuratively):--heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole.

unsafe says and posted scripture
Miracles were preformed in my view to show Jesus had authority to forgive their sins ----to show that He was the Messiah ----and to Glorify God ----

Mark 2 (GW)
Jesus Forgives Sins

8 At once, Jesus knew inwardly what they were thinking. He asked them, “Why do you have these thoughts?9 Is it easier to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, pick up your cot, and walk’?10 I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then he said to the paralyzed man,11 “I’m telling you to get up, pick up your cot, and go home!”

I believe His raising of Lazarus was showing His power over death -----this is just my spiritual view on that ----

John 5:21 (AMP)
21 Just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life[and allows them to live on],even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.

Toddler not hurt after falling from window in Germantown
Paramedics fearing internal injuries placed Jason into a medical helicopter bound for Children's hospital.
Amazingly, he wasn’t hurt.

Neighbors who assumed the worst are now left to marvel at a child's resilience. Jason's dad saying it was a fall to grace.

"I'm so happy - so happy,” says Jason’s father Ayai Gueli. “I just want to be with them."

Apartment management spent part of Friday morning inspecting the window.
Friday afternoon, Jason left for his pediatrician who, like the hospital, gave him a clean bill of health.

"It's a blessing, it's the only way you can describe something like this, a fall from that height with nothing to break the child's fall, it's a blessing," says Montgomery County Fire Dept. Assistance Chief Scott Graham.

"I said, god help me, god help me. Finally god helped me, god helped me."

So, unsafe, what do you say to the parents of the child who didn't survive a fall from a balcony?

Do you say "God doesn't love you?" "God doesn't love your child"? What do you say to "not miracles", prayed for as fervently, and with as much love, as "miracles"?

Why don't you blame God for the non-blessings?

BetteTheRed -------Why don't you blame God for the non-blessings?

God did His Part --BetteTheRed ------What we allow in our lives now is all up to us ----if you have a problem with the Miracles that happen today you will have to talk to God about how you feel ------I am not going to get into discussions about why God does what He does -------God is the only one who can answer that -------

You seem resentful that the boy wasn't hurt ----- Why is that ? ---some children fall from great heights are hurt but aren't killed ----Why didn't they die ?????-----

Boy, 4, hurt but alive after fall from ninth floor in Silver Spring, Maryland
https://usnews.newsvine.com/_news/2012/10/12/14384831-boy-4-hurt-but-alive-after-fall-from-ninth-floor-in-silver-spring-Maryland
Apparently a tree branch was given the reason for breaking the fall ------

Why is it someone can fall from the roof of their house and die while others fall from high story windows and live??????? --------

God knows the answers ------take your concerns up with Him Not me -------

I personally believe God preforms miracles for His purpose -----and that could be to bring truth to the Gospel----to open up blinded minds and hearts ----- increases faith ----to capture unbelievers --to bring Glory to God -----to answer prayers ----like he did when Peter was in prison and the church prayed for him ----these are just my beliefs ----

Acts 12GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
An Angel Frees Peter from Prison

5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was praying very hard to God for him.----the church prayer was answered ----

Do we believe that God's Angels can help us ?????????---

Daniel 10:21 AMP ----- 10:21 But I will tell you what is inscribed in the writing of truth {or} the Book of Truth. There is no one who holds with me {and} strengthens himself against these [hostile spirit forces] except Michael, your prince [national guardian angel].

revsdd says it very well in this blog -------he gives the Pharisees as an example -----they had the signs in front of them but nothing satisfied them --they has closed minds and hearts and therefore were unable to see what was right in front of them and they weren't expecting that there would be anything to see ------and he says this attitude still exists today ------- which I agree with ------

You can believe and feel whatever you like -----that is every persons right ------

You have a great weekend -----:D

Maybe to really know the answer to the question ---"freedom from what?"-------just maybe we need to consider in what respects are we kept in Spiritual bondage -----

Spiritual bondage comes under

The Curse of the Law ----
The Power and grip of our Sin Nature ----
The power and control of Satan over our thought life
The act of sin
The fear of death
The Spirit of fear which has power and control over us

All these keep us in bondage in one way or another -----we are not free while we have any of these listed invading our lives -----

To be really free is to have all the list eliminated and erased from our lives ------

Can we do it on our own power -----Can we really obtain total Spiritual Freedom on our own Power -------I personally say a big fat No ------

Jesus is the only one who can introduce us to a state of Perfect Spiritual Freedom ------

I was inspired a little bit by some discussions going on here, and chose to reflect this week on the nature of Christian freedom - revolving around the question "freedom from what?" and reflecting on Jesus' words in John 8:36: "If the Son comes to make you free, you will really be free."

http://randomfaiththoughts.blogspot.ca/2017/05/a-thought-for-week-of-may-8-2017.html

It is not the first time I have heard the idea expressed that Jesus frees us from "fear" but it is one that I have a fair bit of sympathy with. Freeing us from death and sin frees us from fear of them. Freeing us from the tyranny of the world frees us from fear of the world. And so on.

So Jesus has made freedom available to all who abide in Him -------Freedom from all that the freedom encompasses does not come automatic ---

Freedom from sin and death are automatically in place when receive the Holy Spirit -----

Freedom from the list below is available to us but are not automatically in place ------we have to do the work along with relying on God's Grace to bring total freedom from the bondage that these keep us in

The power and control of Satan over our thought life ----Jesus defeated Satan on the Cross but all Christ---ians can allow Satan access into their lives after being saved -----It is up to us to bind and keep all access to Satan's crafty tricks at bay --That is why God stresses to change the way we think to His way of thinking -----and remain in Him and Satan will Flee and only then will we be completely free fro the works of the Devil ------

The act of sin -----all Christ--ians will still sin after receiving our salvation and it is up to us to rely on God's Grace which has the power to keep us from entering into that sin -----The Great thing with this is God does not charge the sin to us when we do act on it ---we are not seen as sinners but as Saints in God's eyes because He looks at us through the eyes of His Son who was sinless ---so the sins we do act on will not keep us from entering Heaven -----and our only true freedom for acting out sin is calling on the Grace of God every time we want to act on sin----

Jesus defeated sin on the Cross ----so it is no longer an issue ---the issue is receiving the free gift that God Offered to us to get us back into His Family ---He offered up His Son to Cover all sin forever for all people ---so now it is rejecting Jesus that keeps us out of Heaven ---

The Spirit of fear which has power and control over us ----Fear can still grip and hold the Christ--ian in bondage after we are saved -----we have to work to keep the spirit of fear from entering our lives -----God's love is very powerful and we need to abide in this love which will drive out all fear and free us totally of the ties that bind us in that fear --------

Total freedom of all bondage is available to all people ----if we want it we need to ask ---seek and knock and rely on God and all the power He pours out on us to access this total freedom --------

What a Great God we Have ----Total Freedom He has given us -----we are free indeed -----
