"Black Panther" was hyped as the best superhero movie ever. I found it boring, far inferior to "Wonder Woman." I also hated "3 Billboards" which was nominated for Best Picture, though the acting was good, despite the generally horrid script.

The other night we watched "Goodbye Christopher Robin" - feature film. I am a lifelong Winnie the Pooh fan. So it was interesting to learn more about author AA Milne and how he came to write the Pooh books. And immensely sad to learn of the life of the real Christopher Robin after the books achieved fame - a fully unintended consequence of his father writing the books, but mostly the design of his mother, depicted as a socialite fan of celebrity, and later as the subject of endless bullying by boarding school peers. His Nanny was of course a key person in his life - god bless those women who truly looked out for the best interest of their little humans. I realize the movie has likely taken some liberties with the 'true' story, but it seems from what I read to follow it in a decent manner. It was a good evening.

Just got back from watching, "A Quiet Place."

Really well done. Minimal budget. Minimal cast. Not effects heavy.

Only two, thought I, scenes which took away from the whole. If you like a good scare this has got several.

Weirdly, io9 had an article this weekend reporting that the JJ Abrams crew looked at it as a possible Cloverfield Universe movie. Both 10 Cloverfield Lane and Cloverfield Paradox started as non-Cloverfield scripts that were adapted into the universe, so I presume the same would have been done with this one.

From what I've seen review-wise, including your comments, I am glad they didn't.

Non-clover field but goings on in the gorse? Rodin domains where the expression raises curios ... to abstract items!

This is because of censure ... a sin against free expression, speech, etc.?

Thanks for your review, Carolla. I look forward to seeing this movie once it comes to the library.
I am currently re-reading some Pooh stories for the first time as an adult. It's an audio book which is ready by the likes of Judi Dench and Stephen Fry. I keep thinking that it feels like Monty Python for children. Fun!

I can't find the thread for movies we've seen...

I watched "Experimenter" the other night. About controversial psychologist Stanley Milgram's work regarding obedience to authority. It was pretty good. I think it could've been better, less distracting, without some of the "art film" cinematography, but it was a good movie (based on a true story). I'd give it 7/10, just because some of the cinematography didn't enhance, but confused, or distracted, from the story.

Last night we watched "The Women's Balcony" - an Israeli film (English subtitles) that we really enjoyed. About a small synagogue that experiences an unexpected event; a new very orthodox/traditional rabbi; and how the community responds. Great characters, lovely scenery, interesting interactions and story-lines.

Thought of going to see "Rampage." The trailer looked good but apparently it's just a so-so movie.

Kind of goes without saying given it's a videogame adaptation. "So-so" is actually high praise in that genre.

Watched the new Netflix movie called "Come Sunday". True story about Carlton Pearson an evangelical minister who was eventually declared a heretic by his peers in 2004, for his belief in universal reconciliation.
Carlton Pearson - Wikipedia

I found the intention for the movie interesting but was disappointed that it didn't go into more depth......but I hadn't known of this particular preacher before so I did gain some knowledge.

If you're interested you can check out Youtube for an interview with Carlton on Dateline called "To Hell and Back".

Did people declare him heretical ... or a power beyond us ... eternal wisdom? I am struck by people prefer not knowing much, secrecy, and making wisdom sacred ... higher ole gamma ...

Tripp Fuller on the Homebrewed Christianity podcast did an interview with Ira Glass of This American Life, the radio show/podcast whose coverage of the story led to the film. Quite an interesting story. Tripp also does a piece on justifying universalism Biblically to end the show, based on a listener request for help with explaining his universalist position to more conservative family members.

Come Sunday, Hell Will Be Empty with Ira Glass
