Mark always seems so straightforward but the last part of chapter 3 gets baffling.

Jesus returns home and a crowd gathers that is so large the family cannot eat. His family concludes that he is out of his mind.

The experts in the law pronounce that Jesus is is possessed by Beelzebub. Jesus begins speaking in parables. He says that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. Because they said He has an unclean spirit.

Not sure how this relates to the parable.

Jesus declares that whoever does the will of God is his brother or sister or mother. He does not exactly reject his earthly family but he seems to take them for granted.

And now for some biblical trivia. Over 90% of Mark is included in Matthew and about 50% in Luke.

My hard copy concordance states that Mark has only about 24 unique verses.

In today's passage, the family of Jesus going out to restrain him is unique to Mark (3:21).

Ditto for the family being unable to eat due to the crowds. (3:20)

Snoopy might mosey a bit more through Mark this summer. We'll see.

I have abandoned my goal to read the entire Bible in my lifetime. I meant really read it. Discuss it with people. Not just take one of those plans that has you skimming over 3-5 chapters every day.

I have read and engaged with about 21% of the material at this point. I started in 2018. At my age, the math doesn't work if you get my drift. :)

Will stick with what tickles my fancy or calls to me from now on.

AI give you a glimpse of how the 2 are tied together

This makes perfect sense to me ----

In Mark 3, Jesus addresses the scribes and Pharisees who accuse him of casting out demons by the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons. He uses a parable about a divided kingdom to illustrate the absurdity of their claim, which was essentially saying that Satan was working against himself. Immediately after this parable, Jesus warns that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is unforgivable, linking the two by highlighting the seriousness of rejecting the Holy Spirit's work while attributing it to Satan.

My view here
Jesus' family declares Him out of his mind ---they though He needed to be taken care of so they were trying to restrain Him ---and --I think the family was concerned for Jesus' welfare as the crowd was so large He and the Disciples couldn't even eat --and they were concerned He was neglecting his physical needs and putting His Ministry before His the welfare of His own Physical needs to sustain His body ---- --and because of His unconventional behavior they were concerned for the potential consequences that He may bring upon Himself ---as He was teaching differently than the Religious norm -and outside the the bounds of normal society --- He was making waves in what was Normal living ----
